I just got it cos it looked nice ................ 😉

£62 quid in Basingstoke MZ - those were the days .................

Might try scribing the door lines and adding some plasticard hinges - modelling !

    32-326Z.jpg

as for the underframe - looks pretty unvalenced in this 1970 view at St Pancras

That's because it's D5218, which being numbered above D5176 never did have a valance. D5072 was a class 24/1 and was built at least with a full valance.

My main experience was of the 27s being thrashed on the l/h Edinburgh-Dundee trains which started in 1981 (previously DMUs were used).

4 coaches of Mk1/2z stock usually TSO/BSO but sometimes with SK/BSK.

Very occasionally, a cl.26 could appear but ISTR they weren't suited and could self-ignite!

Cl.47s became more common in later years before the trains were replaced by cl.150/2 Sprinters in 1987(?).

Yes, I spent many an hour linesiding in Dysart in summer '82, moving a relative into a house that backed onto the ECML. Then in the years '84 - '87 I covered some of the action during holidays and on one occasion a university field-trip to Edinburgh!

I had plenty of 27s as they were in the clear majority, a few 47s including my antepenultimate one for sight, xb HA 47018, rescuing an errant 27055 (that I cleared the class with for sight) on a Cardenden - Waverley service. 37169 I think, in summer '84 deputising for a missing Type 2, a Peak of some description and a pair of Class 20s. Wonderful days, the sun always shone, and the odd illicit pint in Glasgow was very welcome too before an overnight leap to Stirling and beyond!

.... So I built the kurwa colliery; this one's a keeper!

Now Johnster, you do know you must rename your colliery as Corfa  Colliery (yes, I have fully checked both pronunciation AND translation as you can see!). The backstory is exquisite and a really black humoured tribute. And what with coal being black....

But writing 'here here' instead of 'hear hear' when saying don't be anal about minutiae is not ironic. It'd only have been ironic if he'd been being anal about minutiae, or spelling. Something being unfortunate does not make it ironic.

  5. There are a few people on here who either a) don't really understand how media works or b) are deliberately being pedantic for some unknowable purpose.

A video caption/ strap-line, title or whatever is designed to attract a potential viewer's attention. That's all. It is a sales tool. Not an offer to treat or a contractually binding gentleman's agreement.

When the invasion of Afghanistan kicked off, the Scottish Sun led with the awesomely witty and punning 'Irn Fist.' I'm not going to explain the etymology for the hapless amongst us, except to point out that neither a soft drink made by Barrs, or a mis-spelt Motörhead album from 1982 were being described.

    Get. Over. It.

These are excellent, thanks for the leg-work. D187 and D358 are fine transition diesels too, both fabulous Lothians workhorses.

  7. There are two gaps in my loco fleet, namely D260-66 and D7602-08.

These 14 diesels aren't going to make that much difference to their balance sheet when I get round to the purchase, but I will be able to add them to the roster with confidence (and consistency).

I've already sated my desire for Class 37 and 47 with earlier tooling, and more than two dozen Peaks would just be greed.

  8. Euston Downside was dedicated to NPCCS. It's not especially modellable mind you.

The following had allocations of NPCCS and some had dedicated areas for their maintenance and repair.

    Bounds Green

    Cambridge

    Bristol Marsh Junction

    Bristol Pylle Hill

    Edinburgh Craigentinny

    Old Oak Common

    Heaton

    Cardiff Canton

So no place for bling on your rails then ?

LOL! It pains me to say that I struggle massively with Rule One. I have to keep quiet about it for fear of causing offence.

When I hear it being invoked, I feel like the actors in Black Adder, when the actual name of 'the Scottish Play' is mentioned!

  10. Frankly the appearance of this version is not at all to my taste, being a bit of a straight-edge Death Steam kind of guy.

It's impossible to tell through all that gaudiness how the poor thing would look caked in grot and as though it's at one with the Cumbrian landscape.

But for @'CHARD 's benefit, you should consider:

EDINBURGH, BALLAST SIDINGS, PORTOBELLO: 993775, 776

Others were allocated to Rutherglen, Cowlairs, Perth, Irvine, Inverness, Carstairs, Forfar, Aberdeen.

That's fantastic, thank you so much!

Those will be my pair then, by a very simple process of deduction!

Interesting to see Forfar with an allocation, for the Strathmore route and itself lost without trace.
