Was advised today that the cause of a almost flat battery on my car is the "Smart" technology that it has fitted. Apparently this stops the alternator from spending too long charging the battery because that saves fuel. This happens even when the charge is low owing to short journeys. Smart? PAH!

Jintyman Our 2004 Vectra was not worth repairing in 2012 when the clutch failed, we did repair it, then the cam belt broke. My current chariot, although it does have an ECU, it is in its simplest form, and it had a tape player until I changed it for a Bluetooth unit for phone use. I work in commercial sales and the cost of some of this emission based electronic gizmo's to replace is getting out of control. Yet they create more problems than benefits in some cases.
