  1. I know Bachman give the minimum radius for the Fairlie as 12 inches but has anyone tried it round sharper curves than this? I’m building a minimum sized round and round layout and a little sharper curves than 12 inches would be useful.

Since it should have been available this Thursday (the 9th), I would guess that the June 1 announcement was simply a mistake.

Well that’s probably the best explanation, no big deal just wondering if others had received their issues, thanks to all the random strangers on here who replied 😉.

Have you tried asking the publishers, rather than random strangers on the internet?

Yes, first email failed due to ‘an error’ second one got an automated reply.

  4. What has happened to Model Rail no. 301, advertised as out 1st June my subscription copy usually arrives a few days before it’s in the shops but nothing yet, several people on face book saying it’s not out yet, it would be good to see an explanation from the publishers.

  5. I have connected the power cars and the trailer cars together into the 4 car set and both power cars are now running as they should so it looks like  one of the trailer car connections was not quite together correctly, this was the first time the 4 car set has been apart since purchased back in 2016, I can't believe it was that long ago, it usually lives on the layout or on a removeable storage track.

Don't quote me on this, but I think both power cars need to be connected together for both to run.  I think they are both controlled by a single DCC chip.

Yes I think you’re right, I’ve just tried the power cars coupled together without trailer cars and both run, so I guess I’m looking at a connection fault on one of the trailer cars.

Yes, but I haven’t managed to test it fully. When I ran the power cars back to back both worked, so I’m assuming it was a connection issue. Unfortunately I haven’t got my layout setup so haven’t been able to retest the whole train.

Thanks for your prompt reply, I’m please you got yours sorted, I think it must be the chip gone open circuit, could maybe bypass the chip, the other power car runs on its own. Will probably give Rapido UK a call.

Has anyone got any tips for troubleshooting a dead power car? I haven’t run my APT-e since originally receiving it when it worked fine. I haven’t had space to build my layout after moving home causing the lack of running - I’ve finally made room and am at the planning stage so wanted to try the ATP-E through potential point work I had mocked up, but one of the power cars didn’t have power, I checked the connection with the coach and it seemed fine, so wasn’t sure what to try next.

Did you sort your dead power car? I have a similar problem, mine is dc no sound, if I put power direct to the motor the motor runs fine, I’ve coupled both power cars together but It still won’t run :-(

Beautiful biking weather here……tempted to hit pre one for a few days…..or a automatic scooter ?… talking of automatics etc reminds me of one of my mates bikes….a Honda 250 dream, about 1978/79 which used some form of automatic gearbox.

Never really took off, shame really as in their wisdom BMW have placed the clutch in such a position in my bike ( R1200RT) that the bike has to be split in two to change it….. not a job for the feint hearted and a likely bill of about £2,000 to get a main dealer to do it.

Youd think they’d learn…..the latest incarnation they’ve done the same with the alternator!

    Now where’s me cold beer…..

I remember the automatic Honda Dreams well, we had a 400cc demonstrator from Honda when I was despatch riding for Cycle Courier in 1978. The clutch on my BMW 80/7 is still good after 160 thousand miles!

@2ManySpams Do you have a clearer picture and dimensions? I might get chance to draw one up in 3D and print for you.

    One for @mudmagnet

I have a pair of your Donelli PD350 track lifters and have seen on Facebook a 3d print you have done of the lifting beam to go with these, I would very much like to get hold of one if you have them available, also interested in the frames and box for Denflat wagons. I hope to be there on Sunday.

    Rich,

That O11 Siphon was I think a 1959 conversion, I need to dig out my notes to be 100% sure. It is definitely not the one shown by bubbles2 (although they are cracking images), as the corridor connection has been removed at the spraying end as can be seen. I love the fact it is still on American bogies as well. I’ll have a search to see what else I can find.

    Andy.

😞 or maybe this one? Or maybe not because I’ve just realised this is an inside frame.

On page 29 there is a photo in the weedkiller article of an outside framed Siphon G which has been rebuilt with windows and is being used (in BR days) as part of one of the weed killer trains.

I dont suppose anyone has more info about this coach, in particular when it was rebuilt?  I dont recall seeing it mentioned in Slinn, but in the unlikely event it was a GWR rather than BR conversion I would love to model it...

    Is it this one

  13. Having been to the Staplegrove swag event in the past I know the parking is very limited, having a general dislike of  4 wheeled transport and living almost 20 miles from a network railway station if I come I will be arriving by motorcycle. Last time I managed to find a small parking spot at the hall but if this is not possible where is the next closest parking? Bearing in mind with a motorcycle security is always a problem.

  14. The Whitewash coach DW139 is one corridor toplight which has lasted a long time in many different liveries but with much conversion along the way it would be good to see a model of it maybe with different slides tooled for the body side changes made over the years, it’s a coach that many people could justify as a one off to be included in parcels or passenger trains into the 1980s.

    Hi everyone,

We did consider doing that as a possibility, but it’s so hard to replicate well (as is a canvas connection anyway) and it only works for solo vans, which would mean alternative gangways which would drive up cost and we were already at the limit of what we could charge, not to mention the hangers etc being separate items and easily broken off if messed with in such a manner.

As it is, the gangway connections are rubber, which makes that aspect of modelling them collapsed easier.

    Cheers!

    Fran

Thanks for the reply Fran, it’s very refreshing to have a manufacturer who takes note and responds so rapidly. I totally understand keeping the cost down.

  16. I very much like the look of your Siphons and will certainly be putting an order in for some, but there is one detail which to me stands out as not quite like the prototype, more often than not the lower part of the corridor connection would be pulled into the end, when the corridor connection was not in use which was most of the time as I rember them in BR blue days and as most of us I guess will be running them with the corridor connections disconnected I wonder if this is something that could be replicated, maybe with a straight or pulled in  connection that could be changed over.

This is something I have attempted to model on my Lima detailed Siphons.
