@DaveFThere are some excellent French ones. One set is by Aiguillage, which means points. He puts subtitles on in English. There is also a set that do the Tours to Hendaye line by someone else who I can't remember. Jamie

More likely it's some French cheese. I also step on the scales every day because I like playing with numbers and always have. However I don:t obsess about the numbers but can notice trends. Eg. I came back from our last trip to the UK about 1.5 kgs heavier than when we set off. That:s now gone. I've duly downloaded the images above. I've also just got this from Bryan Gray who is modelling Little Salkeld. He was sent this drawing of a PO side. The wagon was a Charles Roberts one from 1911 Midland reg No 65728. I'm sure that I've seen drawings like this before but have no idea of the provenance. Has anybody got any ideas. Jamie

The Charles Roberts order books at the NRM have been mentioned rather a lot. They are an absolute treasure trove of information and we all owe a debt of gratitude to the late Bill Hudson who rescued them when they were being taken to the incinerator. Certainly I was steam hauled from Calais to Amiens in 1967. Two 14R's which impressed this 14 Yr old. I have a vague memory that steam finished in either 69 or 70. One of the last great strongholds was Marseille to Ventimiglia (Vintmille) where it lasted till it was electrified at 25 Kv Jamie

Yes we had the rifled slugs for use in shotguns that could do that. Merseyside used a similar shaped shotgun round containing CS, called a ferret. The only time it was used in the Toxteth riots in 81 the gas was pretty innefective but the casing removed one testicle from one of the rioters. Jamie

Nasty things are rings in incidents. I once had to transport a deglovrd fi ger from an incident scene to the hospital. The owner was climbing out of a stadium and slipped and his ring caught on the top of the fence. For some obscure reason a policewoman refused to do that job. Jamie

And if you bring the speed down you will need more expensive trains. More drivers and crews and larger and more expensive depots plus possibly bigger stations with more platforms. Jamie

I've seen those routing instructions on several wagons, usually in small script. Yes the initial journey was usually to a colliery to be loaded however once the order book is seen it should become clear. I suspect that in this case the permanent routing instructions will be in the livery section of the page and delivery instructions on another part. I've got two photos that show pages from the books and will post them later. Jamie

The numbers aren't a problem. The routing nstructions would be in smalscripusually at thetlright on the bottom plank. It's no problem produce all the numbers and all the routing instructions on the same sheet as the main side. We just need the full information from the order book. The Midland register gives us the internal dimensions so the external ones can be reliably guessed at. Now casomeone tel this ignoramus what washer plates are please. Jamie

I generally wake at least once a night to, pump the bilges ©NHN, if it's before 06.00 I can usually get back to sleep. I do have quite vivid dreams in that shorter sleep period. For some peculiar reason I was at Schloss ID in a huge room with a mezzanine and boarded wooden ceiling. I can't remember who I was with. As to getting g money from grants, there was once a series of grants for urban improvement on a estate that a prominent councillor represented. I submitted a bid for a policing project using a team of 4 PC's and a Sergeant. I even selected the officers, most of whom had family connections to the estate. I went along to the meeting where we were questioned about our bids. Most of the other bids were aski g for money for health, youth projects etc. The ones I heard all wanted money for a 6 month scoping study. This would obviously have been done from their office. I was asked how soon I could start. I replied, how about 06.00 the day after tomorrow, I just need to tell the officers that their shifts have been changed. Rather surprisingly I got all the money I asked for. Jamie

Good moaning from a rather cool Charente,where the grass is crispy this morning. It has certainly got cooler over the last couple of days. We got to Niort yesterday, then had lunch on the way back. Beth was dropped off at the hairdressers and her field who was also going dropped her at her French class. I had a quiet afternoon catching up with various things. I discovered that the first TBM on the 10 mile long Chiltern tunnel had officially broken through to complete it's drive. It seems that the machine has been paused for at least a fortnight so that a Government minister could attend the ceremony. How much did that pause cost taxpayers. Shopping to do this morning then wood to Barrow down and cables to sort out. Ttfn. Jamie
