Hopefully not long now till the arrival of the Palbricks, wonder if the stanchion issue has been sorted.

Still it’s an easy enough job to repaint them …………

Easy enough for the manufacturer to get them right as well!

    Mick,

I called them using the number on the site - Alan(?) was super friendly and helpful, once payment was sent (bank transfer) the goods were received very quickly.

I looked at the Alumina conversions @26power as an option, and I'd dearly have liked to include them, but given their limited number, limited operational area, and the extent to which it would have meant increasing the tooling to accommodate them, it became increasingly unviable unfortunately. A shame, as they are quite funky wagons....

Thanks for the comments and explanation.  I did say that they are pretty niche!

  5. Possibly potential for a further variation, for the LNER bulk alumina conversions?  Or for someone to produce add on parts?

Given the references to the Slaters kit for one of the planned versions I assume one is the right type as the basis for these conversions, given Slaters do a 7mm kit for the alumina hopper and that is a variation on its NER wooden hopper kit.  See:

Tongue in cheek comment really, but the first thing I thought off!  Ideal for West Highland line based layouts (and perhaps also some central Scotland based ones) for some time frames.

When searching for a link to the Slaters model there didn’t immediately seem to be much information about them online.  There was though one suggestion that there were 20 conversions.  If so pretty niche!  No doubt there is information in books that I don’t immediately have to hand.   Or have.

    SNIPPED

    NEWS.. Kind of....

There are currently no news updates on the NER/LNER CCT's but they are reaching the top of the list, in between all the other projects and NEW products we are currently working on.

We are currently working on tooling for a new 4mm standard gauge wagon and will be the next release from us all going well. Followed by another 009 kit. We have a large list of possible new kits in various scales and gauges.

Mr Finelines himself, is currently working on various projects for his own model railway and is trying out new technologies, which could enter service within Chivers Finelines itself.

    All the best,

    Matt Chivers

Great to hear news of a new 4mm standard gauge wagon kit!  Any hints as to what it is?!

Is parking at the Dewars Centre still free/unrestricted?  I seem to recall there was some issue about charges being introduced the last time you had an exhibition but that they were not applied for your exhibition?  I might have misremembered though!

Answering my own question, it seems that there are now charges.

    Up to 4hrs is 50p.

    Up to 6hrs is £6.

    Up to 12hrs is £12.

Hope this helps, especially if you are going for the day/most of the day!

The railway strike has come at an inconvenient time for sure. This is the second time in recent years that a strike has affected our show. Anyway, a reminder that park and ride facilities are available both Saturday and Sunday at Broxden, Perth from where a bus route will take you in to a stop near to the Dewars Centre. Parking at Broxden is free.

  9. Sorry to hear of your decision.  I echo the comments of others thanking you for your posts and inspiration and look forward to your return to posting somewhere!

Perhaps posting your images on Flickr would help increase the likelihood of images being retained, or give flexibility for where you post, in a future iteration?  Having said that the predecessor of Flickr which seemed to be the main choice for posting photographs of real trains (can’t remember the site’s name)  also disappeared!

Your work is what I would like to see in the model railway magazines.

Will there be an opportunity to see your wagons etc. in the flesh, so to speak, on a layout at exhibitions?

Thanks for the replies. As I say, not a steam person so maybe a stupid question. Photos of 5305 and 5407 seem to have a dome and something in front of them (top feed?) but all the Hornby LMS liveried Black 5’s only seem to have a dome.

Is this because the feed was a post LMS addition and therefore an ‘old livery’ on a later modified loco? Or just that I can’t find a suitable LMS Hornby model?

For some reason I seem to be favouring an LMS liveried loco but may have to revisit my thoughts if the right body is not available.

In no way am I an expert on Black Fives but I don’t think what you are referring to as a “feed” was a post LMS addition.

As andytrains indicated, 44767 was unique.  I think it’s naming is also a post preservation thing? The valve gear in particular being different from the normal type, as modelled by Hornby.  Therefore probably not easily created from a Hornby “base” model.  I do though seem to recall it’s a variation that Hornby have said they will cover with their new Black Five model.

I wonder if anywhere there is a catalogue or tabulation of all the Black Five models Hornby have done to date?  I understand they tooled up various options for boiler layout/fittings and also tenders, welded or riveted, but have no idea where you can source what variations they have produced.

Perhaps you would need to post on the Hornby sub-forum to find more detailed information or more informed responses to this, as there would be a greater likelihood of your query being seen by more people on there than in this sub-forum.

    Hope this helps!
