  1. The nearest that I have seen is a friend from our local club. The Crocodile smaller brother and only in 4mm though http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/103740-br-ex-lms-transformer-ma-wagon/ Ian is straying into 7mm at the recently with some coal hoppers, but I do keep asking if there is any chance of the Transformer wagon putting some weight on http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/127802-7mm-scale-br-huo-coal-hopper-diagram-1148/?st=0
  2. I have used double sided tape to fasten the plan down to some gash ply when building a point for a friend. He then carefully remove it from the board and fastened down, not sure what with though. The sleepers are fastened down with PVA
  3. Yeah I was amazed at the thickness of the sides, especially when it came to rolling the tumblehome. Two of these 12 Wheelers weigh as much as a Heljan diesel I do like the corridor ends, far nicer than just the paper ones. Also those springs look cracking in brass though the white metal ones on mine are of a fine standard
  4. ooh 2 car 108 Power Twin that would be interesting
  5. Intentio do some laser cut wood ones. They offer differing widths to cater for the different companies and also crossing timbers
  6. Cracking, just what the doctor ordered. Thanks Martin Read you note about final fettling, but we can do that
  7. Interesting observation. I just left it with waiting for the email that comes once packed and ready to pay. Maybe this is where it's all going wrong So if we had ordered and paid straight away we would all have our goodies by now ? I suspect I am thinking along the same lines as others. Here is our order, send us an email for payment as instructed if you want our business you will be in touch. No malice against the guy and we all want his business to thrive and supply us what we want
  8. This thread has inspired me to have a go at doing more on the 37 and David was right on using low melt as filler I remember back in the day, helping a friend repair his Morris Minor using fibreglass mat and body filler. To fit the windscreens on the 37 it looks like I might have to resort to similar methods
  9. That's excellent news, MMP loco kits about to be re-released. I keep reading about them and the quality, if it's anything like the coaching stock we are I for a treat
  10. Thanks Pete, that's another avenue to explore. I didn't know they supplied components
  11. Hi Ray I too have a Class 37 of the same stable and now regret it. It's now gone to the bottom of the pile and will be considered once I have completed my Gladiator Duchess. Whilst the Duchess is a steep learning curve at least it is a kit During my visit to Telford I was tempted to buy a body shell off a Heljan 37 for £100. I think that could be my fix rather than spend so much time trying to make something decent from the pieces that are supplied. If I can get the bogies to run half decent that will be something, but I have already resorted to a separate chassis made from brass bar for the current brass body to sit on This has been my biggest learning since being inspired by O Gauge
  12. I was going to look at using the slide chairs for the crossing over the weekend, as it could be a long wait until the Shapeways P&P charges come down. Was hoping to get enough stability in the crossing without having to resort to copper strip We have our exhibition at Holmfirth starting tomorrow so was trying to get some pieces together to leave on the club stand
  13. I went to order some sets of 1 in 6 crossing chairs from Shapeways this morning to finish the points off nicely. The check rail chairs are a quality addition, so I thought I would do the job properly £8.48 for a box containing a few grams of printed plastic to be posted . It was only 15p more for a 2 sets of crossing chairs. I checked my order for the check rail chairs and there was no postage charges, so I don't know what's going on here Anybody got any experience of ordering from them ?
  14. Which is not an issue with Intentio timbers as they are light coloured. It does mean that they have to be stained, but I will cross that bridge later Take a look at the 'Off the Rails' check rail chairs on Shapeways, as they come with 3 profiles so you get Left Right and centre. You have to put them on the right way around, but it sorts the gap as you can buy the ones with the gap that you require
  15. Intentio do laser cut crossing timbers in a number of widths and with the Peco plain and slide chairs on Marcway rail making points is cost effective. I did add some nice Shapeway check rail chairs which saves a lot of work I found a number of suppliers did only have one or two pack of chairs, but found another one and cleared them out in case there is a rush while C&L get back into gear A simple 1:8 is working out at £17 and a 3 way at £27, so well impressed. I might push the boat out and buy the crossing chairs from Shapeways, but that is only another £4 a crossing nose As a demo piece for the club or maybe a garage centrepiece I might finish the curved double junction that I have printed from Templot. Doing the sums that full setup will only cost £85 and that includes the check and crossing chairs from Shapeways. Already got a club member wanting to buy the 3 way I am building when all done
  16. We all want Phil to succeed as essentially the options are a bit limited from what I can see as a newcomer. I have no qualms about waiting for an order, if I know it's being dealt with As mentioned already by John it takes time to load and unload for exhibitions which means less time in the week to process orders. I don't envy Phil's life as it sounds like 7 days a week existence at the moment. I agree with Junctionmad that getting the mail order system working right is the priority as the product is well publicised already all over the forums In this day and age printing shapes is becoming more readily available both from bigger suppliers and the home market. I know a club member that is already looking at adapting Templot output to something that will print out the whole track formation on his array of 3D printers at home
  17. I was hoping that a dearth of orders might signify an issue with the website as it won't just be our three orders in limbo. Also trying to work out if this was the day job or just an extra, in which case the contact issues would be explained The plan is to visit the Manchester show in December and catch up with Phil as they are invited, but see he is booked to go to Reading. Might have to wait until April before he ventures North again
  18. I have two orders sitting there for a month now, but as it says until paid for the goods won't be sent. That sorts that out then, as essentailly I can't cancel my orders but if I don't pay .... So now crossing timbers from Intentio, chairs from Shapeways & Peco and rail from Marcway. Job done ! It might not be the bolt patterns that I had intended, but 10 yards of rail later the results are looking impressive Templot is a cracking piece of software and the choice of easily selectable templates makes that bit so easy. I haven't gone through the learning curve of the program, but with a bit of plagiarism there are quite a few interesting box files in the forum. Need to hit the Donate button over the weekend I think
  19. Hmm I might just get on with some soldering this weekend and get the sub-assemblies arranged for some photos. I must admit there are a few pieces that have come apart again and been re-done with a minimum of solder The build techniques are coming along and helped by this being a decent kit. One day I might be skilled enough to build the all brass Class 37 I bought the other year I must try your loading the frames with the axleboxes and filters before fitting, looks a good idea Oh also what are your thoughts on pickups, plunger or wiper ?
  20. Save you from getting relegated again Your build has been a great help and other than a major lot of soldering to do, I have most of the components bent and rolled ready. Not as daunting rolling the smokebox and the tender sides as I thought it would be Can I ask on your preferences for a motor/gearbox and a pickup system to go with it, as I too have the frame stretcher ready to spring out when the time comes
  21. Storming along nicely, you will be past my build stage on the tender by ths time next week When you come to your tender build could you linger a bit longer on the shaping of the sides and the hopper. Those look to be the hardest part and the most critical to the appearance. Checked my build this morning and I can see the things I am reading are working for me. The minimum amount of solder and done from the inside where possible and clean up. I did spend the dosh and bought one of those Solderpro jobbies and must say it is far better at getting the solder to flow than the 50W iron At this rate Dave won't have to re-write the instructions for this kit quite so soon, just add a link to your build in his addendum
  22. Perfect timing Peter, I also bought a Duchess off the Gladiator's at Donny. Funnily enough I was also planning on getting a Scorpio 9f over the Duchess, but Gladiator came North and Scorpio did not Your mention of supporting Dave & Trisha having taken over the Gladiator brand also resonated with me, which meant I spent my money directly with them rather a cheaper version via another trader a few stalls away. Also as much as the Finney7 duchess is the one to have it is beyond what I too am prepared to spend. Anyway for about the same I can have my Duchess and the 9f next Following Jazz's topics and most others, I have started on the tender first to get to feel for the kit. You highlighting the known issues with the firebox and smokebox is just what I needed and as others have said will save hours of head scratching. I don't know whether I will go to the length that you have of cutting and shutting the firebox, as by the time I get around to it Dave might have his promised improved version available My Duchess has been treated to some self contained buffers from Roxley which look nice. Whilst at Donny I also ordered some tender wheels from JPL as an alternative from the usual Slaters. Depending on how I get on with them the pan so far is to order the rest from JPL when I get that far So thanks again for posting this I will be using your build as an aid to the 'lesser gifted' modeller
  23. Just about to try one of those self builds out, but with safety in mind Most peoples 'go to' search engine suggests that a computer PSU can yield 5v at 20A for a short time (short being the optimum word here). So £4 spent on a foot switch to close the magic wires on the PSU, in lieu of the computer case power button. Just need to work out how to make the handpiece to hold the carbon electrode and then we can give it a go If it works it will be a bargain, but I am not holding my breath as I suspect the PSU could shutdown with too much use. Even if it can't do much it could be a good addition to the iron and the gas torch for different scenarios
  24. Yes green 503's. My Dad and I took the trip into the void a few times, got a right old lecture off the guard one of those times
