Nice beer crate! What a mouth-watering project this is… I'm really looking forward to seeing it all come together, Ron.

Thanks for that Steve - and sorry for the highjack MD ...
No worries, it's useful info and I'm soaking it all in!

This layout is coming along nicely Chris. Glad to see that you've muted the blue on the down cast shaft head gear – a much more fetching shade… a bit like Manchester City sky blue!

Has anything further been done to this? Ive only just found the thread, having located it via google. Excellent modelling!
I have a Hornby body to play with somewhere down the project list, Im yet to decide whether to get the Brassmasters detailing kit as it will have a Brassmasters tender and Comet chassis which bypass a fair few bits.
Hi Pete, thanks for asking… I've been hibernating!
When it was confirmed that the correct tender for 44890 was part-welded, I was going to attempt the necessary mods but as the spring dampers are the short versions, I chickened-out, deciding it required too much faffing. So, the tender in this thread will now be designated to a Comet-modified Hornby 8F (more of that in due course). For 44890, I bought a Comet part-welded tender kit only just recently, so it looks like this thread still has some time to run… hopefully starting again in a week or so!
As for your Hornby body, no doubt you'll know that Comet sells individual add-on bits, whereas I don't think that Brassmasters does, although the latter will always come in handy for spare parts. Will you be starting a thread on your work? It sounds a bit more involved than the stuff I'm doing and I'd be very interested to follow that.

It's Sunday and some locos are having a day off.
I could wander round this location all day… superb as usual Michael.

…YES the cans are full and unopened, and NO I didn’t empty them immediately after taking the picture…
Commendable restraint as well as great modelling!

This is Donnington all 4ft.of it.All pictures are taken in daylight in the back yard.unfortunaly the shadow of the house comes over at midday,so itall has to be done AM on a clear calm day.all pix were taken on film, print and slides over the last 8years or so and scanned last year when i treated my self to a scanner.Ive recently purchased a decent digital camera ,so im looking forward to spring/summer to have a playabout.
Small but perfectly formed… and photographed! I think the print and slide film complements the model's era and adds to the realism.

gonzo, Arpster revealed his dad's fantastic Blackgill layout last year, now it's your turn…I'm sure I'm not alone in wanting to see much, much more of Donnington! Looks naturally lit, too… brilliant!
-
I used Tillig turnouts combined with C&L flexi on my layout, as recommended by Number 6 on his Southerham project. Although I haven't used the track in anger yet, I certainly didn't find the turnouts to be troublesome whilst laying them… flexible, yes, but not fragile.
Not a good pic of work in progress but gives you some idea of how it looked while it was being laid and ballasted.
-
Awe-inspiring! And CAD looks a very useful modelling tool indeed! This magnificent structure alone is worth a whole Model Railway Journal feature. Are you modelling a specific period?
-
Nice to explore more of the gorgeous Blackgill so thanks for the pics, Arp. Am I right in assuming that the layout is finished and that your dad is simply adding to the stock and playing trains? It certainly looks complete, in which case, are there any plans to exhibit it in the future?

my first ever post,go easy on me.2xLima 40s at donnington my home for vintage heavy metal
I hope you're going to start a thread for this layout, it seems very promising from this shot… and those diesels look the business!

Hi
Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez has withdrawn his transfer request after talks with the club.
Can't help feeling that this is a temporary state of affairs and that Tevez will still scoot in the summer. There have been too many 'reasons' for his wanting to leave the club and the words of his agent, Joorabchian just haven't appeared genuine to me (isn't that the case with them all?). As Red Devil pointed out, Tevez's club history speaks for itself… a couple of seasons and he's off! I'm just intrigued to read what the final official line will be on this one!
Tevez really is a great worker but there are more efficient, deadlier finishers around and I think Mancini would be wise to buy one now… Wolfburg's Edin Dzeko, for instance. Balotelli certainly cannot be relied upon at this stage of his career.

Continuing the 'no trains theme' I posted this on my layout thread recently. I pic I have been meaning to do for a while and given a kick up the backside by Dave's (Waverly West) pics on the last page...
Cheers
Jim
Whoah… that is seriously serious! There's nothing here that says model!

This one made me sit up and realise the importance of chairs to the appearance of track!
Shame this pic is so small, I like it… and I'm very interested in that mill, do you have a layout or workbench thread?

C&P from a Utd forum,
Boca
Tevez forces his way out of the club claiming that the press intrusion in Argentina is too much for him and his family and the club aren't doing enough to support him. Public bust up with manager also ensues.
Claims he loves the club and supporters, and always will.
Time at club - 2 1/2 seasons.

Corinthians
Tevez forces his way out of the club, going on strike, after arguments - some physical - with teammates, the head coach and the club president.
Claims he loves the club and supporters, and always will.
Time at club - 1 season.
__________________________________________________ _______________________________
West Ham
Tevez almost immediately falls out with the manager and players. Storms off and threatens to go on strike after being substituted. Goes AWOL to Argentina at one point.
Strings the club along before swiftly ditching them - but it's alright because it was for us.
Claims he loves the club and supporters, and always will.
Time at club - 1 season.
__________________________________________________ _______________________________
Manchester United
Tevez complains of being fatigued and overplayed in his first season. In his second, he complains of being underplayed - drama queening it every time he's taken off - managing just 5 goals, despite playing more minutes than the league's third top scorer Fernando Torres.
Parting shot of 'I'll scream in Ferguson's face when I score against them'
Claims he loves the club and supporters, and always will.
Time at club - 2 seasons.
__________________________________________________ _______________________________
Manchester City
Tevez is tired, homesick, wants to retire, takes time off to see his daughter and is caught on camera spending that time banging his mistress (the actual banging remains unphotographed), feels there's too much greed in football despite being the highest paid player in Britain, hates football in general yet throws a wobbly every time he's taken off, wants his old life back, hates the club executives, claims that he would like to punch his young teammates and finally hands in a transfer request.
Claims he loves the club and supporters, and always will.
Time at club - 1 1/2 seasons - the 1/2 a season grudgingly, against his will.
Anyone see a theme developing?
Anyway, big rumours of a whip round to replace the infamous Tevez poster that city put up in M/cr
Yes, when Tevez joined Man City I looked into his 'history' – or should that be histrionics? – and assumed that the inevitable would happen sooner or later. So I can't say that I'm surprised… as one of the of City supporters of the great Bell/Summerbee/Lee generation, it's never gone swimmingly well for long since those heady days, as the red side of Manchester is only too willing to remind us at every opportunity… as if we need to be!
I just want this Tevez saga to be resolved as quickly and painlessly for all parties as possible. The squad is starting to gel and I'm confident that the team will not suffer too much without him. I'm really hoping that Super sulk Mario Balotelli doesn't follow suit (and that he leaves his handbag at home on match days). Then, perhaps there's a chance that the notorious banner at Old Trafford will have to be removed before too much longer.
… and now I read that Blackburn's Big Sam has been sacked!!! What's going on?
-
Oh dear having to modify brand new models is really not on, thats one crossed off my list, Really poor show Hornby.
Personally, it's a hugely enjoyable part of modelling and when the end result is still cheaper than a kit (which I'd probably make a right old hash of anyway), it makes perfect economic sense too.
-
Anyway, saves England the embarrassment of being the host nation that's knocked out in the warm-ups.
At least that would have guaranteed qualification… now what's the betting that England don't even make the 2018 World Cup?
-
Wibble, I don't know why I haven't spotted this super layout before. I can't add any useful historical information but having lived around Crouch End and Finsbury Park for a few years, your layout has a familiar feel to it. It's now on my watch list and looking forward to seeing more.

If you haven't voted in the NRM competition, then you may like to do so now here. Many thanks.
Michael, how did you do this? It looks like a combination of natural light and the shed lighting. This is a wonderful shot!

Hiya MD,
Going on the pair of photos of this loco on Fotopic, it's a part-welded one, which will cause you a little bit of bother (if you're *really* wanting to get this one right that is!). You'll be wanting the later style of tender spring hangers for a start, plus losing some of the rivet lines. I've done a trio of these and it can be done without damaging the paintwork/lining. Worth my getting a photo of either of mine?
Out of interest, what livery is this one going to have? Plain black in 1966-8 or fully lined out? If the former, it can be done......
Cheers,
Tim
Hi Tim, thanks for the info… so my work is far from finished! I'm keeping mine lined, circa 1963 and yes please, by all means post your pics, no need to ask.
-
Mucky
Are you now going to put a welded tender behind her or are you going to use modellers licence and stick with the rivetted ?
Pete
Hi Pete, I'm re-numbering this loco 44890 which, from the (not very good) photos, looks like it has a riveted – or at least a part-riveted tender.

Ron, looking at all this wonderfully intricate lattice work fully assembled, I can't help being curious about how you're going to paint it with all those nooks and crannies. Have you done any trials yet?
