  1. Various TBM's have phoned home in the last few days. Emily, which has just started northwards from OOC has now done the first 70m of her 5500 metre journey. Mary Anne, in the Birmingham suburbs is now at 1844m head towards Brum Cecilia is slowly getting to the end in the Chiltern, just 10m this week with 73 to do out of 16060. There are five TBM's running at the moment, Two more getting ready and one about to finish. Jamie
  2. I'll stick with my old grey Volvo as long as it keeps going. 20 years old this year. It's misty and foggy outside. I got the small mower to start yesterday. When the weed patches dry out that pleasure awaits. This morning a neighbour and I are going to clear a blocked grate in the garden of the house over the road. The owners are in the UK but the grate effects other houses if it's blocked. After that the agenda is clear. Jamie
  3. Not usually a good idea to try and take the Michael out of a drill pig. They have many ways of getting even. Jamie
  4. I thought that the correct response was to ask loudly if anyone nearby knows who the person is as they've forgotten. Jamie
  5. The bounty was introduced at one shilling in 1953, later raised to two shillings but abandoned in 1958 after about 1.500.000 bounties had been paid out. There are estimated to be 2.5 million greys in the UK. Jamie
  6. This model of 1142 was built by my late friend Tony Bond and ran on my Green Ayre layout. It was scratchbuilt in 7mm scale. It's now in the care of his daughter. Jamie
  7. Goo moaning from the Charente. A bit grey but not wet. Supermarket to be visited then to take the mower back to the dealer. It won't start after the winter. As to retirement, the earlier the better as far as I'm concerned. Thoughts with Stewart. You seem to have had a nightmare. Regards to all. Jamie
  8. Aren't the grey ones officially classed as vermin still. I believe that police stations used to pay out bounty if you cut the tail off and took it in. Jamie
  9. We've just watched Death in Paradise. The Inspectors ex tried to woo him by bringing Eccles Cakes. It didn't work. It would have worked with me. Jamie
  10. Beth's 6 Yr OLD clio is mainly digital. The handbook, in French tells us how to change from Kph to mph. After many failed attempts by both of us we took it to a dealer in the UK. They also failed. It appears that the feature is in the handbook but not in the software in the car. We now use a post it note when in the UK for info on sped limits. Offbouncing around on the Briney I believe. Jamie
  11. The lime wagons are an Interesting case as in service they usually carried coal in one direction and lime products in the other, then went to a colliery for their return load. Delaneys ended up owned by ICI but not until the early 50's I think. My main interest is to see if there are any more photos of Beadman wagons. Obviously as the LMS PO wagon books haven't been studied it's difficult to know. From reading one of Turton's articles in the HMRS journal, they are split between Kew for the early ones and the NRM at York. As to architectural style I can recognise the houses and stations built by the Little North Western. One house still exists. My own researches centered on bridge styles and certainly again the Little North Western had a distinctive style using a semi elliptical arch. Jamie
  12. I'm interested in the fleets owned by PW Spencers and Settle Limes in particular. Settle Limes had I herited the fleets of Delaneys, Craven Lime Company and Ribblesdale Lime Co when they amalgamated in the 1930's though the actual ownershimay have remained with the original company. There would also have been the, ocal coal Merchants such as Laycock of Skipton. F there was one volume that covered these areas it would be worth my while buying a copy. I read through the descriptions of the volumes on the publishers website and PO wagons seemed to feature in several volumes. Thanks Jamie
  13. Having seen the mention of a new volume in the series about the acquired wagons of BR. Can anyone point me to whichever volume would cover the quarry owned wagons on the S and C please. Jamie
  14. Didn't the Strawbs do a song about that. Jamie
  15. The algorithm on Youtube popped this one up. I found it quite interesting as it actually showed precast viaduct segments being moved around. Jamie
  16. Good moaning from the Charente. It may have rained in the night but I haven't looked outside yet. We had a very pleasant afternoon learning how to play Belote with some friends. A good game. Not sure what will be done today but probably will discover things to do. No 1 son is back in the wilhe video called his mum at lunchtime. Jamie
  17. SNCF coaching stock was the same. Jamie
  18. I'm not sure if this has been posted anywhere before but this video about some of the design decisions that produced the OHLE Series 1 equipment used on the GWML is quite interesting. Jamie
  19. It's a while since I read Puckoon but my forgettery (©Chrisf) gives the info that there good count had taken up, resident in Ulster and had recreated the family khazi. This and his demise on it took up three pages. As to praks with petrol, my late Uncle Alan as a newly qualified doctor was an RAF MO in Eastern India inn1944 and had to treat several aircrew for burned nether regions. The loos were flushed by a stream that ran under the row and so eone filled an empty Fray Bentos pie tin with petrol and floated it down the stream. Jamie
  20. It's even worse when La Poste imposes illegal customs charges on such small parcels. I have to get things sent to whichever friends or children are due to visit next. Jamie
  21. Bri gs to mind the story of Count Fritz von Krappehauser in Spike Milligan Puckoon. The family motto was Abort in Luxus. Jamie
  22. Good moaning from a sunny Charente. Beth has received a card from no 1daughter, a text from No 2 son and zilch from No 1 son. Disinheritance is being suggested. However we will be off to the market in due course then this afternoon card games with friends. Jamie
  23. They have obviously bought the production faculty that used to churn out old ladies in hats and coats. 4 or 5 were issued to each Methodist chapel in the 60's. The obviously use new mouds these days. Jamie
  24. I've got the terrible job of eating a rather large carrot cake that a friend gave me for doing a little job.. I need some now as I've just finished a railway themed jigsaw and it featured green kettles with copper caps. Jamie
  25. As France is tied to the same time zone as Germany for economic reasons we have similar problems despite liviing less than a degree West of the Greenwich Meridian. In mid summer it's still light at 11pm and we never get really light mornings. Jamie
