  1. So are any of the forthcoming SLW class 25s suitable for my west country, Devon/Cornwall layout, I would like one in late green and one in early blue, renumbering is an option but getting all the other variables like exhaust port, grills/steps plated or not etc is a mine field, all suggestions gratefully received.

  2. You're very kind Bill, the seat pattern is a bit on the bold side I think I may airbrush a fine coat of blue to loose some of the boldness, the roof is a better fit than it looks in the pictures as it was just resting on for the photos, 2 screws from the under side of the floor up through the toilet and kitchen compartments hold it down tight with brass nuts soldered to brass off cuts epoxied to the inside of the roof. I don't fit the roof permanently to any vehicle with glazing in case something comes loose inside. The interior comes out in 3 sections at the moment, handrails and windscreen wipers, curtains etc will be fitted after painting and glazing.

    Any way enough of that....

Did you finish the Observation Saloon?

Oh dear Bill, I was hoping you had forgotten about that.... you should know how long it takes me to complete anything, I’m still building the layout I started 42 years ago!

The observation saloon has stalled at the painting stage, having had problems with my airbrush and loosing confidence in my painting abilities but at the moment I’m working through my many half finished projects hoping life will be long enough to compete them so it WILL get finished in the not too distant future.

    Here’s a few pictures:- Westward 4mm scale BR/WR dia Q13 inspection saloon.

  4. Hi Bill, I'm sorry to hear of your 16XX problems, mine runs superbly on my 30+ year old home made controllers. About 32 years ago I was sent on an electronics coarse at work, part of which was to complete a project back at my work site before returning to complete the second part of the training, for my project I chose to build toy model railway train controllers taking the design from a model railway electronics book I have and ordering the parts to make several controllers, which I have to say look very like John's voltage regulators, these I have powered from the 16v ac outlet of my old H&M controllers or the 20v ac outlet of an ancient transformer that my father procured from somewhere to power my boyhood Scalextric set.

That is very useful as it shows a treble pig. The double dog bone pig was as a result of much research and based on exact dimensions. We had help from somebody with real first hand knowledge of the steel works of that period. But anyone who wants treble pigs making can just contact us. They look way better in the flesh. The painting effect is time consuming and uses multiple shades. These aren't just some one colour vague plastic chunk. I really appreciate the second picture especially. Thank you!

Thanks for the reply, good to see these will be back in stock soon, are the treble pigs also becoming available?

(Deluxe super smooth dog bone pictured last)

The lads at TMC have been busy making new loads for the plate wagons. Steel sheets, plates, slabs, tubes, H section. Now I'm just about ready to introduce hopefully a few more loads. Iron Pigs, Dog Bone style Iron Pigs in textured finish or smooth finish with deluxe rust effect. A few more shades will be tried such as grey, beige, grey and yellowy rust. And runs of pigs with mixed shades. The 'Dog Bone' style Pigs will probably cost £18 to £22ish per wagon I'm guessing and that should be around 180 pigs. But you can put more or less in. TMC can supply trestles too for carrying larger sheet loads. BUT THIS IS NOT 100% ACCURATE TECHNICALLY, as the wagons need slight modifications if you want to be fussy. Some of the other loads available are quite a bit cheaper for those who have to watch the ££'s, but still really look the part! We will make lower amounts of the most challenging to produce loads.

I can't seem to find the pig iron loads on the TMC web site, is it not available any more?

C'mon  -  yer can't expect the guys to incorporate markings they can't make out ............... well not at this stage anyway !

    ( black=ribbed buffers ? - surely not )

Yes... saw that one coming. Just thought it was worth a mention, someone may know what the markings were? At least having noticed these it will give me (and maybe others) some 'improvements' to make when the model arrives. I didn't mean it as a criticism.

Having got the late Peter Gray's book 'West Country Railways' for Christmas which has a loverly picture of the BR liveried road van on the Wenford line I think I really must order one.

In the picture I mentioned in my previous post which shows the veranda end to the right, I noticed there is a ‘NOT IN COMMON USE’ marking on the right with a plate above this with further marking which I’m unable to make out. Also the buffers are black ribbed and the sole bar is black, is it too late to incorporate these? The picture was taken in May 1958.

Cosco Galaxy? Sounds like an own brand chocolate bar....

I suppose I'd better order one then. Need to find my subs number, I put it in a place where I'll remember.....

It's Vinegar Castle I'm mainly after. I'll pick up a normal one at a later date. but I can see 1661 being popular.

When I ordered my 16XX they said they didn’t need my subs number, hope I don’t get charged the full price!

You do realise that the sooner you share your concerns, the better it is for @Oliver Rails and @61661 to take onboard feedback and make the necessary changes.

Also if you look at the CAD images, the tanks are present, so I'm sure that answers your questions.

As you say the tanks are present on the CAD images also the guard irons so hopefully these will be on the model, no sanding pipes but at least this will give me some 'improvements to make.

Yes  I probably should have raised this earlier but thought maybe it was just me and it was a general feeling when viewing the pictures of the pre- production sample. I hadn't pined it down to any particular thing until recently viewing the drawings, and I guess the items I mentioned are important for the look of the 'face' of the model.

Exclusive 18000 Gas Turbine "Kerosene Castle" Livery Sample!

We are pleased to share the first images of the BR Green Late Crest 18000 Gas Turbine livery sample/

The sample looks fantastic and Heljan have really captured the large presence that the 18000 displays.

As you will find with every pre-production sample, the purpose of EP and livery samples are to flush out any errors or issues with the model before it goes into full production. Several minor points have been identified so far and necessary changed will be implemented.

    Read more and pre-order HERE

I know it’s a pre-production sample, and I have kept quiet till now but I was a little disappointed by these pictures, the extra orange/red lining will help but it just looks a bit devoid of detail, for example the tanks under the buffer beams and sanding pipes are missing, maybe these will be added on the production models, after all this is price wise quite a high end model, and yes I have paid my deposite.

Pleased that the Cambrian Herring can be had again. I wouldn't mind building another (and one of Justin's Rumney Models ones - I am mid-way through building a GWR P7 from Southwark Bridge Models, via Roxey). Three or four would be about the maximum I really need for a c.1960 ballast rake... But that's for later.

Here's my first attempt (modelled in mid-60s garb to complement my Catfish and Dogfish).

That looks very good Adam, I have built 4 and have 5 more not yet started, can I ask who's transfers you used.

  13. I’ve just fitted David’s 3D printed auto gear to my Bachmann auto coach having received them on Monday.

The baggage end I managed to split in 2 while filing out the slot for the coupling spring but this made it much easier to fit to the underside of the coach around the coupling, I used an Ambis  Coupling hook with Smiths LP8-A links, the hook was set back as closely as possible in order to get the buffers touching the buffers of my Bachmann 6412 pannier tank. Nothing in my opinion looks worse than the coach bouncing off the buffers of the loco, my corners are a minimum 3 foot radius with points mostly  B7 or larger and this I find work fine with the buffers just contacting on straight track and buffers compressing on the inside of corners, the pannier has sprung buffers but the coach does not......yet.

In conclusion I must say Davids prints are very fine and really give the idea of all the mechanical gubbins under the ends of the coach.EEB70D56-8F05-4C09-82F7-448BD3182568.jpeg
