Just seen this mentioned on Facebook. The link I saw had the timing of departure from St Leonards at 11.20 (https://live.rail-record.co.uk/train.php/?c=K03630&d=2023-02-09&fbclid=IwAR05zWpA8MxoGD9_oY9g8VRfRZTxAOWTm0VMv5KLzGJv1E7SGq2Twcq_djY ) , but the gen you have posted makes more sense with the light move first and only 73109 on site at St Leonards at present.

In two years, it will be 2025. As an aside, I will be 41 years old...
Now I've stopped crying, I will resume my point 😉
Wikipedia informs me that the first recorded layout was built in 1859 for the son of Napoleon III. It also says that one of the first scenic layouts was the Madder Valley layout built by John Ahern. We could no doubt argue forever and a day about who truly was first, which is not the point here.
What is certain, is that in 1925 A.R. Walkley exhibited his 'portable goods yard', bringing the 'inglenook' to popular attention - and also 'proving' it was possible to have a small (6' x 1') layout with small British locomotives.
It therefore follows that this particular anniversary is in 2 years time - 2025.
Now, Mr Walkley's layout was certainly 'scenic' - you can see a picture on https://www.carendt.com/small-layout-scrapbook/page-61a-may-2007/ , for example.
I wondered if anyone was aware that there were any plans to celebrate this particular anniversary?
Layout of the Century poll?
Another layout competition?...- 3

That picture reminds me of those "spot the ball" competitions that used to proliferate years ago. (It's not the white dot above the wicketkeeper - still only red balls used in club matches then.
Judging by the position of the bowler's delivery stride, somewhere invisible behind the nearest fielder!

I wonder if anyone has managed to bounce a ball off the catenary?
No catenary down here, but at an away game I have seen a ball end up in the 6 foot at Wick (near Littlehampton, Southern Combination Division One). There is a big fence, but we had some rather 'agricultural' players that season...
In the Division above (SCFL Premier), the Brighton main line runs past Hassocks. Track is in a cutting, so you don't see much, but you certainly hear it.

Steam to Eastbourne today, with 44871 on 1Z71.
9 minute late departure from Hastings on the way back on the way back (1Z73), as much as +18 at Tonbridge, but obviously a decent run as was only 5 minutes late into Victoria.
Obligatory phot through the fence at Eastbourne from me following a late lunch break!

Not wishing to dampen your enthusiasm, but isn't a grain of rice about the size of a rugby ball in 4mm?
I do recall that there's a model of a robin atop a spade handle in one of Pendon's gardens though, so it can be done -
Cous Cous?

And how will people be aware of the existence of Hornby TT? Via publicity by Hornby. Which will presumably direct them to the Hornby website.
Yep.
And then they'll do what everyone else who buys anything online does, stick it into Google (or Amazon!) to try and find a cheaper supplier - when they'll find out about all the other manufacturers goodies. Or, they'll go to a model shop, not unreasonably thinking that Hornby will be sold there, and be shown the alternatives.

Thats where the competition will cash in. I'm sure Heljan won't be exclusive online sales 😉
Indeed....
If I'm Heljan looking at this, I'm delighted. Someone else is paying for my (non modelling press) marketing!
Delighted with my new train set, let's go to the model shop to get something new for it.
"Hi, do you have any Hornby TT?"
"No sir, afraid not - but we've just got these stunning TT Class 31's in"
"Wow, they look great, I'll take one please - and several of those long straight tracks, I didn't think Hornby did ones that long, they will save me a fortune"
"....Hornby don't, Sir."
etc.

What have I missed? Which of these are duplicates? I found the Heljan 31 which Hornby aren't doing. There's some Peco track which could sort of be called duplicates
31 (along with 37, 60 and 47) mentioned in the brochure as Phase 3/4 releases.

Just saw this on Twitter. Very clever (though it would benefit from a zoom function!)

Mine has to be the Skoda 100 in yellow, my grandparents in Hungary had one exactly like it when I stayed with them as a child 1979-80. So naturally I've got one of them for my collection.
I don't know if the Skoda 100 was ever sold in the UK, but I do recall that the Wartburg 353 were sold for a brief time there, as well as the Lada 1500... so you could probably get away with one on a British themed layout... Lada 1500 and Lada Niva (along with Skoda 105/120/125) could even be used on a Canadian layout set in the early 1980s.
But I think it'll be a while till we see definitive British road vehicles, Bedford lorries, Rover P6, Marina, Viva, Velox... (these last four I'd love since they were also sold in Canada... my dad had a Rover 2000TC back in the day, I loved that car, great uncle had a Viva)... but one can hope.
British plates and an AA sticker in the window.... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Škoda_100 - I'd say so!

Might have been picked up elsewhere, but the Scalescenes range of ships and buildings https://scalescenes.com/dockscenes/ - can be printed: TT scale (1:120) - reduce Scalescenes OO to 63% as per https://scalescenes.com/not-modelling-in-n-or-oo/

The return is the 1Z54 17:52 Cannon Street to Eastleigh, via the Arun Valley. Hopefully it will be running to time, or pretty close to time, as the weather is going to be quite pleasant and I should get a good picture from my favourite location. If it is running late it may pass after the sun has set.
I do not know when the last class 50 was in that part of Sussex. 50008 and 50015 were at the Brighton 150 celebrations, and I recall 50029 and 50030 operating a railtour along the coastway as part of the class finale. That was 30 years ago!
There was a tour that took in Eastbourne around 2009/10 ish. I know because I was taking photos from the roof of the NCP (Junction Road) Car Park, and they sent a security guard to check I wasn't intending to jump! - He looked relieved when another couple of photographers turned up!

Thanks Don.
Since joining the 2mm association back in January 2020, I've played around with a few ideas, but not actually started anything - although as we moved house that same month and have other priorities first, I'm more than content for it to be a slow-burner whilst I deal with other domestic projects!
The positive I have taken from all this is that if/when built, it would live in a shed that's not yet been built - when we moved in there was a lot of jungle clearance in the garden required, and we uncovered an extra chunk of drive/garden down the side of the outhouse that both us and the estate agent had assumed was a boundary hedge! This good fortune may well allow for a bigger shed than I had initially planned - and as such, a longer layout, so dimensions aren't set in stone as yet, meaning that If I had to add length to make the plan fit, I could easily do this.

Thanks all.
Not completely hopeless then...

A confession and a question
If I mistakenly planned out a potential first 2mm layout on XtrkCad using FineNtrax components, would all the geometry be wrong, or just the length of the turnouts themselves?
