  1. The masking tape mystery can now be resolved.

Apart from the BTU project, I've finally set to on a few repaint jobs.

A pair of DRS 57's - one was the Freightliner sound bargain, the other will be unpowered on a modified Lima chassis to partner it on a pair of FNA's.

DRS 37419 - to be used as a sub for 37423 on Caroline, or top n tail with a yellow 97/3 on a test train. Haven't decided which yellow tractor to do yet, but 97304 is favourite if I can get nameplates.

    973xx - as above.

Not in the pic - a Hornby 56 may also be attacked with the airbrush as 56094 passed by me for the first time in Colas colours about 90 minutes ago and I just happen to have a suitable donor loco on the shelf.

Oops! I appear to have ordered some transfers from John Peck.............................

    Cheers,

    Mick

Looking good Mick. There must be something in the air as I am working on a DRS 57, a 37419 and Colas 56s galore as well! Watch out for 56094 as I'm sure you are aware has a myriad of little detailing issues - aerials, headlights and buffers. PM me if you want the details.

    Keep up the great work.

    Cheers,

    Andi.

  2. Hi Mark,

Hope the exhibition went well. The fates conspired against me and I couldn't make it in the end. Did Andi make it up to see the layout?

    Mike

    Mark,

Glad it went well - the layout looks stunning - nice maroon 37s too!!!

Mike - I didn't make it as i was in Russia of all places! Hoping to make it to Barrow. Hoping to make progress with the Royal Scotsman too, I am still awaiting the etch from Shawplan though!

    Cheers,

    Andi.

  3. Me again

, , unfortunately I got stuck in and didnt take too many pictures while doing the 37 - but the jobs already done include lowering the loco onto its bogies, and also narrowing the bogies so they don't stick out beyond the lower edge of the body. this is done by cutting the bogie sideframes off with a hacksaw , and then glueing them back on - the thickness of the saw cut brings the bogie sideframes in just the right amount.

The small pipes that run to the brake cylinders on the bogies are moulded plastic as supplied on the model and are therefore quite chunky - on the real thing these are very small pipes and describe a distinctive 's' shape as they run into each brake cylinder - so I've had a go at modelling these with some fine wire - and also added the missing cable to the axlebox:

    post-6893-0-89898500-1333050694.jpg

looking now at the noses - the real 37248 has its high intensity headlights mounted lower down than most 37s - a feature that wasn't really practical (cost wise) to tool up for the model. Ive removed the existing headlight and added Replica headlights in the correct position. Ive also beefed up bachmanns rather flat headcode box with a thin layer of plasticard and a Shawplan etch to represent the 'shallow' panel welded onto the headcode boxes of this loco. Before fitting the shawplan panel i've soldered two top hat bearings into the holes , and will then add the etches for the marker lights frames over the top. The reason for adding the bearings is they add a bit more relief .

You can also see I've started cutting out the windscreens too - as these will be getting the shawplan laserglaze treatment shortly.

The odd mix of buffers is prototypical - and a nice feature of this loco. The buffers are an oval Hornby class 31 buffer and eliptical Hornby class 60 buffers.

Next job now is to get the new windscreens fitted -

    Jon

    Jon,

Great work on the 37. I wish I could achieve such standards in my timescales and budget constraints! Anyhow was wondering how you have achieved the blue star MW equipment on the bufferbeam? Apols if you mentioned it elsewhere!

    Cheers,

    Andi.

  4. It's good to see that others apart from the usual suspects are getting into yellow stuff

    http://www.rmweb.co...._50#entry684721

Barrier vehicles virtually done now - will post pics later when I can snap them in daylight. Of all the r-t-r mods I've ever done, this will probably go down as the most fulfuilling (so far) as I've designed the etches and transfers myself and then got them made.

Next project that I'll detailing here is Radio Survey Coach 3 - RSC3 - comprising 9481, 5981, 1256 and 977997. All are relatively easy to do and almost come under the "let's paint it yellow and call it a test coach". (Expect a limited edition repaint from the usual suspects as soon as one of the major manufacturers announces a modern spec Mk2 D/E/F)

977974 is also in there - more later.

    Cheers,

    Mick

Looking forward to this one Mick, particularly how you deal with the BSO. I've got a set of coaches with an eye on this set.

    Cheers,

    Andi.

  5. Hi Mark,

The 66s with RETB were originally 66095 - 66114. I'm not sure how many still carry it now. Of course 66101 is DB red these days, as is 66097 but not sure if they still have the RETB.

Also - your latest 37 is coming along nicely, as are a couple more to tempt you with!

    Cheers,

    Andi.

  6. Thanks for the compliments guys.

The door bumpers are already on - soldered in place awhile back. Some of the doors are inward opening, so no visible hinge or bumper.

Motive power will probably be one of Newton-le-Willows finest......

Fresh from the spraybooth with soft paint - needs atiny bit of edge fettling, but giving it a chance to harden properly before varnish and other detail...

    Cheers,

    Mick

Yet more 'wow'. Thats proper modelling.

  7. Been playing catch up with this. Looking awesome, can't wait to have a play at Ayr! 416 looks good too, have you got a sleeper rake sorted for it yet or shall I get on with one?

37059 is in the works ready to emerge to partner another one of your many 37s in due course!

    Cheers,

    Andi.

  8. For some reason it ran with 423/409 for awhile. Other power in the last couple of years has been single 37409, 37423 and 47501 has also featured recently with Caroline. http://www.flickr.co...ore/6073282693/

But there is this odd working http://www.flickr.co...009/5045360177/

It needs Blue Star /ETH power since it's rebuild in 2008/9

    Good question!

    Cheers,

    Mick

Caroline used to be a buffet coach in a class 201 or 202 (can't remember which) DEMU.

Here is mine - made for me by Britannina Pacific Models. Looks great, its not quite as finly detailed as the one you are doing Mick, its just away at the moment having lighting fitted to it!

    Cheers,

    Andi.

  9. That's really interesting stuff about the missing coach. Something to work on Mike! Meanwhile the rest rumbles on!

Mark - was hoping to get a picture for you to use of one of the next batch but can't upload it via iPhone sadly!

    Andi.

  10. Well Mike I can't guess what it is you're referring to ha ha! Funny thing is that I am doing something for both of you that would look good together!!

I've spent the evening sanding and filling windows in metcam pullmans. That's all I'm saying.

37s looking good Mark. Now stop mentioning all these other layouts and get finishing Rannoch so you can start on mine!!

    Cheers,

    Andi.

  11. What with all this blue talk I just thought I would add that Mark's next batch of blue stock - DRS Blue that is - is progressing nicely and should be heading north by the end of the month. There is - shock, horror - a mildly retro maroon one in this batch but I'll leave you guessing what it might be!

    Cheers,

    Andi.

  12. What's happened to 059?! Status 'X' already?!

They look great on Rannoch Mark - Victory Road is safely in my house but not unpacked as yet! Had a good time at the York exhibition despite the lack of D&E layouts - looking forward to the next one!

    Cheers,

    Andi.

  13. Mark,

Looking good. Not sure if you know, but you can get 'Railtrack' green from precision paints which is what you need for the viaduct. That's the precise colour you need. Without wishing to be a nit picker for a superb layout, the colour you have is not quite blue enough and a touch too browny I think. All shaping together nicely though... bring on 2012!

    Cheers,

    Andi.

  14. Planning/offering to do some weathering Andi?

    Roy

Always!! Yes I have a few which will be entering the paint shop in the new year. Although mine don't light up like yours do Roy!

    A.

  15. Hi Mark,

423 looks great with its new additions..... if only you could have a word with the chap that did it, and make sure he doesn't omit those details in future  !!

I like the idea of the white line on the wheels. I reckon a lining pen will sort it.

Perhaps you could send 409 to rescue it - i have another one of those in works at the moment with a few special refinements.... you'll be sending yours back for rectification!!

Keep up the great work on Rannoch. Can't wait to have a play when its ready!

    Cheers,

    Andi.
