  1. Hi again folks, Here are a few more shots of the new Deltics as promised... 55016 leaves The Mound Tunnels and passes through Princes St... 55016 again later in its journey... 27105 and 55007 on shed... And of course these days, I can't seem to do a post without doing at least one one of these... Plus various shots of 55016... Hope you like them. Cheers for now, Dave Waverley West
  2. Hi folks, Here are some pics of the DBSOs on the layout as promised. This one was converted from an old Airfix Mk 2 using the Hurst kit (IIRC). It was one of my earlier efforts and really needs lights fitting. Another job on the list. This is the ScotRail one, which I must admit I bought on e-bay. Again, it really needs lights fitting... I must admit a RTR Mk 2 DBSO to the standard of the new Hornby Mk 3 driving trailer would be very welcome. At the other end is 47702, one of my trusty Heljan shove duffs and again one of my earlier efforts and in need of a little reworking and improvement... Hope to be back soon with some shots of the Deltics. Cheers for now, Dave Waverley West
  3. Hi Peter, The track looks great and makes such a difference to a layout. Your mixing of all those colours makes me feel very lazy - I just used varying proportions of sleeper grime, frame dirt, roof dirt and weathered black from Railmatch spraycans. Did you use an airbrush? Cheers, Dave Waverley West PS See that, a whole post from me without any hint of hijacking. I can do it when I try.
  4. Always nice to see layouts based in Cornwall. Cheers, Dave Waverley West (PS Hi Mike, methinks that makes it 1-1).
  5. Thanks Peter. Yep, the new ploughs are on and here's the proof... Cue someone telling me these ploughs are wrong too... Ragtag - I used clear Plastikard sheet - Slater's Plastiglaz or similar. Note to self - must post those photos of the DBSOs.... Cheers, Dave Waverley West
  6. Hi again folks, As a brief change from all things ScotRail, I've been improving one of my 50s, large logo 50044, which has now been deweathered and spruced up a little for a more frequent role as a railtour loco... Cheers for now, Dave Waverley West
  7. 50042 - it would be good to see "Doncaster is going blue" back on here. Those videos in particular were great. As you may or may not know, Waverley West is now back on here and the turning point for me was finding the "Layout topics" thread. I still don't find I'm using other areas of the site as much as I used to (general railway-related threads, wheeltappers, workbenches, etc. etc.), but hopefully that will come with time. It's the people and the interaction that makes it worthwhile for me and I don't regret "coming back", so I can only encourage you to do the same. Sorry, Peter, there I go again, hijacking your thread. Some people, hey?! Incidentally, Peter, I think the 37 is much improved now and really looks the part. Good stuff. Cheers, Dave Waverley West
  8. Thanks for the feedback, guys. Here is a track plan... The lines on the right all join up. The green dotted lines show the position of The Mound Tunnels, while the blue dotted lines show the position of Waverley Bridge in the station area and the end of the scenic section on the other side of the layout. The whole layout measures about 5.1m x 2.0 - 2.4m. Ragtag - yes, I can post some overall pics for you. Phil - this is a "layout that never leaves home". I have submitted an article to Model Rail and I now understand from Ben Jones that it will be published in the January edition. Cheers for now, Dave Waverley West
  9. Hi folks Just thought I'd post a few pics of the new Deltics as promised. They have been reprogrammed by SWD and fitted with bass reflex speakers in the fuel tanks. This has produced a huge improvement in sound over the standard Bachmann version. I hope to post a video or two of them to do them justice. I then resprayed and weathered them and modified the headcode to the domino style in the case of 21. Please excuse the tension locks for those offended by such things! I hope to post some more of them 'in service' later. Cheers for now, Dave Waverley West
  10. I hope that doesn't mean you're planning on posting pics of that as well, Carl? You wouldn't do that to me, would you? Cheers, Dave Waverley West
  11. Yep, I meant Glen Sannox. There was a slight rearrangement of the letters in my head between reading the book and getting to the computer. All the right letters (well, almost anyway), just not necessarily in the right order. Cheers, Dave Waverley West
  12. Hi Gary, Good to see that this quality layout has made it "to the other side". Your work just oozes atmosphere. Absolutely superb. Am really looking forward to watching this develop. Cheers for now, Dave Waverley West
  13. Hi guys, Thanks for all your great feedback. It certainly makes being back on the new RMWeb more than worthwhile. The Deltics have now been released from the works so some photos will follow soon. Scotrail 37427 is also virtually complete too. In answer to your various questions... Stuart (Brush47337) - yep, a push-pull 27 set is certainly possible as I have a couple of 27s and some suitable Mk IIs, although it will only be with a 27/0 and 27/1 combination (I think the sets used a 27/1 and a 27/2, didn't they?). I'm not the type to worry about too much about that though! Chris - I haven't forgotten about posting some DBSO shots for you. Will hopefully post some with my next set of pics. philiprporter - I don't find it easy to find the time to work on the layout, especially as I have a (fairly) young family and am basically self-employed. Weekends are usually out, so it's basically a question of late'ish weekday evenings when I'm often tired and not too motivated! In the early days, I often seemed to have a major disaster just as I was about to finish too! Fortunately things have improved on that score as the major scenic work and wiring are now complete. I've been working on Waverley West for about 6 years now, and progress has been quite variable over that time. Sometimes I really get the bit between my teeth and manage two or three evening sessions of a couple of hours or more in a week. Other times I can go several weeks without doing or achieving much. I try and do something every day if I can, however small. That way it keeps the layout moving forwards, otherwise I find it's very easy to stagnate and make no progress at all. Hope that answers your question! Hope to be back soon with some new pics. Cheers for now, Dave Waverley West
  14. Hi Mark, Re. your query about Network Rail green a while ago, I used Ford Modena Green for the railings in Princes St Gardens on Waverley West, which I think are painted that colour (certainly not far off anyway). You could check out my layout thread to see the colour (after toning down with a dirty wash). Not sure just how accurate it is but it's close enough for me! Someone may be able to suggest a closer match though of course. Cheers, Dave Waverley West
  15. Nooooooooooooo, not more pictures! No one's interested in this thread, it's obvious from the posts, so you might as well stop this now, Carl. No one wants to know. Really. And I was just beginning to think the therapy was working too. How can you do this to me? Incidentally, that picture of a ferry at Oban I mentioned a while ago was Glen Saxxon I think, must have been taken in the early 70s judging from the 27 in front of it (BR Blue and working headcode). I think it was withdrawn in '89. Do you know what route it was used on or anything about it? No, Dave, stop it. You don't want to know. Stop this madness now. Stop it I say. Cheers, Dave Waverley West
  16. Hi Mark, Just thought I'd drop by and say hi, now that I've finally found your thread again. Yes, I know I'm a bit on the slow side. I've only just discovered the layout topics link! Anyway, good to be able to read the updates on your progress again. Rannoch Moor is really beginning to take shape nicely now. Cheers for now, Dave Waverley West
  17. Hi folks, Well, discovering the Layout topics link has finally given me the enthusiasm I needed to resurrect the Waverley West layout thread. I have opted for the thread approach, as I think it's better for the two-way communication that I like so much on RMWeb. Maybe that's because I don't understand blogs fully though! For those of you who haven't come across Waverley West before, here is a link to the old thread: http://www.rmweb.co....php?f=9&t=31806 I thought I'd start by showing a few pics from the old thread. Sorry for the repetition for anyone who's seen this shots before. Right, that's me settled in. Normal service can now hopefully be resumed. As I've not been RMWebbing so much recently, progress on the modelling front has actually increased over the past few weeks. Two Deltics are about to be released from the works (16 and 21) (with due apologies to Mike, Michel and any other non-Deltic fans), along with a partially resprayed 37427 Highland Enterprise. 27105 has had the correct type of snowploughs fitted and I have also completed two work platforms and stepladders for the depot. During its absence from RMWeb, Waverley West has also reverted to the BR Blue era to accommodate the Deltics when they arrive. Watch this space, folks! Happy modelling. Cheers for now, Dave Waverley West
  18. That's what I was looking for! Cheers Mike! Dave
  19. Hi Mike, Finally found your thread! I'm probably a bit slow on the uptake but I'm finding it difficult if not impossible to find any of the old threads (particularly layout threads - with them being mixed in with workbench threads) on this new RMWeb. Glad to see you have got your layout thread up and running again though. I really ought to get the Waverley West thread going again. Good to have found you again anyway! Your ferry's coming along very nicely. Cheers for now, Dave
  20. That, and a dirty wash applied and then wiped off over the grilles to make them stand out and look a bit more "3D". Dave Waverley West
  21. Interesting point that James and one which I entirely agree with, basically. But, how do you turn a pristine model into a realistic looking ex-works loco? In theory, it already should be ex-works, and yet, as you say, it doesn't look right. It looks like the toy/model it actually is. It's a problem I'm facing at the moment with a Deltic which is to be in "as preserved condition", which should in theory mean that it's already immaculate and does not need anything doing to it. My plan at the moment is to weather it and then remove virtually all the weathering. This should make the nooks and crannies of the locos (grilles, door lines, etc, etc) stand out and take away the "toy" look and also give the paintwork/bogies a slightly more realistic look. Any views from other RMWebbers on this would be welcomed though! Sorry if you think this is hijacking your thread Peter. I just thought it was an interesting point! Cheers, Dave Waverley West
  22. Fascinating link that, Mike. Thanks for sharing! The photos don't enlarge though, do they? Shame. Cheers Dave
  23. Bit better I s'pose, Carl. Not much though really. Who knows, you might even make a half-decent model out of that. In a book somewhere I have a shot of a 27 at Oban (taken in the 70s I think) with a smaller ferry in the background. Can't remember the ferry's name now, but I'll dig the book out. Not sure whether it was the Isle of Mull's predecessor or another of the ferries that worked from Oban in those days. That might be more of a possibility. Slippery slope, Dave, slippery slope. Stop it... Stop it... Cheers, Dave Waverley West
