Nice work Eddie,
This is the only building I need to build on my WHL layout and their's a gaping 2ft space of platform area awaiting me to pluck the courage up to start.
I plan to build the one based on Ian Futer's plans, of Ardlui from Railway Modeler i think, but the windows have been the one thing holding me back.
I know what you mean about the shingles, my plan was to do them as plain plasticard as in 4mm scale, i feel it would be something only noticed under close scrutiny. Let us know if you have any luck with etching the windows and doors, something I'd be interested in.

Glad to see you've got over your recent lows and worked on that board joint, I'm sure seeing Mark putting those curved boards together has helped inspire you.
Look forward to further updates on Highclere, your work has been very inspirational to many of us

Just been catching up on your blog and must say, looking really nice there Andy.
You start to forget how small your modelling in, then the shot with pin vice and tweezers, brings it back to reality. Love the 3/4 shot of it parked in the sidings, giving me some inspiration to get my layout finished this Summer.
Cheers

Headcode boxes were fitted a couple of inches lower, but It probably wouldn't even be noticeable in 2mm
Will drop you a pm.

Something to be careful of If doing D6323, It had both cabs rebuilt after collision damage, the headcode boxes sat a little lower and put everything else slightly out of position to the rest of the batch.
Shouldn't be a problem and an excellent choice.

Good to see this back Bryn.
Once over the hurdle with that 3 way and I'm sure things will start to progress rather nicely
-
It's looking well! I must try out a frost grille on the next test etch.
Bernard,
I'd be very interested to hear on progress, if you go forward with this.

Thank you for all your replies, to many to answer individualy so I'll try to reply as one.
I would of liked to of been able to make it to expo with the layout, but in the end the timelime I set my self was just not enough. Apart from plenty of work to still do on the scenic section, I still need to build fiddle yards and legs for the layout, I could of presented the scenic board on a table, as this is working and just do some shunting, but I have little stock fitted with coupling and I still need to fit the magnets. So it would of ended up been a case of trial and error over the two days.
Anyhow looking at the list of superb layouts attending, don't we think we'll be more than spoilt over the weekend , I for one am really looking forward to expo and although a bit shy, will hopefully get the chance to talk to some of you over the weekend.
The time spent modelling on the layout has been a bit erratic at times, especially when I was making the buildings, I didn't quite realise how many little buildings it would take to fill 4ft of backscene and must admit, it was becoming rather tiresome making a building and it would only fill a couple of inches at a time. I usually get two or three evening each week where I try to get 2-3 hours modelling done, but on most Saturdays I'm lucky to be able to spend the whole day modelling and I find this is when I get my best work done, with the radio or sport news going on in the background .
Thankyou for the comments on the weathering, I try to get eveything a bit different, but for it all to blend as one, if that makes sense, ie. grime! As to the wagons this is probably my most enjoyable part in modelling and as anything I highly recommend working from a photo, it's suprising how quickly you get to understand the weathering effects this way.
Getting back to the layout it has possibly worked out well for myself, as I have always had this image in my head of what would of been at the other end of the station. So now I have no restrictions on size it could just possibly happen, I only say possibly.
Again thankyou all and hopefully see some of you at the weekend.
Cheers

Proper Job!
Please can we see some close ups of the 37s
tfn
Jon
Thanks Jon,
I do plan to post a few more close up shots, not sure if I have any of the cl37s but if I have i'll post something.
The cl37s still have quite a bit of work to be done on them, they will look more like the wagons behind them when I finish . In total their are four cl37s for the layout being the signature loco, these two are 6885 & 6886.

I don't know what it is (apart from good modelling) but there is something atmospheric about those photos.
I've been planning a small 2mm project since I joined the 2mm Society last year but my OO project has got in the way.
Cheers
Martin
Thank you Martin,
I still have a long way to go and I think it'll be a lot more groty by the time I finish, hopefully it'll look something like the image I've had in my head.
I have the same problem of working in different scales, I've just returned to EM at the moment, but I've really enjoyed the last few months working in 2mm and the resources and support from the 2mm association along with other fellow 2nmm modellers has been excelent.
Cheers

Looking forward to the pictures, the more the better. If you're not at the showcase this weekend, I'll see you at Expo.
Just about to post some images up.
I don't think I'll be making DEMU for the second year running which is a shame, but funds won't allow both shows so i'll probably catch up at Expo.
Cheers

Trevor,
Sorry for the late reply, but I have to echo the comments made above. It really does look the business, the levels and depth work really well in this scale and the colours are spot on. Thumbs up all round Mr Hale
Thank you Bryn,
Much apreciated
This weekend I have been refitting all the wheels back onto their locos and putting everything away, so at least I'll have an idea of where it all is when I want to carry on, If the weather is ok on Tuesday I'm hoping to get a few better pictures outside with some stock on the layout. So you may see a few more pictures during the week.
Catch you soon

Hi Trevor
I really want to add to the praise about the layout. That has really sprung from nowhere and as the others have said it looks amazing. It has echos of Wansbeck Road to it and I love all that urban grot. Its a shame its being packed away for now and I really hope it comes back oneday.
Missy
Thanks Missy
When I posted the photos and looked at the last one, I too thought Wansbeck Road!! although very inspirational , hopefully this was all was my own idea's, although both would be similair with coal traffic been their signature trains.
I'm sure there be more to report on the layout later in the year, but after a few continuous weeks on the layout, it's a nice relief to have a break

Thanks bcnPete, iak & 2mm Andy.
The past 5 or 6 months of modelling 2mm have been really enjoyable if not frustating, adapting to a smaller scale at times.
I think the back of the layout has been broken now and the more enjoyable part is to come, which will show the more fruitful results in its progress.
I still have a long way to go though with stock to be built or finished, along with a couple of fiddle yards to be built. So hopefully a few more progress reports will appear later in the year.
I will be at Expo as a punter and looking forward to meeting people and seeing some excellent looking layouts. I didn't really understand on what you had to do for the Expo, so I got a little disjointed and lapsed a bit over the last couple of months, which was probably good for both me and the layout.

Excellent work Missy, you can't beat using wood when representing um! wood
Something beyond me but that lazer etching looks to be a very useful tool.

Hello Trevor
Its nice to see some progress, please keep the posts comming.
I like the buildings, they all look nice and square and well put together. I do have a question on the provender shed though, what shape are the plinths its sitting on? It just looks a bit weird from that photo.
Missy
Hi Missy,
The uprights are hexagonal rod as that is the nearest I could find, although it should be eight sided not six, but since doing then I have found a way around getting them more correct.
When nearly finishing the building I realised the panels on the ends are all 6" to narrow, making the building 4mm too narrow

Hi Missy,
Every time I look at your thread, you seem to raise the bar and amaze me with your exquisite work.
This is certainly a layout I look forward to seeing in July, hopefully you'll have found the keys by then .

Thanks lads,
Glad the write up was all worth it, when reading it back for the first time I thought i'd gone OTT, but if it helps others take the plunge then it was worth the extra work.
I certainly cannot complain about the kit, it must be a good kit because I didn't burn my fingers once and I certainly will be ordering some more to add to the collection.
Is it just me or is this 2mm stuff addictive
Trevor.

Very efocative Andy and nice to see you now have a signature loco for Keyhaven.
Always enjoy looking at this layout!
-
Thanks Bryn,
I know someone who will find that very useful , nice breakdown.
It probably says in the instructions, but is their a set distance on how far the coupling should stick out from the wagon, I see on yours the the buffing plate is a slightly proud of the buffers. I suppose it also depends on how tight a radius you have on the layout, on how close a coupling you can get away with.
Cheers

Hmmm Tasty!!!
How does the easitrac stuff go together?
It would be nice to hear the views of another new 2mmFS person
Hi,
I must say I suprised myself how easy it was, after only working in larger scales before, mainly C&L or copperclad, I thought the 2mm would beat me, just because of it's sheer size, but must admit I found it a real pleasure to work with.
The rail slid onto the wooden sleepering with ease, without the aid of the jig to make the flexitrack, I think if building concrete track the jig would probably be required due to the size of the chairs.
I found the points were no more difficult than making a C&L point in EM and actualy with using the 2mm association crossing jigs It was probably easier

Hi Trevor - thanks for this.
I embarrassed myself as am currently viewing the forum through an iphone so the viewing panel is restricted, meaning I found your layout topic thread later last night which had all the answers to my questions posed!
Thanks to reply anyway and really pleased you have started 2mmFS.
Looking forward to see this at the EXPO!
Pete
No probs Pete,
It is a bit strange running a normal thread and a blog alongside each other, but it does give the chance for people to Interact in the layout thread, whilst the blog can be broken down to showing just the progess, for those who don't want to scroll through lots of pages, I do say Andy Y has got this right.
Looking at peoples work on their layouts I'm very much looking forward to Expo, some excellent work indeed
Cheers

The layout will be at Stafford on the 6th and 7th of February, which normally is a good show and a bit easier to view layouts than Warley
Thanks for that Bryn, Stafford it is then, much more enjoyable than Warley

Remember doing a couple of these myself in 4mm, after following Jim;s article. So can imagine completing one in 2mm must be really satisfying, excellent work.
