Some resorts run their own ABTA type guarantee schemes. I don't know which or how they work though.

Hang on - as long as you didn't pay by 'friends and family', don't you have a claim against PayPal? As the 'goods/services' you paid for through them isn't going to be delivered. Just a thought.
