Having been made redundant myself recently after 17 1/2 years with the same company I too have come to the conclusion that employees value service, commitment, dedication and experience far more than employers do. You're just a number on payroll, a disposable resource that can easily be replaced.
My grandad was made redundant from the firm he'd worked at for many years when the firm was taken over, he went to work in the same job just for the new firm 24 hours later, same money plus a nice big redundancy cheque. Another job will turn up, maybe not that quickly but it does happen
