Anyone go to, or watch (I think it was on Sky) the England Under 21 game last night?
We were there for the Charter Standard club presentation - never seen such ridiculously harsh refereeing for a friendly. Both Austrian sending offs were harsh, and me and my brother did our bit for international relations by telling the Austrian coaching staff (we were sitting right next to their dugout!) that they were somewhat unlucky to concede four and the ref ruined a good game. Unsuprisingly, they agreed!
England played well though - Shelvey, Sterling and Wickham in particular. Bodes well for the future!

If I could get even half of the atmosphere from this on my current Light Railway project, I'd be delighted. Superb.
-
Like this a lot - you're right though, the wall around the gasworks siding does make a big difference
The Brewery/Maltings is going to look fantastic when complete!

The mighty Stringers won 4-0 today, with a thumping win over Ringmer - who were third. Now up to 15th after our terrible start, so not bad at all.
Also, a mate put this on Facebook. Whitehawk v Lewes today, at the dump, sorry, 'The Enclosed Ground'.
I've been to some dodgy places, but never seen a stand that looks quite as dangerous as this in the modern era!
(Also, before anyone pulls the 'poor Non League club, dont be harsh' card, this lot spent £100,000 on players wages to win the Sussex County League a couple of years ago....!)

Oh, and Scotland have sacked Craig Levein. My application goes in tomorrow

I see there's (yet) another rugby good, football bad article on the BBC Website today; http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/rugby-union/20207113
Odd choice of days to release it though when you read Brian Moore's column in the Telegraph! - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/rugbyunion/club/9654856/Rugby-must-cut-out-the-backchat-before-it-is-too-late-or-criticisms-of-referees-could-lead-to-insubordination.html

What I'd also add is that my model does not like the cheapo Hornby decoder I bought for it, so it is out of service until I can either get another chip or find a DC controller for the lounge plank - worth bearing in mind if anyone is wondering what chip to put in!

Are you going to weather it ? I intend to weather mine but I would like to see a few examples of what others have done.
At some point. Worth noting that it is the first time I've ever painted anything other than a building or wagon kit - I used the Chris Nevard guide to detailing the Sentinel which was featured in MR sometime last year, but left the handrails the same as they were originally.

Not quite plain but certainly minimalist: http://www.modelrail...tive_number_281
There's not a lot to be done to the Irish GSR version to make it plain.
HTH
David
Indeed, I wanted the same, so bought the Irish one, and sprayed it black. Painted the bufferbeams by hand (and yes I know there is a tad of red on the chassis in this pic, it's gone now!)
Dead simple job.

I've been looking on ebay for some of the old Hornby 'train set, household brand' style wagons for our (mine and the boy) new project - Jif Lemon, Red Arrows, 7-Up etc. As part of my search, I came across this.
Judging by the price of this, and the amount of bidders, I can only assume Hornby sold about 12 of these and sealed the rest, Atari ET-style, in a landfill site....!

Just to add my twopennyworth, and much the same as others, I found this incredibly inspiring.
Also, a tip for others - Wickes have a permanent 'buy one, get one free' on tester pots of emulsion. Very useful for 'cheap modelling' of all kinds - you can use it as base cover, primer... - at only £1.35 for two, it's a bargain.

Just heard that Ledley King has had to retire. True legend at White Hart Lane, if his knees had been better he would have been the best centre half in England IMO. And he had that rare talent...Loyalty.
As far as I'm concerned he was the best centre back in England of his generation. Magnificent reader of the game, strong in the tackle and a real rallying point for the rest of the side. Great shame he's had to retire.

If you are missing your football fix, may I suggest http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/player/bbc_radio_shropshire
TNS v Helsingborgs in the Champions League 2nd Round Qualifyer First Leg.
0-0 HT.

One thing to note if you are feeling pedantic is that the last coach before the DBSO was the smoking carriage for standard class (until roughly 18 months before the smoking ban, at least) - so remove any non-smoking decals on the windows/doors!

The season countdown can begin - the FA Cup & Vase draws are out today \o/
Hailsham host Greenwich Borough (Ian Wright's first club!) in the Extra Preliminary Round. I do know who we'd face after that, but seeing as we haven't won an EP Round game for 5 years now, I'm not even going to mention it.
Arundel at home in the Vase. Winable.

I can't find a picture, but I see it every day and every day I think it looks just like a model...
On the East Coastway line, heading out of Glynde towards Lewes, if you look out of the window before you get to the Beddingham bridge, there is low-lying land near the river Ouse. Most of it is very green and very short grass - but there are then loads of clumps, which look just like randomly applied clumps of Silflor. Sometimes there are cows too which just enhances the effect further.

Wow, that's stunning - reminiscent of many a daily commute!

Let me know if you want exact dimensions - I've got several of the indicator boards for lines in Sussex and Surrey sitting in the loft.
Bought them at Collectors Corner, years ago (I was about 8, I remember wanting a Mk1 Carriage door that they had, but there was no way we would have got it home on the tube and train, according to my auntie who took me!).

At least this one's not purple.

Certainly looks good Gordon - for what it's worth, I've used a mix of Celotex and Chicken Wire on Horsebridge
I carved the Celotex, with care, through the 'grain' of it to produce an uneven piece with lumps and bumps, then blended it with Modroc into the chicken wire which forms the riverbank.

I'm a sucker for anything with lots of gesticulating valvegear', like this USA tank. I've just picked up a rumour that one was loaned to the South Polden Light Railway on the Somerset Levels for a few months in the early 1960s......
Absolutley correct - it was a trial prior to moving to the Hellingly Hospital railway, where, despite a 50-year age gap, it went very nicely with their secondhand ex-GWR 4 wheel coaches on the visitors trains and also did sterling work on the coal duties....

Nice to see this one back, Tim. Nice letter in RM too.

That is some lovely work, with real attention to detail. Superb!

Looks superb. TBH, in Connex days they (and everything else) was often that filthy you couldn't see where the fadeout started anyway...!
