Thanks for the reply. I tracked Rob down and it turns out he lives 5 mins walk from my house, so will be sending him a few pictures and hopefully talking getting some hedgerow from him, along with some tips I can use myself.
Hope to see this again some time.

Saw this today and loved the layout and its running qualities. I'm going to avoid starting again but the curved backscenes combined with the depth of the modelled area did make me think about future layouts.
Just checking, but earlier in the thread it mentions the hedrows were supplied by Hedrow Scenics. Just checking as the text around that is a bit wierd in the post. I'm asking as i loved the look of them and think they would work well on my layout.
One other question having seen the layout in the flesh I am interested in the clean lines between roads, field and railway. Was that a design thing in your head or is adding it another of the many jobs?
Finally, Who does your weathering? I noticed a flier at the back and forgot to ask for one.

I'll play - Stoke Poges.
Golf club there used in films such as Goldfinger, Layer Cake & Bridget Jones Diary

Couple of thoughts.
1. How big is the fiddle yard going to be? With Old Oak Common there is a big sense of depth to the site, and a reasonable amount of track between the main lines and the first sheds. I am thinking maybe you keep the fiddle yard to 3 tracks a side using 3 way points for the fan to maximise the storage
2. What will be the scenic break at either end?
3. How many main line tracks? I guess with only 2ft you will have to keep to 2.
Now for the really important part. So is that why you got the job at Dapol, to develop the loco's you need for you own layout? Damn fine work if you can get it :-)

Can understand the need to scratch the golf itch as if you tried to play in December getting trench foot would have been possible. I hope to be scratching the itch myself in the morning. Just need to get up in time to get one of the early slots in the roll up.
Also, do you ever use golf to vent frustration? I find sometimes, just picturing the thing that is bugging you on the ball, and then smacking it as hard as I can a great release. Can't do that to a model or something not going right.

Your gonna love this one, but one of my kids asked if the radios worked? A challenge to far perhaps

Oh crap. Seeing the trees outside the semi is getting me thinking again about how well my home made tree's are coming together. On the other hand that is what this place is all about.
Love the story telling for the thread. On the buildings, just how much dry brushing was involved to get to that look? Was it a basioc was to get the mortar in, and the the bricks dry brished?

RMweb for distracting me from modelling. (Not sure it counts so much at work)
I am another sausage finger sufferer so anything related to manipualting small parts
That thought that occurs having built something I thought was good, and then thinking of another and better way to try it which means this version is now junk.
Time - Why does it go so quickly when modelling and so slowly at other times?
Truthfully though my biggest challenge is my own lack of patience which means I rush things some times only to then get really cross with myself as I know I could have done better.

Been wondering if this applies. When you move from buying ready made to a kit, from a kit to adapting a kit, from adapting a kit to building yourself, etc.
I'm some where on that path and would consider as my approach is some where on that path.

Definite interest, plus looking at the girder that has been created, i'm wondering if Iain is related to Mr Heggs of this fine forum :-)

Does being woken up at 3:30 in the morning by a 5 year old with the question "Daddy, have you found my lego stormtrooper?" qualify me as an early riser?

Steam - I'm another Castle fan. Simple lines and no extra pipes needed that look like they were added on after the engine had been built.
Diesel - Its really close between 33, Western and Hymek, but for me the Hymek gets it just because it was the first engine I ever owned as a kid.

Putting something on RMweb that others look at, and provide feedback on.
Apart from that, just getting out to the shed and enjoying the time spent what ever i'm doing.

Love the simplicty of what you have created (and your Dad's layout a few pages back). Enjoy running your trains. In fact i'm sure some posts about how you find it to operate would go down well.
Out of interest, something that i'm sure a lot of people on here would be interested in is a more step by step guide to how you do your buildings, so if and when you do one of the dioramas have a think about that.

This man must be stopped. He puts us all to shame
On a more serious note, what thickness card are you using? I am mocking up some buildings at the moment but still struggling to settle on the actual card to use for the final models. I have mount board which always seems to thick and a pile of card from the backs of A4 note pads which seems just slightly to bendy.
Look forward to seeing this leap forward again once the work chaos of the coming months has subsided.

I can do 2 out of 3, only because the pile of choices for the 3rd layout is still to big.
1. Totnes. I saw this yesterday and it is a beautifully crafted layout with both large area's of countryside and then the station placed into the location. Just beautiful.
2. I'm another Buckingham fan.
3. One day I will be able to work this out, but not yet.

Am I right in thinking another part of the equation is that the stock is now leased rather than owned?

Jealous. Where I play they only give vouchers back that have to be spent at the club rather than converting to railway currency.
With your point test, have you ever come close to not catching them which may be a problem with the current state of the boards and the drop of doom at the end or is there a fair amount of room between the points and the end of the board?
