See my blog here for further details https://grahammuz.com/2015/11/26/Hornby-announce-full-2016-range-and-the-addition-of-an-sr-cattle-wagon/

    Very informative thank you.

Seams a strange that Hornby are producing 3 coaches out of 4 as brakes. I may well be sending 1 or 2 of my order of 4 green ones back at this rate.

  2. Really looking forward to this coach.

I wonder if we might be lucky enough to get any other LMR coaches to match (livery), as l'd love to make a short train up. Expect if the initial coach sells well we could be lucky!

Were there ever any LMR livered/lettered freight vehicles? If so these would be great also, even just a brake van and a couple of plank wagons.

  3. Ordered 74 010 today :imsohappy:  ...........only one small problem i can foresee, how in hell's bell's name do i expain two Class 74's arriving on the doorstep to the 'boss' ? :scratchhead: (she only know's about one 74 i bought, the other one she doesn't know about, she might have a mental fit if she finds out)

If you don't fancy :punish: you need to search the net to find examples of Class 74's working double headed or top & tail!   lol :mosking:

  4. Kilmersdon is indeed very fetching in Prussian blue. In a statistical dead heat with a GWR livery, that 'preserved S&DJR' livery for Kilmersdon would certainly be my choice.

I'm keen on that six-wheeled coach it drags around as well. Another nice shot of them both here.

Really hoping Hornby go ahead with this one in SDJR. surely a winner on sales! May a Ltd Edn.

Alas I think the odds on getting RTR SDJR stock are a lot longer, though it is a good time to back outsiders 'Leicester City' 'Danny Willett' etc. or maybe you think 'Donald Trump' as President is more likely!?!  :superstition:  :jester:  :O  :banghead:

  5. Nobody likes paying higher prices (me included), but in basic economic terms it boils down to elasticity of demand.

What the market will bare and the price curve against volumes sold.

Perceived unusual items may have a higher price elasticity as folks might be prepared to pay more for them. I suspect for reworked items that elasticity is lower as folks make do with what they have, buy second hand, (or enhance with added detail) instead of fork out for a newer version at what they perceive to be an inflated price.

Disposable income tends to be fixed (though some may borrow more now and pay back later with their future disposable income). People can only spend so much on modelling and buying higher priced items mean they are not buying other things - only so much cake to go round and every model even from the same manufacturer is competing for it's slice of that cake.

Then we come to economies of scale - some costs will be fixed for the manufacture (design, tooling etc) and some variable depending on numbers made (such as production labour costs, raw material costs etc) Manufactures have to balance the volumes produced against these fixed and variable costs while they seek to maximise profits and take into account the elasticity of demand. This can is a difficult balancing act - the more you produce the lower the unit cost and vice versa. As others have mentioned, Bachmann may be trying to test the market strength and depth / elasticity.

For me my elasticity of demand increase if it is something I really want - though I wouldn't stretch to a FIA trains LMS twin - I did go for a Rails one. I am however going for a sound fitted Rapido APT-E.

With coaches I want to run full rakes (maybe not prototypical but I am more than a bit OCD and it is what I want and I do sometimes apply rule one), therefore if a company produces a nice rake and includes a buffet/restaurant car full brake etc. I am much more likely to by the full set. This is where I see manufactures having to look further than just the sales of a buffet vehicle alone as see that producing a coach like that can actually grow the market for the entire range of a given coach (I do hope they read this).

Anyway - we all have our own opinions and it is good to share them on here and respect others views even if we can't all be right!

  6. Got my Heljan model 05 'D2578' - a little gem indeed.

However I have come across a potential issue and wondered if anyone else has noticed (DCC).

Tested three chips on my ECoS and ESU decoder tester all of which ok: Gaugemaster DCC23 & DCC28 + Bachmann 36-554RA so happy they are working correctly. Tried them all in the 05 with the bonnet and cab off and got the same result - loco runs lovely, rear cab lights bright, nose lights incredibly dim to the point of being hardly noticeable even in a totally dark room.

I was going to send the loco back to Liverpool but looking on Youtube at a review, though it is hard to tell on a video clip it appeared to be the same as on my model with the nose lights very very dim indeed.

Has anyone tried their new 05 on DCC and either found similar or otherwise please?

    Many thanks!

    Simon

  7. L1 would be bound to be a winner.   :victory:

Something Caledonian in that lovely eye catching livery.  :blackeye:

43xx - GWR   (Bachmann split chassis well passed it's day)

    RTR Bullion Van

    Dynamometer - LNER

RTR Dancehall Brake Van - SECR

How about that for a diverse set of suggestions - any takers?   :picknose:

  8. I am using ECoS and Peco under board motors.

I have tried re-addressing the cobalt decoder and also deleting the point from the ECoS and assigning a new different one, both to no avail.

The present issue I am experiencing is that one of the outputs is constantly pulsing. This despite it being set as a 'toggle' on the ECoS.

Very strange but I don't want to risk a motor burning out, or worse still overheating on a motor or the Cobalt point decoder and catching fire.

I think it must be a faulty capacitor - going to send it back to the supplier for a replacement next week.

  9. Desperately hope no headlight or orange cantrail stripe on BR Blue Tops ones or even just one of them.

These things are easy to fit should anyone wish to do so if not present on a model, but so very much harder to remove if already there.

Will have to cancel my order if they are there so fingers crossed they're not!

  10. Well I am looking forward to Hornby's latest incarnation of the Pullmans very much.

That will give me a full rake of each of:

    Hornby Matchboard with white roofs

    Hornby Steel with Grey roofs

    Hornby Twelve Wheelers

    Bachmann Metro-Camm Mk1's (Cream & Umber)

    Not to mention:

    Bachman Blue Pullman (Blue Nose)

    Hornby Brighton Belle (Blue-Grey)

    Hornby Observation Car

    Hornby Churchill BG

I think I might be able to muster dedicated Pullman running days once the layout is complete!

Now - what locos can I possible find on shed to haul that lot?    Suggestions on a postcard please.  :mail:   :locomotive:

  11. Just noticed that the Bachmann website is showing a new bus in D of E and MM livery - maybe suitable for a depot, works or even RTC application, or of course on any road.

Never seen anything like this before - very unusual to my eye and defo a must for my RTC depot.

Looks like a well know Sheffield retail has them at £31.88 - mine is already ordered.

Sorry if this is mention elsewhere on RM Web!

  12. Well, I am still waiting for mine [Caerphilly Castle] from a certain South Yorkshire supplier.

Apparently more stock expected in 20.5.15 - I do hope so, as I wouldn't want to find I have missed the boat by acting on any inaccurate info from said supplier (though I appreciate that they are themselves only passing on info from their supplier ie. the manufacturer).

Anyway - fingers crossed it gets from China to South Yorkshire and on to me in North Yorkshire pronto!

  13. Well I know we are not likely to get another Pullman offered from our Barwell friends anytime soon but just a little food for thought!

I well recall that a Blue Pullman was not likely either, before the first announcement.

I for one would buy another if I could get a reverse liveried one in grey-blue with jumpers - though do expect to pay a pretty penny!

Just wonder if one day we might get a surprise announcement - you never know!

  14. Same here (re: D865) - email saying £115 but my account still showing pre-order at £76.46 so keeping fingers crossed, price was honoured by the same retailer last year when similar increases were showed for 40141 - think mine arrived for £62.00!

    Really looking forward to my BR Blue pre-orders too: 24137, 25286, & 45036 (today notified Oct-Nov15 @ £80.71).

Layout starting to take shape, hope I have a full circuit to run them on by year's end!

  15. Just a thought - and I may be a daft one - might I be able to swap the light bar from the Hornby MK3 into the Hornby MK2E (or even older MK2D for that matter), to make a convincing fully lit coach, or would it still be a case of the light bar being too short?

  16. Yes - for those of us not blessed with airbrush prowess the planned Mk2D BSO (Blue-Grey) is missing from that range.

I will be very disappointed if it does not surface (to complete my Mk2D Blue-Grey rake) - though not surprised!
