  1. Just watched Senna...wow....

  2. Lucky! A room with a view! It might be worth signing up to some of the local Yahoo gen groups' date=' WiltshireAvonGen, SWRG and 60gen. I try to post here too when I see a new one turn up in Wales, indeed 60065 has just arrived at Margam Certainly no quieter than a "normal" 60 when it passed me yesterday, though no match for 71 or 91 in the noise ratings. Here's 60007 passing Little Somerford with 6B33 Theale - Margam Thursday (20th) saw 60039 work 6V18 Hither Green - Whatley empty Hanson hoppers. After a dull afternoon, with the train running about 75 mins late, the weak sun put in an appearance, low in the sky jo
  3. Well its been a while since the last update. Not much has moved on really, but I've had some fun with the camera, and finally got round to painting the fuel pumps. Please excuse the gaps under them, they're not glued down yet, that'll be done post weathering. 08946 drags 43136 out for a fill up after it's exam Proof that progress continues, the transfers are on the 153, just a couple of small details then reassembly beckons 60074 arrives for fuel having arrived in the south west for crew refreshing I've also had a play with some image stacking software. As the evening begins to draw in, 43136 is sent back indoors for final testing to take place. Some permanent way work around the yard has taken place, and DB have sent a train down to collect the remains afterwards. It looks like 60054 will be leading 6W31 back to Westbury, I managed to grab these couple of shots before the light gave in completely! I hope they work as well for others as the do for me, it was good fun having a play around with the camera jo
  4. Looks pretty thorough to me...... http://www.flickr.com/photos/37260/6237890364/sizes/l/in/photostream/ Most of what you can see on the underframe is simply the battery box btw, the fuel tank is mostly between them jo
  5. 60007 on 6B33 Theale - Robeston, 6-10-11, at Ram Hill, approaching Bristol Parkway. As can be seen, it was a bit touch and go with the clouds! jo
  6. Cheers Alex, its nice and easy to do, too. Just park up in some houses and walk about 100 metres along a footpath! Not like some of these locations that are half an hour's trudge across a field. 6B13 was originally part of our plan too.... Read on wnxx forum that 60054 is fuelled and ready for some testing. Seems the time spent working out what goes where with 007 was worthwhile. Hope it all goes well and is in red soon jo
  7. Nice work on the tram there Paul, inspired me to fire up Photoshop again One I've been meaning to do for a while after Superned's request, Arriva Cross Country livery on a class 67 jo
  8. Here's the current power provider on 6B33 Theale - Robeston, 60071. 2nd loudest 60 I've ever heard! 60091 not quite knocked from its perch. We could certainly hear it coming earlier this afternoon at Chipping Sodbury jo

    Dapol HST

A quick post to illustrate the prototype, what is they say about a picture saying a million words.... As already mentioned further up, the front end sees both markers (LED) lit along with one main headlight Day: Night: The tail lights use the same light position as the marker LEDs. I wonder if two LEDs feeding a single light guide might work here rather than a bi colour LED? This setup applies to all FGW, East Coast, Grand Central, Cross Country and Network Rail refurbished power cars. East Midlands are the only people to use a different (3 position) setup jo
  10. Hi Guy, Here's the current state of play. Chassis and one side shortened. It needs the top angle adding, then I'll start on the 2nd side. I think I'll do the cut out in the bodyside after I shorten side 2, less fiddly when it comes to filling! The edges of the recess look a bit wobbly, but I think its mainly the lighting catching it and exagerating build up of filler, plastic dust etc. Nothing a file can't sort, anyway! I need to buy some plastic strip to tidy up the solebar too Comparison with the HHA. They are both tight up to the right hand end, so the left end of the wagons shows the length variation. The other parts don't line up due to the camera angle This angle shows the shorted hopper bays. The bays weren't too bad, but the doors were a nightmare! Everything between the outer bay and the headstock is unaltered I only plan on doing a single IIA, as the bodyside rebate is a nightmare! I picked up a pair of cheap GBRf IIAs at Leamington, so the EWS wagons be next once this one is done, along with a Tiphook KPA kit also picked up there jo
  11. Well, would you look at that, looks like someone managed to snap 6C99 ADJ-St Blazey the day it suffered a hot box and the silver bullet was dumped in the sidings behind Embankment Road. Here it is arriving behind 60054 preparing to shunt the train jo
  12. Here we go then, 60007 on 6B33 Theale - Robeston at Pilning A couple of weeks ago tug 15 was on the same working, just down the road at the end of the loop jo
  13. Hi guys, Pete, yes it's a Farish one, the same one I've been doing for the last year or so. To compare my stuff with the Dapol one a friend bought at Leamington was interesting... I'd been umming and arring whether to do an "economy blue" 150 for a while, and a combination of Stu's thread and a Bachmann bargain was enough! It'll add some variety, too Vac_basher, going by my calculations I was 4 when the last one was withdrawn, and Intercity 125s were the only train I knew. Good old Intercity swallow livery, a pity the 50s didn't get it, still NSE looked good on them. I have some signage to go onto the depot building, and I suppose I could always make it removable to make another era easily modellable....hmmmm. Cheers Trev, just the Bachmann jacks, cunningly placed though ;-) Yes, a pair of 60s have appeared, will have to see if the driver snapped them lol jo
  14. The recent thread activity has reminded me I took some snaps of the layout the other day, testing it as a photo backdrop. A few new purchases, and a few familiar friends, though with many new transfers A few pics of 08947, 43136 and some mk3s first, A 150 bought at TINGS to "do a Lapford34102" on, though I'll be doing it slightly differently, Stu's method certainly provided lots of food for thought I managed to pick up a cheap Teddy Bear at TINGS too, I'd wanted one for a while, but couldn't really justify one, but for £30 on the Bachmann stand couldn't really say no! Finally, a steamy visitor to the depot, boiling over gently before tomorrow's railtour jo
  15. 60007 currently at Theale ready to work 6B33 to Robeston later...will this sunshine hold out? jo
  16. Hi guys, thanks for the comments Fully strip a Regional Railways 150, then respray from the yellow upwards. Railmatch post 2003 (or whatever year the most recent is) yellow, then mask and do the pink doors (Precision First Magenta), mask them too the do the dark blue (Precision First Blue) then spray the fade with Tamiya sky blue. Roof is DB Schenker grey (Railmatch). Then the transfers designed here http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/blog/658/entry-5629-test-transfer-of-the-south-wests-tourist-attractions-not-sure-where-to-though/ go on with plenty of Johnson's Klear. Cheers, I must admit the technique was pinched from someone doing it in 4mm. I really wasn't sure, and once he explained it it seemed so obvious! Good ta, I'll admit there is a warp, but that's down to me not reinforcing it enough during intial construction. It hasn't shifted since. Nice and light too. Yes, yes, cue the jokes about it being so light that the energy from a camera flash is enough to blow it away... I can't work out the obsession you guys have with this log based era Mind you, Intercity Swallow and NSE is rather tempting lol. Might have to get a preserved 50 if someone does a decent one, just to test the water of course. I don't think the gen got round quick enough to the local enthusiasts to be able to get a picture, but an 0Z60 move did happen with 60054 and 60074 arriving for fuel...I wonder if the driver snapped it? jo
  17. With 60033 having roughly half the engine hours of the ones that are getting sidelined, perhaps a repair is becoming cost effective on this "low mileage" machine? jo
  18. Nice one Trev, Water Orton is one of those places I've wanted to visit for a while Here's the same train a wee while earlier, just west of Cam & Dursley near Gossington Looks like the weather followed it north! I wonder if any other members snapped 6E41 yesterday? jo
  19. Cheers Ben, It's progressing surprisingly qucikly, if it continues at this pace then it could well be in primer by Leamington. It'll be with me for sure, whatever state it's in. Yes, the Tiphook KPA was crying out to be included, think I'll have to swing by the NGS stand for a purchase. Nice weathering on them too! There's a few trains around London that use these wagons, some Mendip based (Whatley - St Pancras or Hayes generally) and some Acton ones too. jo
  20. Thanks Simon, I'm looking forward to seeing more Gresby progress I hadn't realised the NGS did one - good value too looking at the website. Think I'll have to pick one up at Leamington... jo
  21. 60049 came and went from South Wales twice last week I believe. 60096 has been solid on the Murco tanks, and 60049 is the only other EWS 60 to have been in Wales lately. It's now been stored at Toton, leaving 096 on it's own at Margam. 60007 should be just about done now, hopefully it'll head this way! HTH jo
  22. I've decided to have a play with a thread rather than a blog for a bit. I always liked the old work bench threads, let's see if this gives me the kick up the backside to keep projects moving forward Previous work was on the blog here: http://www.rmweb.co....60-ewsjos-blog/ Anyway, last week I had an idea. Whether it's a good idea or not, I don't know... Recent deliveries of stone hoppers have more than a passing resemblance to the current designs of coal hoppers. I have a few hoppers that I picked up cheaply, so didn't mind hacking them about. I've got a nice set of RMC hoppers, which I felt could do with a bit of variety. All this sounded rather worryingly like a plan... Right, so first up here's a piccy from Flickr with the kind of mix I'm looking to achieve. http://www.flickr.co...in/photostream/ A set of RMCs, with a couple of EWS wagons thrown in, plus a lovely KPA. Towards the back are a Cemex blue and grey IIA as well as a Cemex and an EWS HOA. Add in the fact this train can occaisionally produce a 60 and we're onto a winner! I'm going to start with an IIA hopper, this looking more involved than the HOAs. These wagons were ordered by EWS for their contract with Cemex, orginally operating off Peak Forest with the HOAs, displacing the RMC JGA hoppers, but as shown on the link above have migrated elsewhere, too. A batch of identical wagons went to Nacco and VTG for lease to Mendip Rail, which due to living where I do, I have many more pictures of, so will be using these to illustrate at times. The wagons were built by Wagony Swidnica, part of Greenbrier, in Poland, the same people who did Freightliner's HHA coal hoppers. Looking at the side and end profiles, there's clearly a family resemblance, and that's where the idea begain. Here's a quick bit of Photoshop work to highlight the work involved, with a Mendip Rail liveried IIA to compare with. Modelling those "breadloaf" buffers could be interesting... So, from the top down: Everything above the red line is cut away, this will be replaced with a 6mm wide piece of plasticard as the IIA has this as a single plane, as opposed to the two on the HHA 5.5mm up on the flat bodyside needs to be a horizontal groove. I have made this 1mm deep, with the remainder of the original bodyside above this at just under 1.5mm. On the prototype it is at a 45 degree angle, but on the model I have simply represented it by putting some flat plasticard behind the gap Top shows the unmodified side, bottom has the top angle cut off and the groove added. Looking back it may have been easier to file this groove in... The dimensions show the IIA is much shorter than the HHA, most of this is lost by loosing one hopper bay, but additonally each bay needs shortening by 3mm. Here's current state of play, showing the inner moulding having lost a hopper bay, but still needing each remaining bay shortening This final image shows the difference in length between an HHA and a JGA stone hopper. The IIA should be slightly longer than the JGA if I'm remembering rightly I'm keeping my eyes open for some cheap IIA/HYA (Fastline/GBRf) coal hoppers to do some HOAs once this one is done More soon! jo
  23. Lovely stuff Simon, I've been following the thread silently for a while. Who makes the Lowmac kit? I could do with one for Baby Laira jo
  24. Nice catch Andy. That looks like a DB Schenker container/swapbody on a privately owned lorry. DB Schenker (and the older Schenker logistics livery, link here: http://www.gapgroup.com/content/images/schenker.jpg) trucks are quite common visitors to the UK, and they must have a UK base too as I've seen some UK registered ones. Some pics here, http://publications.2evolv.co.uk/?userpath=00000082/00008126/00058282/ from the DB Schenker site HTH jo
