I think most people have been through a similar thing to you at some point. I found myself getting frustrated. I then found rmweb and became inspired by the 'less is more' approach used by many.
Although you may wish to cram as much in as you can, don't. I've gained much more enjoyment from a simpler but more realistic layout than I ever did from a layout full of track.

What about SEEP? They have a latching version, which I believe is PM4?

Tom, this sounds like a superb little project. The outcome should result in an attractive model.

This looks excellent. I'm looking forward to seeing this progress.

Have you tried BR Lines for the coach roof?

I'm sure the EE name disappeared in the late 60's, so I think it's unlikely that 'sharon' was built by them in 1970. Could it have been built earlier? I can just see it mentions a 1970 build date in the book. A quick internet search only really brought up wikipedia's website of twisted truths, and this suggested the EE name being lost in 1968?
Irritating!

Richard, would it not be possible to cut the relevant rail with a fine saw and then fill the small gap with epoxy resin to prevent expansion? It might be easier than trying to fit insulating fishplates.
