  1. Is that the standard Farish 0-6-0 chassis with adornments then?

The body looks 100 times better already stripped back, I think with a wee bit work you could turn that ugly ducking into something quite worthwhile actually.

Some N-brass handrails and knobs would be a huge leap forward as well if you can be bothered with the strain on your eyesight.

I done a Foxhunter A1 kit recently and whilst it was a fiddle it was worth it.

  2. And expensive...

I already had the J39 and Ivatt on order and recently a 26 was added too but now how am I going to resist a "Lemberg" in final condition? Ok yes admittedly I would have preferred it to have been a "Prince Palatine", "Spearmint" or "Salmon Trout" with cabside stripe but that is probably just me being ungrateful!

An A2 too though? That was a rumour I hadn't heard....it's enough to send my wallet into complete meltdown...

    Happy days...

    Roy

    I

Roy I have all 3 in Farish format, just check page 1 of this thread although '41 is chassis-less and smokebox less at the moment, but renamed renumbered

I was considering selling them (PM me if you have an interest) although I think I'll hold out for Farish to do the A3 and A4 replacements, not that I know anything, but I've just got a feeling they will try and recoup the investment from producing the 4 wheel tender drive at some point. I think I heard mutterings that Farish might have a few surprises up their sleeves so maybe its just that. Similar to the Farish/Dapol B1 scenario.

As much as Dapol are to be congratulated I'm just not a fan of having a large driveshaft between cab and tender.

    :offtopic:

Sorry folks...bit of topic...but Dapol related...

Thanks Steven for the detailed instructions...I did it this morning and whilst I couldn't get the light cluster back in on the driving end, it all works and I now have my RR set powered using another by swapping the chassis...of course the RR 156 is now available again so I could have just sat it out!

    Back on 26's...

I am in the process of completing my TPM class 26/1 which will have the disc codes...it already looks good placed next to the Dapol one.

Can I ask whose disc codes you use? I assume being TPM it came with the TPM ones themselves? are they nice and fine?

Just that I am coincidentally online this morning to try and obtain a set for a class 44, with a view to doing my 26 as and when it arrives?

  4.

I willl, or rather Ian of Mercig Studios will. I'm having the centre code boxes of a 'Royal Artillaryman' body converted to split boxes, which to be honest is a bit beyond my modelling skills.

I've asked him to super detail one end, add a driver, narrow the bogies renumber and mucky her up. I understand he's working on it right now, I'll post piccies when it arrives.

    Cheers

    Dave.

Complete coincidence but I just narrowed a D163 over the weekend and had previously detailed one end. I also change the route indicator boxes to WR specials at both ends.

    I'll post mines as well.

  5. ....... I desperately need a name for my layout before I do I suppose.

Don't know if its intended but the pictures you've posted really really remind me of Carstairs for some reason, I guess its the blue 26 and OHLE although I don't suppose 001 would have been down there all that often. I must have saw 001 a thousand miles on the Cockenzie MGR loop.

  6. Lovely stuff, it really emphasises the benefit of doing the space framed board (is that the right terminology). The landscape really looks like a landscape, rather than something based around a flat piece of wood.

Keep taking your time and getting the landscape right as so far its more than paid dividends. The one huge benefit of N, other than the now ever improving stock quality, was always the 'trains in the landscape' appeal and you've used it to its full benefit here. I think the danger though is that sometimes its tempting to cram as many additional sidings and branches etc and you end up cramming the space. Definitely not the case here.

  7.

    Finally resistance has crumbled.

Having spent about three hundred quid on building a new layout and over £200 on a pair of those rather lovely Farish A1's I had said "no more" for a bit, However such has been the feedback on this lovely little 26 I have now preordered a BR Green one:-)

Just a shame it will not be here till Warley ish, but from the looks of things it will be well worth the wait!

    Roy

Well done Roy, resistance is futile.

If its not here for another good few weeks then gives you a chance to put some pennys in the penny jar :-) before then.

  8. Hi,

ND-145D 26007 Coal sector went out to stockists who ordered yesterday (05.10.11).

Green and red stripe (Which both look superb IMHO) are out for Warley next month if not slightly before.

    cheers

    Dave

    Thanks Dave, good to know.

  9. Roy

Don't know if you'd be interested but Scalescenes do a printable sheet of station name board which allows you to configure the name you want printed.

Really nice item and only a few pounds from memory, and can be printed as many times as you like with as many different names.

I used them in N gauge and it worked quite nicely

  10. I think so, they look quite big on the prototype too.

    http://www.mwwilson...._psg_011985.jpg

Hard to compare without shots at the same angle etc but the Dapol one looks about on the money to this sassenach.

I do believe depending on where the particular loco was overhauled then the numbers could be bigger, however from personal memory I don't remember them being as chunky as all that. I used to see blue 26s at Millerhill as a matter of course. 26001-26006 in particular with the slow speed control for Cockenzie but it will have been 20 years perhaps since I saw one in the flesh!

As Stu says, if that's the only problem then we can easily live with or amend ourselves to suit.

  11. Wow, that last post worth of photos was just superb.

If you ever get a chance you might like to try and use weathering powders onto your paper structures. It does work quite nicely and just takes the edge off the printed brick colour and overall uniform tone of the brickwork.

I tend to brush blacks and browns into corners and crevices.

Worth practising first before you ruin any of these superb structures you've made. They really are superb.

  12. Hi Dave,

Great news on the house, I remember seeing the APT once yours looks great, is the power unit the standard Ringfield unit? you can get a five pole one that will work better I have one in an old class 25 and it runs ok. What about looking at a railroad power unit from a 73 or 33, it might fit.

Haymarket depot would look great, And thanks for the memories Millerhillboy I remember the smell of hops from the brewery at Haymarket station too.

Hope you like the pic. :locomotive:

    Cheers Peter.

Oh yes, we do like that picture.

Smell of hops is still there, although it doesn't have the same effect from a 334 :-(

  13. Pete

Thanks for posting, looks good doesn't it.

One thing those numerals do look 'quite' big, is that supposed to be a 'Glasgow' works numbering job. Maybe they don't look so big in the flesh.

  14. Good news RE the new home Dave, I know it'll be a while off but I for one can't wait to see what you decide to do.

A full scale HA would be damn nice, but equally so would the gardens I have to say.

If you do HA will you model the smell of hops from the brewery. Always reminds me to this day as I bowl into work, shame the rows of 26/27s, 47s, 20s etc etc have been replaced by 158/170s and not much more.

  15. Lovely stuff Simon, the scenery looks and feels just right

Russell H told me to look here, and it was certainly worth the jump over. I take it all your locos are good runners then ;-)

Good luck with the railway modeller as well, will need to look out specially for that issue.

    cheers

    CJ
