  1. Hi Ian, I'm very much enjoying building your cement van for a friend. I've just added the ribs and stuff on the two sides. The etch is beautifully designed and it's a joy to build; a fascinating prototype too. I particularly like the spare bits and pieces included, incredibly useful! Have you considered 7mm versions at all?

    Cheers

Another project just finished is this Paul Rolley IHA coil wagon. It's a resin kit with a small sheet of etches for the end details. The bogies are from SimonBRblue via Shapeway. It took a while and a few pots of paint to get the correct colour but I ended up with early NSE blue which look ok. Transfers are from Rail-Tec.

IMG_0380.JPGYou made a lovely job of this Brian, any tips on it's construction and finish? Did you tone down the texturing on the hood? Cheers Simon

  3. So, generally in 7mm scale the rules are; if you scratchbuild something, then someone will bring out a kit and if you build the kit, then someone may eventually bring out a ready to run version. So I'm just waiting for one of these to arrive as r-t-r. This version of "The Lady Armstrong" is built from the excellent new Alphagraphix kit, with some extra detailing and using Slaters spare wheel centres for the jackshaft. It makes up to be a very nice looking little loco, ideal for a minimum space layout.1088414046_P1120229(2).JPG.8f7aef0440a487654cbac43fd401ead4.JPG

  4. Thanks people for the kind words about my books and it's great that you're interested in scratch-building!

I have done a number of rather idiosyncratic Youtube videos introducing my scratch-building techniques in metal. It's a bit alarming to discover that they're 5 years old, and I do intend to carry on with them...sometime! The first one is here: I hope they might prove useful. Cheers Simon.

  5. Thanks for your replies; so a receiver has to have electric motor control for it to do what I want it to (12 locos is more than enough, thanks!).

So, the RCT-Rx65c receiver/controller would be OK?

    Cheers

  6. Does anyone have experience/recommendations/thoughts regarding RC Trains products? I was thinking of the Tx10 transmitter and RCT-Rx102 receiver for a small 7mm garden circuit and battery driven tank locos?

    Cheers

    Simon
