  1. The carriage shown in the photo was the one built for F.W. Webb chief mechanical engineer. John
  2. I think the old dodge was to paint a white undercoat and then the red John
  3. Jol, You are correct in this inasmuch as people are not taking to it......looking at it a fair few threads have had no activity for months. John
  4. [quote name="Penlan" post="3243659"- They still have their own Forum within the Society to discuss matters. They do indeed still have a forum but in a way it sums up the 'elderley' society inasmuch the the membership is say 600+ only 181 are registered on it. Topics are infrequent and if you reply to one the reply disappears to be 'vetted' before it appears on the site about 24hrs later......hardly ideal John
  5. That is very true the problem with the LNWRS is that the majority of the membership is of a certain age and thus things like computers and Facebook goes over their heads. Hopefully the modelling competition and the Facebook page will bring in younger members to the Society....if not I fear the worst...... John
  6. Jol Way back in the '90's I was on the committee as Modelling Officer, all articles had to be put in the Newsletter not the Journal as,being told by other committee members the Society is NOT a modelling society. As some of these people are still on the Committee I rejoice at them at last seeing the light. John
  7. If you do decide to put the condenser pipes on they exit the tank fronts where the innermost 4 rivets are.....position will be obvious from photos. This being the case then the covers on the tank tops will have to be moved inline with the pipes. John
  8. Mike, Just a thought but are you fitting the condensing pipes twixt tanks and smoke box? I feel I feel not the standing cover on the tank tops are not required. As said I thought I'd mention it before it got near a painter John
  9. As Monty Python would say.....'is this a 5 minute announcement of the full half hour?' Getting coat John
  10. He does one for the four coupled Ramsbottom tank but not the larger one for the 2-4-0T John
  11. That's brilliant Mike...just the right amount of sublety John
  12. Mike There's a quite well known photo taken at New Street Brum ,could be in Talbot's books, showing the front end of a 2-4-2 tank on a train which had the same style door as 2-4-0. HTH John
  13. I can only apologise for this but I think you'll find that the smokebox door is not totally flat. It's the same as can be found on Ramsbottoms engines and early Webb ones eg coal engines/tanks that had lift up doors. The lower half of the door is 'rounded' out slightly almost a bulge, the only totally flat ones were fitted to the 0-4-0 saddletanks. John
  14. Advert for Daddies Sauce....in Brum???....surely HP ?.....unless I'm wrong and they were both made in the same place. I'm getting me coat! John
  15. Haven't yet done anything with the sandbox holes but this is it so far. i.e. a steam braked engine John
  16. May well do the steam braked version , a basic shunter just to be a bit different Would recommend LMS Loco profile no.14 on the 3F tanks as there are a lot of detail differences e.g. the bunker sides on the Vulcan and Horwich built engines.. John
  17. Might (will) need some extra work doing as 47606 was one of the 100 engines built with steam brakes only, thus the vacuum ejector and pipes will have to be removed. John
  18. Thanks for this bit of info Jeff , will have to fire the lathe up for a replacement John
  19. As said my 3F arrived this morning , ticks all the boxes except it's chimney. Will have to do something about the rather prominent join and it appears to have a chimney cap which I don't think the originals had being a one piece casting. Jonn
  20. Fox transfers do a sheet of numbering and power classifications but it's a tad expensive just for one set of 3F's as you have a lot left over John
  21. Oh that one...........soree! John
  22. Those wooden steps fireproof Pete? John.....Got coat!
  23. Caledonian Railway blue livery surely the 3F already comes in LNW livery i.e black John
  24. But once the filler lid had been removed by BR it left a ....hole......in fact two holes one in the tank side and one in the footplate where the neck of the filler had poked through. If that bit of plastic (?) With the square hole in it can be removed then it's bang on prototype
