Any good bod in IT should now be able to knock up code to assess every ticket station pair sold, any route, train and put all this on a navigable /clickable sankey diagram that works instantly in a tool like Superset… as today style of search is fairly common.

I like to think I'm a good bod in IT, but I would have no idea how to do that. Not all IT people are data analysts/programmers

However I can see that this is only easy to do for tickets for a designated train. But many/most tickets aren't.

VOIP customers are advised to have either a UPS or a mobile phone as backup.  The UPS they offer (as an extra) is rated for four hours, after that, you're on your own.  And if its a more than severely local power cut, either the other end of the fibre will be affected too or the local cell towers will be out.

Then there's the places with little or no cell coverage in the first place...

To be fair, if the other end of the fibre is down due to power issues, then chances are a traditional exchange would be down too

Whilst not Deltics I always thought it odd that Aldaniti got a Class 86 named after it, yet arguably the most famous racehorse ever, Red Rum, didn't!

It did get a Merseyrail 507 EMU a few years later, but that's hardly in the same league.

Would Red Rum be named Mur Der on the other side?

  4. I was tempted to suggest H0 as the answer to the question "00 too big and N too small?"...

I greatly enjoyed operating the layout and it did settle down to run nicely once Andy had lifted the entire sector plate with stock on it off (twice) to make adjustments. I'll admit my heart was in my mouth while he did it!

Perhaps the layout needs a sharing bowl of Hershey's kisses out front...

Perhaps if you want to disenfranchise the elderly the way to go is voting by an app downloaded to your phone, with dual authentication etc. Would disenfranchise me!

I don'tget  why its always the elderly who are quoted as being unable to use smartphones. They've been around at least 20 years , so the elderly have had far longer to get their heads round them than my 12 year old son. And he's also had to learn how to eat solid food, crawl, walk, talk and read in that time.

  6. Chesterfield supports not only a GW shop, but also an independant shop that does a bit of figures/gaming and also as a venue for RPGs. My son fequesnt the indie shop mainly, they gave us some good tips on buying a 3D printer recently.

It probably suits DRSs plans to get the 68’s back..

    1. Its one less passenger contract

    2. they can “green up” by kicking out 37’s

    3. fleet standardisation.

its the mk5’s that become the issue.. they join 379’s, Voyagers, 769’s in having no work.

i’d imagine they would be a very saleable asset overseas, many countries will not pass up a bargain like these, and loco haulage is quite the norm outside Britain.

tbh I could image voyagers also being very saleable outside the UK too, especially Uganda or Nigeria both of which are planning standard gauge renovations and recently saw “big” Chinese money dissappear and need low cost solutions, and offer political influence

Why would DRS not wan tpassenger contracts? In theory they are nice steady long term income stream?

Getting rid of 37 means that they can't provide loco's with the 37 RA. Maybe there's not enough need for that for them to be worth keeping, but if so they could have got rid of them before.

I'm sure I've read that DRS only have long leases (from Beacon?) on some of the 68s, if so in theory they could hand some surplus ones back

Everywhere. I was on an LNER service to York this morning, arriving at 09:30- formerly just about the peak time for long-distance business journeys for people attending meetings. I had the whole carriage to myself. The trains are busier at the weekends now, and LNER is increasingly being operated like a budget airline alternative for tourists. They've even started doing engineering works during the working week.

On many lines weekends are now busier than weekdays, so doing engineering weekdays is the lesser of two evils

New third track is in place now together with the new crossings into the fiddleyard.

Unlike previously, all six new crossings are 'Frog Juicer' controlled.

All those diamonds and they are hidden!

I like the concept of this layout, and the way it has several different scenic sections

  10. There's nothing intrinsicly not finescale about using wood, after all for a wooden bodied coach its actually more accurate than plastic or brass.

The late Joe Rowe very fine grained veneer for the body panels of his Gresly coaches. These were both fine modelling and fine engineering. Unfortunatly photo seem to be a bit lacking on the web.

@Tony Wright mentions here that he took some, perhaps he could be persuaded to dig them out and post them.
