  1. Sorry for the lack of updates on the layout/scenic board.

I've sort of lost my modelling mojo again on the layout building side of things and I'm currently on holiday up on the Cambrian coast in Harlech.

I'm considering moving the scenic board on as a potential project that would need 2 fiddleyard boards to make a small exhibition layout.

And perhaps start a micro-diesel depot/wagon repair themed layout as I've taken more interest in weathering and detailing stock now I'm getting to grips with airbrush.

Once I return home at the end of this week I'll try and post a pic or two of the scenic board in it's current state which to be honest is about 70%scenic complete.

    Cheers

  2. Anyway trying to get back on topic are there any bargains out there other than that place that shall not be mentioned in Birmingham?

I won't be adding anymore updates regarding bargains  from that place that shall not be mentioned in Birmingham in future as it only stirs the Hornets nest everytime then we all throw our toys out of the pram because you don't want to  come to that place that shall not be mentioned in Birmingham for a bargain.

    Cheers

  3. A new loco to the fleet 37035 waiting the road from the holding siding.

I've been after one of these 37's in Dutch livery for a long time so in way of celebration I've also fitted Loksound V4 decoder with legomanbiffo 37/0 sounds.

Plus I've started to apply all the small detail on the scenic board of the layout.

    Cheers

The top of the cab roofs on 33's were always filthy - almost black - maybe it's worth hitting it from the front? It looks great but I think a panel line wash of a medium-dark grey (darker than the blue) would really set it off. For the cab ends, they got faded quite quickly so maybe a bit of white and then the same dark wash?

Thanks for the tip I'll give that a go probably next week when I should  have a bit more time after work.

  5. Thank you for the kind comments I've now toned down the 3rd rail and weathered yet more rolling stock seen as I had the airbrush out.

The 33 just needed a bit more muck on the roof and the 419 and GUV are straight from scratch by toning them both down on the roof and underframes and a quick pass on the bodysides.

    That's all for today.

  6. Well not much work on the layout apart from weathering the track as I've had an airbrush for the last 5yrs or so I decided to finally give it a go and see what all the fuss is about. The two pics I've added are my first ever attempts at weathering with an airbrush.

Hope they're upto a decent standard.

    Cheers

Well seen as I'm back to work on Wednesday I thought I'd try some weathering with my airbrush that I've had for nearly 5yrs and never used so the photo of the 33 above is my very first attempt at weathering by airbrush.

What do you all think for my effort ?

The ballast is now dry and to be honest it's not the best but im hoping to weather the track similar to what I did on Ashbridge.

Also I'm thinking of removing the lower quadrant signal and replacing with a SR/BR upper quadrant and adding some 3rd rail.

    Cheers

  8. Jeez was it really November since my last update well a lot has been going on since then unfortunately I had another suicide jumper at the beginning of December and I lost all interest in railways to be honest.

Christmas time was a difficult with what happened at work. Then all of a sudden the modelling mojo was back and with time off I've done a bit of work on the the layout.

Hopefully I can get the ballasting done tomorrow.

  9. I'm after a couple of 100 ohm speakers for a couple of older Loksound V3.5 sound decoders ideally they should be able to fit inside a Bachmann class 25 and class 37.

    Many thanks

  10. Please continue posting the pictures as the pics around the Chester area bring back so many memories from when I lived in Chester in the early 80's I've not commented because of my inferior knowledge as I was but a young boy back in the 80's but this is what gave me my interest in Railways.

This thread is like a time machine for me so please continue.

    All the best

  11. Hi Colin,

I've got one that ran very roughly at first and I improved things by tweaking the PWM settings in the decoder (although it still sounds s bit rough).

    See: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/92852-hattons-announce-14xx-48xx-58xx/page-102&do=findComment&comment=3359370

These models seem to have multiple overlapping problems and manufacturing variability so it may or may not help but it's an easy change so may be worth a try.

Many thanks for your advice I've tried the settings for the gaugemaster chip and its like a completely different loco it runs a dream now especially at slow speed. Although still a little noisy but once I've applied some lube to the gears that'll make it run better still.

    Many thanks again

    Colin

  12. Well I've finally given in an bought one of the hattons 14xx the heavy weathered BR versions.

I also opted for a hattons 6pin decoder at the same time and to be honest im seriously considering sending it straight back as the running quality well if you can call it that is absolutely shocking.

It moved about a scale 6ft and stopped then it did the same intermittently along the length of the layout in both directions.

I first of all I changed the decoder for a gaugemaster 6pin decoder and the running slightly improved but not much.

But worst of all the sound from the gears within the chassis is horrid it sounds rough and noisy.

Does anybody have any remedies to fix these problems as it's such a shame as for me the detail is half decent and the weathering is how I'd like it.

    Cheers

A main view of the scenic board.

A favourite of mine 37427 with legomanbiffo 37 V4 sound decoder with the West Highland sounds. The bufferbeam detailing is almost complete on this end just the ETH socket to fit.

    post-7076-0-91763600-1543244868_thumb.jpg

Another favourite a detailed Bachmann 25 with lazerglaze glazing fitted and bufferbeam again almost completed.

    Thats all for today

    Cheers

Only had chance to upload this pic as I'm home alone with my daughter this weekend.

I've started building a small control panel thats fixed to the back of the scenic board.

I've cleaned the train and done a quick test run.

I won't be able to work on the new layout now until Monday and I'm unable to go to Warley as dragging my 4yr old around isn't fair on the layout operators and the backpack brigade.

    Cheers

  15. Well today before work I managed to wire in a DCC concepts digital point motor and wire up the frog and managed to get the motor to work correctly first time.

I've made a start on the small platform/halt on the branchline by cutting all the plasricard formers to brace up the platform itself.

Hopefully tomorrow time permitting before work I can spray the track colour pretty much the same as I did on Ashbridge.

Also time permitting I will try and upload a pic or two of the stock for the layout and the layout itself.

    Cheers

    Colin
