  1. I am modelling a slightly compressed version of Hemerdon Sidings at the top of Hemerdon Bank.

Its an N gauge model set in the late 60s after diesel has taken over the line, with a second era of the mid 70's as the westerns are phased out and the HSTs come in, but getting the stock for that will take some time. The model area is around 9ft long and 17 inches wide on an overall baseboard of 11ft 8in by 2ft 6in.

Its my second attempt at a real location after an incomplete attempt for the challenge layout to produce Alvescot on the old Fairford branch line.

So far all my research has been done on the web, but I do hope to visit the site over the summer.

  2. In the spirit of your comment that nearly everything you have learned has come from forums such as this, I have pinched an idea from you. I think it may have been on the old forum you posted about the development of the Semis which showed how you had built the land around the semi and could just drop the building. So I am trying that by having laid a 2mm piece of card on my layout, but cut out the footprint of each building.

Also, i may have to make a visit to the 4D Modelshop when time comes to plant the trees on my layout as they have a good range.

    I'll keep watching this develop.

  3. I remember Queens Park fairly well. Amazing as it was a friends Stag do that took us to Bournemouth to play golf. I prefer Meyrick Park though. Not that long but has bags of charachter. I must get down there at some point to play it again.

  4. David. One thought that springs to mind that the mockups have not explore is the fiddle yard operation. With this plan you will be shunting trains in and out before they run. Have you thought about building a cassette system instead and just being able to pickup and drop the train of choice in?

As far as the methods for exploring a layout, a great start and something I can learn from.

  5. Thanks for posting.

Roll on the phone call from Alton Model Centre to say its arrived. Out of interest, did you order any extra coaches as well? Just wondering what the rake together looks like?

    Thanks

    Steve

  6. I ask about whether it was released, and got the answer of around March because the lights are not right yet. I held one of the motorised samples and its a good weighty model.

Whilst the blue/grey is what I would like for my layout, I have to say the Grand Central livery looked fantastic.

  7. Ahh, patience. The death of many of my models in the past because I want to do it NOW!!!

Looking at that picture Dave I also wonder how different it will look when the banks have their scenic coverings applied because at the moment you have the brown of the river against the brown ground cover.

  8. Thanks for that. I'll let you know how I get on. Just debating whether to start on the wiring. I may also have a go at your platform technique so I feel a google search for Plastikote Suede coming on later rather than card with a scalescenes paper covering.

  9. Dave

I have been following this thread watching this develop and am happy to say I pinched the PVA and kitchen towel method from here, and will shortly be using a bit of "burnt umber" to cover the base of my scenic areas as well.

The question this all leads to is back on page 2 you mentioned you used a variety of puffer bottles when applying the static grass, and I am interested in the variety. I have a noch puffer bottle which seems to work OK. Before I attack Alvescott I am planning to build a little area off the layout as a test bed so any tips I you can provide greatly received.

Also, whilst I am asking, what did you use for your platform surface? Apologies if I missed this.

  10. I am more than happy with Giggs getting the award. Rooney cannot do what he does without Giggs, and to often one player is held up as more that the other 10 players on a football pitch. I think being consistently outstanding for 15 years does earn him this award, rather than waiting for a life time achievement award.

By the way I am not a Utd fan, and I think from a sportingpoint of view then David Haye is the man as he litterally did beat Goliath and he has by far the biggest personality.
