What a lovely scene, John. That bridge is so iconic too, I instantly recognised it a few days ago, whilst watching an episode of 'Canal Boat Diaries' featuring Robbie Cumming, that we had recorded.

That's a very good series, very enjoyable viewing.

I was just watching a series about "The Man Who Became Cary Grant". The "boyhood" scenes were apparently filmed in Liverpool, there being so little remaining of 1900s Bristol.

Considering how little there is of 1900s Liverpool still standing, that's fairly saying something.

I tried to find the Peckett works once, with no success.

Mind you, last time I was in Fishpool it was more like Mogadishu.

Cary Grant's mum used to live in the same road as my Gran. A few doors down from my Gran and a few doors up from where Robin W (Barrow Road of this parish) lived when he was a lad.

Really lovely, John. So instantly recognisable to anyone with a hint of knowledge of the area.

But those warehouses are no longer mock-ups, surely??!!

The mock ups were sturdily built with a double skin of mounting board suitably braced internally. They had survived for several years without any distortion so I merely clad them with panels made up from embossed styrene sheet. Sounds simple but there was almost as much work as if I had started from scratch. I did take some pics on my phone during the building process so at some point I will download and post some to show how it was done.

The Forestry Commission in the FoD swept away a lot of Wye-Dean industrial archaeology in the name of H&S? Marsh Wharf may have been lost in this same brutal cull?

They are also threatening to drain Cannop Ponds.

    (Bassaleg, I think)

Was Bassaleg a sub shed? Back in 1962 I did a tour of all the sheds in South Wales but not Bassaleg. As I was staying with a work colleague of my fathers in Bassaleg as a base for day trips, that was a bit strange. Anything reasonably close I did on my bike, the friend drove me round the others in an old VW campervan.

Hee hee I expected you to plead that the vinegar branch is prototypically connected to the engine shed John. That is a super recreation of an iconic railway feature….

As for my layout did you see the photos in the layout thread Here . Nowhere near as advanced as yours but coming along…. Weather hasn’t been good enough to get outside lately and even more worrying I have been drawn in to helping/advising with another layout based on Wadborough and Pirton Sidings … the next box down from Abbotswood . It’s all Hornbys fault… their All Saints church is based on Pirton church, apparently every clerical member of the diocese has the model and they want a layout to display it on in time for a historic buildings festival in September. A 12 x 6 roundy roundy with push button public operation is on the cards….

You obviously need a bigger house Phil!! The layout is looking good so far.

Can we assume that the roundy roundy with lots of Pirton churches on it will be appearing in the next series of the Hornby show. Hee hee!!!

Shrub Hill road Worcester on the vinegar branch. See The Vinegar Branch Worcester.

Unfortunately Mr Killybegs will get a form 1 for sending a large tank loco down the branch … nothing heavier than a 16xx pannier allowed. A 204 hp shunter was allegedly tried but got stuck…

    Very nicely modelled there!

Now, now Phil, as you well know, its only based on the Shrub Hill Road crossing. On Worseter (not Worcester) the crossing is on the line that serves Worseter MPD. I am lead to believe that there is photographic evidence that a 9F appeared on shed on one occasion. There must have been a lot of wheel squealing on the tight curves!

By the way, how's your layout coming along?
