2021 hopes
in Hornby
7 hours ago, Downer said:Interesting that this thread is roughly 75-25 diesel/electric over steam when Hornby’s priorities are usually the reverse of that. A sign of the times, perhaps.
It doest matter - Hornby's announcement will still be 99% Steam 1% Railroad Diesel .....

Hi there - wonder if you can help or offer some alternatives .....
I've ran out of Railmatch Silver white which I use for the lower bodyside on Inter City Swallow livery ... cant seem to find it anywhere ...
Does anyone know of any alternatives ??

Mixed day here, at 6.30 this morning greeted by this ....
Great for Xmas cards but meant the workshop was very chilly so not ideal for painting. Cracked on with the DMU duo with the light weight getting new destination blinds and the early lion and wheels.
The destinations were not easy as the boxes and old destinations are printed in reverse so had to remove that bit but leave the surround which is brown and then put the decal on the outside to give the appearance of the box
The 101 has had the black cab surrounds added, buffer beams from red back to black, detail packs added and dummy headlights painted- these are just tacked on at the mo to match the paint so will be properly fixed tomorrow with their lenses added when I do the destinations. Silver window frame added to the drivers window then put it all back together so on the way
last up as I could get some heat up was a respray of the silver on the pretendalino DVT where the virgin branding had been removed. As just about the worst colour to a) match and b) spray I was really pleased with how this came out
Thats it for today, hopefully snow free tomorrow!
Well you can send the snow here if you like ......
Great work as always Jerry - hope the workshop warms up soon .....

Hi Ben, I think I just beat you to the paint but had to chuckle when I saw you had one too! Mine wasn't going to be Freightliner originally as it was a spare shell and I couldn't decide what to do with it but someone suggested it on the 90 forum. It's going to be 046 without the bodyside branding.... when I eventually get round to it. Happy painting Cheers Jerry
Aha .... ironically I've got 2 of 041 to do ..... weird how its seems not only us doing the same things but people also after the same things .....

Hi everyone - hope you're all keeping safe and well during these difficult times ....
Just a quick message of thanks to everyone who has commissioned me to do some work for them this year and I am well and truly grateful for all your support.
As always, I am available for all your Respray, Renumbering and Weathering requests in all gauges from N through to O Gauge.
I specialise in Diesel and Electric from BR Green though to the latest contemporary liveries.
Stay safe and look forward to hearing from you soon.

Would have been interested if the DRS 57 was in the current fade away livery but then I guess even that is becoming obsolete now as they are hiring out their 57s ..... such a shame as another open goal missed .... makes you wonder if this livery is hard to replicate as no-one aside from Accurascale on their forthcoming 37/6 has attempted it ......
With regards to the rest - still no new 90s ..... makes me happy - more for me to respray over the winter months .......

Its just their usual re-released old Lima looking rubbish ........

Hope im wrong .... would be really nice to finish off the year with some uplifting news but sadly it seems Bachmann have taken their eyes off the prize this year ... yes, I know they were catching up but still, they've allowed companies such as Accurascale and Cavalex to steal a march on them .......
Still, lets be positive and see what Tuesday brings .......

I always get the impression the EWS era isn’t that popular right now ( it is for me !), BR blue is , as old farts like me reminisce about being 10, and the modern stuff ( post say 2010 )is because of younger modellers , of which there seems quite a few.
Watch it - I like BR Blue and im an old Fart (46) ,...... and I reminisce about being 10 ...... oh

I bought the Freightliner Powerhaul one as it was the nearest configuration to be repainted into DB, which it was, and became DB Blue 90034. Following on from that, i was able to acquire classmate 90028 in DB red Sir William McAlpine and it went from there.
Actually another one with regards to picking models to produce...... the jumper cables on 90037 model - never seen these on any Class 90s - well certainly not those running today ....... but please, I haven't looked at every class 90 so I assume they are correct for some locos but not seen any when researching .....

Loving the attempt at a blatant plug but don't blame you for trying. Even after postage and commisioning by yourself or others I don't doubt that the price might be the same as the next Bachmann batch which I think will still be next year. Some of the work that I see from those that do resprays (yourself included) is great, but perhaps some noticeable discrepancies like the application of a cantrail stripe might give people pause for concern before parting with their cash and thus wait for Bachmann after all.
Again however, the point about liveries was jumped on when instead my point was on how Bachmann are putting out releases and not always well judging what people want, or by the level of product they offer - when they could change, release more and get a better and faster return. Which right now would be great for any model company...
But hey ho... lets all keep going with the livery froth.Didn't see it that way and certainly wasn't a blatant attempt at a plug ..... but now you mention it ........
Well cant speak for Jerry but my costing for a respray and providing a donor model would be nowhere near £300 ........
Couldn't agree more that they don't listen to people about liveries ........ love to be a fly on the wall in their marketing meetings .........

I think that's as Bachmann mainly go on a best guess approach when it comes to releases and liveries. They look and decide what they think its wanted and then release, knowing that most people will go for a new model and eventually it will be sold. Very popular ones happen but some more skew choices remain for a while longer. You can think its building up demand, but then it equally just a case of they missed it this time and then do it as a follow up release later. Bachmann also go for older liveries and then newer ones on a rotational basis - which has certainly happened in releases of class 47's and 37s - so I can see there being two newer ones and one older one next, or revert back to 3 new, 3 old. Bachman also fail to notice that several sectors of the market can be tapped with multiple releases of the same model as it covers a longer time frame or regional basis. You could easily have planted in EWS alongside the pervious release or something more recent such as DB Red as those modelling DB probably wont want Rfd. However, the crux of the problem seems to be the prevailing idea that Bachmann knows best and apparently we must accept that.
Popular next liveries for the class 90 I would go for most would be: RES, EWS, Freightliner standard Green and yellow.Even if they announce so me new liveries - will still take another 3 years to appear on the shelves at probably near to £300 !!!
Much cheaper to chat to Jerry or myself for a respray .......

Hi Jerry, I was originally going to do that for my next DB90 in an ex-EWS DB style just like what 90037 was like but with a fictitious nameplate for my depot Johnson Street IEMD instead of Crewe locomotive works but in the same red style ... but I think Ben struggled to get the numbers sorted. It's still my intention to do something similar to that maybe with an rfd 90 as db do still have several, one if which was due to be reinstated to traffic and this was 90027 which is in really tired rfd/EWS triple grey at present in the Long term sidings at crewe. I actually have some faded 90 decals on ebay at the moment for 90020 and 90039 which may be applicable somehow.
Kind regards
Kat
Still in the possible category and have ordered the nameplates for Johnson Street ...........

Well, surely, that would be a case of liasing with a man with a plan @cambo74 ... to take 90005 and renumber it to 90001 or 90002 - a simple numeric change ...
Simple to do ...... let me know

Well Everyone its that time of year again ..... Going to be a bit different for a lot of people this year ........
The workbench has been packed away and I just want to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for your support this year in what has been a difficult year for everyone in so many ways.....
Bens Resprays has now been going for just over 3 years and business continues to grow year on year and as I've said, I couldn't do it without your business and all of your kind and encouraging words ......
So thank you all, I will still be contactable over the break and of course happy to chat about any commission in progress and also any new ones you may have in mind for 2021.
So remember, its hopefully only this Christmas that will be a bit different - stay safe and stick to the rules and I'm sure 2021 will be a better year for all of us.
All the best.
