  1. Just out of interest Carl (yeah, right), how big would Glen Sannox be in 00? (not sure if I've asked you that before, if I have - sorry!). Cheers, Dave Waverley West
  2. Hi Peter, Thanks for the new pics. Very nice as always. Glad you've managed to resolve the terminus vs. roundy-roundy debate to your satisfaction! Wishing you and yours a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Cheers, Dave Waverley West
  3. Hi folks, Seeing as I have now more or less finished D9009, I thought I'd post some pics of it. The loco will be used as a "preserved" railtour loco when Waverley West is in sector mode. Hope you like them... Cheers for now, Dave Waverley West
  4. Yeah, too right. It's about time people stood up and exposed this thread for what it really is. All these polite posts of "wonderful modelling", "superb", "amazing". If only people were honest enough to say what they really think.
  5. Hi Trevor, I too must have missed this layout on the old tread. Superb modelling. Interesting track plan. Lovely colouring and detailing. Top marks all round! From a personal perspective, a photographic backscene showing the Welsh hills would maybe be the icing on the cake? Thanks for sharing. And more pics too please! Cheers, Dave Waverley West
  6. An unusual visitor to Haymarket depot spotted last night... Cheers, Dave Waverley West
  7. And another close up... For those so inclined - camera settings: F25 and about 0.3 sec shutter speed I think. Cheers, Dave Waverley West
  8. Hi folks, Just a quick shot this morning of an unusual visitor to Haymarket caught on camera last night... Cheers, Dave Waverley West
  9. We're interested in a place in Mockerkin, so about 3 miles. Not sure whether it's going to come off yet, but it's that or nothing at the moment. It does have a double garage which I have been given permission to take over. I'm thinking an extended Waverley West with a fiddle yard and an extension to Oban with one of Carl's boats. Mustn't get carried away, mustn't get carried away... Cheers, Dave Waverley West
  10. Hi again folks, Just thought I'd post a couple of slight variations on my HST at speed shot after a little fiddling (colour balance). Hope you like it... One thing I've learned recently about pictures on this site is that you can click on them for a bigger picture. Brian - I usually use a fixed shutter speed of 1/25th for these shots and let the camera worry about the other settings. Any faster and I find the shot is too dark with my lighting and any slower and the shot is usually too blurred. Cheers for now, Dave Waverley West
  11. Thanks Jamie and Brian. Brian - I use a Canon EOS 500D, although I used to use a Canon Sureshot S40. I try and use a tripod where possible (I share one with my mum, so I don't always have it to hand). As regards settings, I tend to use fairly standard settings for each type of shot, so I'll post some info on that in a future posting. Here are a couple of recent shots. First up, a first shot of the almost finished 25083 trundling through Princes St on a short oil train. I have resprayed the yellow ends (I thought the Bachmann yellow was too dark on this loco), installed drivers at both ends and weathered it. As it was already a Scottish loco (Eastfield I think), I was quite happy with the number. I also fitted Express Models lights and the new SWD sound-decoder. I just need to put white transfers over the domino dots, as I think the Express Models lights are too yellow as they are. A bit of buffer beam detailing wouldn't go amiss either I think, although the tension couplings will probably stay. Other than that it's a standard Bachmann product. I'll post some more shots once it's completely finished. ... and a shot of 27105 and 37191 side by side in the platforms. An unexpected and exciting parcel arrived in the post this morning - the new Rails limited edition 47541 The Queen Mother. That might well be bumped up the list of projects. It does look superb and although I don't think it will herald the start of withdrawals of my Heljan duffs, I think the new Bachmann 47s will have a place on Waverley West. I didn't think the first attempt was good enough really but a quick glance at the new arrival suggests the worst weaknesses have at least been eliminated (those riveted windscreen surrounds for starters!). Cheers for now, Dave Waverley West
  12. Hi Peter, Love the shots, especially the large logo duff. Which one is it? I know I've seen it on Llanbourne before. I have a Heljan 47 awaiting renumbering and I can't decide which one to go for. I fancy an Inverness loco as a change from my Eastfield/Hayment locos. 47550 University of Dundee is one of the frontrunners at the moment. The Inverness large logo livery always seemed to be slightly non-standard - black roof (or were they just always dirty?!), slightly different black cab surrounds, etc. Cheers, Dave Waverley West
  13. Hi Mark, You're tempting me with those bogie tanks. I've fancied a rake of those ever since they came out. Think they'd look nice with a grid on the front! I've not been making much progress either recently. Think it must be the time of year. My enthusiasm levels have been a bit low recently for various reasons (neighbour problems mainly). It's not that I don't want to do it, it's just that I don't seem to find the energy to get round and do it. I guess we all go through these phases. Looking forward to seeing some more progress from you when you find the time. What you've done so far is superb. Cheers for now, Dave Waverley West
  14. Hi again folks, Just thought I'd post a video I put on the old thread, partly to remind myself how to do it! Hope you like it... I hope to do one of the new SWD base speaker-fitted Deltics soon too. Not too much new stuff coming from Waverley West just at the moment for various reasons - although the 25 is expected to emerge from the works very soon. It just needs reassembling now. Cheers, Dave Waverley West
  15. Noooooooooooooooo!!!! These latest pics could put back my release from the clinic weeks, if not months. I was due to be let out tomorrow as there hadn't been any pics for a while and now they won't say when they'll let me out. Heeeeelp!! I'm cured, believe me. I don't want one, I don't have the room and anyway even if I did want one I don't have anywhere to put it and... and... Cheers, Dave Waverley West
  16. Thanks Peter, Grimley, 7APT7 and all. 7APT7 - the layout is fixed unfortunately so never leaves home. Having said that a house move is once again a distinct possibility, so that may have to change, at least as a one-off anyway! If you're ever in the area, send me a PM and I'd be happy to show you the layout. Peter - do you know what diagrams the 25s worked? Was it freight only generally? I don't remember them having any regular passenger diagrams, but I could well be wrong... Interesting to watch your deliberations and discussions over your extension unfold by the way. It would be good to see Llanbourne grow, but then again it is brilliant as it is. Cheers, Dave Waverley West
  17. Hi folks, Thanks for the comments, guys. Much appreciated. Peter - I don't think many 37s were painted in the ScotRail version of the RR livery - one or two at most. 7APT7 - have posted some more night shots below as requested. Some (many?) of these have been posted before on the previous RMWeb but I thought it would be good to put them on the new site too. Re. other progress, I have now renumbered my green Deltic as D9009 and it is ready for light weathering as a railtour loco. 25083 has now been fitted with lights and an SWD sound chip and just needs some final weathering touches before release from the works. Hope to post some pics soon! Happy Modelling! Cheers for now, Dave Waverley West
  18. Hi folks, Thanks Ragtag. Yes, the article is now confirmed as being in the January issue. Here are a few shots of the latest release from the Waverley West works, a partially resprayed Rails limited edition 37427 in ScotRail livery. I wasn't happy with the ScotRail/Regional Railways dark blue or the colour of the stripes, so I resprayed the blue and used Fox Transfers ScotRail stripes. Finished off with light weathering of course. Hope you like the pics! Currently in the works are a 25 being fitted with the latest SWD sound chip and working lights and my final Deltic for the time-being, being renumbered as green D9009 in preserved condition. Coming soon! Cheers, Dave Waverley West
  19. Stunning Carl, just stunning. What can I say? You didn't mean that, Dave. Yes, I did. No, I didn't. Yes, I did, No, I.... Oh well, that's another expensive therapy bill this month. Cheers, Dave Waverley West
  20. Lovely shots, Peter. I love the trackside detailing of Llanbourne - the point rodding, the discarded sleepers, etc., etc. without it being overdone. Great stuff. I need to do a bit more of that sort of thing myself I think. Cheers Dave Waverley West
  21. Thanks Peter, Mark and everyone. I have 4 Deltics now - 55007 with Finsbury Park white window surrounds and later style windscreen wipers 55016 standard BR Blue 55021 standard BR Blue with domino headcodes D9007 Original green - to be renumbered as D9009 in preserved green. That way I can still run a Deltic with Waverley West in Sector mode. All these have been reprogrammed and fitted with bass reflex speakers by SWD, which improves the sound incredibly. It's been a long wait to have the Deltics on the layout but I think it's been worth it. ScotRail 37427 is about to emerge from the works after a partial respray. Trouble is, Waverley West has reverted to good old BR Blue while it's been in the works, so it doesn't really have a place on the layout just at the moment. Not sure of my next project at the moment. Just a tidy up I think to start with after all my recent projects. The list of potential projects is too long to list here! Cheers for now, Dave Waverley West
  22. Glad you're OK, Mike. The loss of PC Barker was truly tragic, especially for the 4 children and wife he leaves behind. We're OK here too, we're too high up to be affected. Fortunately, most of our friends in Cockermouth live fairly high up as well, but I do know one couple (in Derwentside Gardens) who will have been flooded. I did think when they bought the house only a few years ago that they were foolish. She said at the time that the last time the place flooded the water "only" reached up to next door. That is just too close to call. Why they allow houses to be built in places like that is beyond me, prime land or not. Watching footage of Cockermouth Main Street being flooded seems to be becoming depressingly familiar. Your ship is coming along superbly, but don't tell Carl I told you that. We are currently considering moving to Mockerkin where I would have most of a double garage to play with. Not sure whether it will come off but Waverley West with an extension to Oban does sound incredibly tempting. I believe they did run direct trains between the two stations at times. Cheers for now, Dave Waverley West
  23. Well, alright then, I s'pose it's quite good reallly. I'll admit to that. But my therapist said I'm not to go any further than that. Otherwise there's a danger of a serious relapse, he said. Dave Waverley West
  24. You forget, Carl, I'm not watching this thread anymore. Especially now your modelling standards seem to have dropped so much, judging by the look of those pictures anyway, not that I've looked at them though of course. Cheers, Dave Waverley West
