  1. Too late to do anything about the scan, but is this any good? Charliewagon_GWR_cattle.pdf
  2. Crimson/cream, blood/custard? Who's paint did you use for this finish? Charlie
  3. The 33 was in the SP carriage shed at the weekend, you could see it through the museum window. Because the windows are double glazed it created an optical illusion and made it look 10ft long through 2 of the windows. Being just green it fits in well, why duplicate a blue one which is just down the road at the Spa Valley. I want to talk about Skippy, our Sentinel 4W DH, after passing over a donation to the HK station fund on Sunday I was allowed to drive the loco up and down the HK yard with one of the 13T Medfits attached, I managed to stop within limits and keep to the speed limits. Not a class P or Terrier, but it was good fun, really enjoyed it. The mind does funny things but my mate has convinced me that I should have one of these for my model railway project. According to the website our Sentinel was rebuilt in the 70's after an altercation at Thoresby colliery, subsequently rebuilt by Thomas Hill in Rotherham with a Vanguard cab. So there is a difference between the Hornby model and Skippy. Does anyone know if somebody has made some etched conversion kit or is there a 3D print conversion for changing the Hornby model to something resembling the mark we have on the railway?
  4. Hopefully it stays as D6570 and green.
  5. Very nice, in all the 2275 pages I dare say that this question has already come up, but what is the K's model mean't to be? J3? J4?
  6. There are still photographers, last time I was down there they were over on the up side catching the yard shunter coming out and the empty stock moving up towards Hornsey.
  7. Can you remember the goods shed at Palmers Green and travelling face to face in the Quad sets? I can just recall it though more the dirty Mk1 suburbans and Cravens.
  8. Missed this one 60031 Golden Plover on an up express at Wood Green. Pity about the loco but some of the ballast is in focus? Always thought it strange the down main being a colour light signal.
  9. Tony, following our conversation yesterday here are some of the old photos taken with a Kodak Brownie by my brother, probably May 61. We lived next to Bethune Park just north of New Southgate and our next-door neighbour who was a secondman at Hornsey used to take us down to either New Southgate or Wood Green and drop us off to spot, banana sandwiches and a flask of Heinz soup it was in those days!!! We also got the occasional cab ride down to Hornsey and if it was a Sunday a trip around the shed. A magic place to spot on the southern end of the down Wood Green platform opposite the up signal box. You could tell by the bells from the box that something was approaching and the line indicators off the end of the platform by the barrow crossing gave you an idea of which line the train was approaching from. Oh for a better camera at the time? 60526 Sugar Palm on an up express, my brother seems to think that this was quite rare at WG, a 50A York engine. 60054 Prince of Wales on home turf 60513 Dante on the up side at New Southgate. 61393 down side at Wood Green, such a shame that the focus is not there. WD 2-8-0 on the down side at Wood Green, same frustration again. Baby Deltic on the down main at Wood Green Baby Deltic D5905 on the up main and on a stopper at Wood Green. Deltic on the down main at Wood Green EE type 3 on IL59 down main at Wood Green. To Cleethorpes? D208 on the down slow at Wood Green D0280 with no yellow ends on 1G60 the down Sheffield Pullman at New Southgate. You can't go back and takes these photos again like you can't change the camera or who processed the film, but they have been kept for a bit of nostalgia. Some could be improved because I still have the negatives but they are a larger size than 35mm and don't fit in my scanner. I do have a few other photos of non-eastern locos, I'll scan them and post later perhaps. Regards Charlie
  10. Steve, can you tell Rob that the battery you were looking at powers this, the approach platform indicator. If Rob doesn't understand anything, its best to leave alone until it can be worked out. Everything on that layout is there for a reason. I think you'll find some text in a 1950's article somewhere that the Borchester layouts were started late 1940's and preceded the Archers. Regards Charlie
  11. I was wondering whether to post the question on here and I made the wrong decision. You missed the point.
  12. I viewed the class 55 yesterday and it is mightily impressive. So to pick up on the words "definitive deltic" in the video, it certainly looks it, I don't know all the functions the sound chip has, but F15 is an English voice announcing a departure from Waverley? By parentage I'm half Scottish but saw Deltics mainly at the Kings Cross end, but if I put the other hat on it would be good to hear an Edinburgh accent announcing a Waverley departure. Come to think of it, if I lived in or around Newcastle, perhaps announce the departures to London or Edinburgh in a geordie accent...Definitve Deltic?
  13. Martin?Wickham, On the button, many thanks Regards Charlie
  14. A friend has passed this photo of a junction station over to me asking me where it is. He thinks that it the Brighton main line but it doesn't ring any bells. Any thoughts ?
  15. Having had a bit more time to research the 165 DE, aside from the Bo'ness shunter there are certainly quite a few more preserved and a fair bit of information going back in RMweb to lean on, the search engine had its moments and came up with subjects that had nothing to do with what I was looking for, but eventually got there. So I decided to have a go at the DE and ordered the kit last Thursday lunchtime and it arrived first thing Friday from Judith Edge, excellent service Michael.
  16. Just came across this topic, I'm on the verge of retiring and looking for a shunter for a layout. To cut a long story short, I was an apprentice with Babcock & Wilcox in Renfrew back in the mid-1970 and the works had siding all over the place and you always knew that shunting was going on by the noise of the wheels having an argument with the tight curves around the place. Moving forward 45 years I was looking at the Bo'ness & Kinneil railway website and notice that they were using an ex B&W 0-4-0 shunter of the 165DS type. So, before I go and buy this kit, does anyone know what the main differences are between the BR and industrial shunters? The B&W shunter does not have a jack shaft, the exhaust is also directly in front of the cab, not at the front of the bonnet?
  17. 60103 has been at the Mid-Hants a few weeks hence why I thought they were coming back, but I notice that it is staying longer than I thought and will be running tomorrow and the following 7/8th March.
  18. Just seen two Bluebell Bulleid coaches (on trailers) sitting on the slip road from the A272 onto the A23 south? How does stock normally travel by road to and from the Bluebell? From the direction they were pointing I assume that they were going down to Burgess Hill unless they go all the way down to the A27 and then north up the A275 through Chailey? I assume the reason why they did not travel by rail to the Midhants is they do not have the relevant certification unlike the Mets? Axle and pull bar testing etc
  19. This would be something different sitting in a rake of say Bmann 14T tankers, can anyone recommend a 9' wheelbase wooden frame kit for this?
  20. Below is an extract from December 1962 edition of the Model Railway Constructor, initially this was not of much interest to me until I read the text. It's a wooden framed wagon and was still in use in April1962, It would be an interesting prototype to have in amongst the Mainline and Bachmann 14T oil tankers I have, but was there a shut-off date when wooden framed wagons could not longer be used?
  21. Clive/Tony, thanks for the response, I can understand the 1 and 31, but having spotted on the southern ECML for a long time the C threw me. If it was Peterborough then this would have been B going into the 70's. I'll give you a couple more - 1A46 D1507 coming through the down loop platform at Wood Green 1G60 with Falcon on the down main at New Southgate, I'd guess that it is the Sheffield Pullman. Now that's an interest coach on the up side. 4S04, D399 on the down slow through Wood Green 1L59, unknown 37 on the down fast at Wood Green Terrible photos but every picture tells a story. The camera was a Kodax Brownie 127, not a box brownie as I originally thought. And finally something without a head code, but the horse box behind is interesting, mind you Ally Pally did have a race course.
  22. Tony, another early Deltic for you, no indication of the number but early 60's, approaching Wood Green on the down main, but what was 1C31? If you are at Stevenage over the weekend then hopefully I will see you there on Saturday, looks like we can get a direct train up from Brighton for the first time. Regards Charlie
  23. This was taken probably with a Kodak Brownie from a train passing FP in it's early days
  24. until

Some good layouts here this year. I can't remember seeing Jas Milham down on the south coast before, but he is an interesting guy and explains what modelling in S scale is all about with his Abbey Street layout, very nice. Mark Tatlow's Portcullin layout does not need any explanation really, it's 1970's ScR modelling with DCC sound at it's best, excellent layout. And if you like building loco kits and detailing RTR locos, and then weather them all, you must have somewhere like an MPD to run them, hence Ian Forsyth is showing Holly Bank Grove obo Newhaven Club. If you are in the area it is worth a visit to support a local club.
  25. Unless anyone knows otherwise this may be the only DMR L1 tank model, made by Ian Forsyth, seen here running on Borchester Market. The photo does not do the model justice, I extracted it from a word document. Regards Charlie
