About highpeakman

Profile Information

  • Location
Close to the GN & GE Joint Rly north of Lincoln.
  • Interests
Very broad interests but perhaps focused more on BR Midland - Derbyshire, Notts and Lincs areas in late 50s/60s - Wirksworth, Buxton, Cromford & High Peak in particular - Also GC Main Line around Nottingham + any Industrial railways (NG and Standard). Old enough to remember C&HP in working order, Trent Junction Station, Derby Works in full flow, Windcutters at Nottm Victoria, prototype Deltic at Grantham and a few other things I miss.A believer in modelling to capture the feeling/atmosphere of the time/prototype even if some details are not correct and of the right to run what I like.

  1. Was advised today that the cause of a almost flat battery on my car is the "Smart" technology that it has fitted. Apparently this stops the alternator from spending too long charging the battery because that saves fuel. This happens even when the charge is low owing to short journeys. Smart? PAH!

Never a true'er word said. No chance my car being written off by electronics.. it still has a Tapecassette, manual windows and features an "automatic choke"

Jintyman Our 2004 Vectra was not worth repairing in 2012 when the clutch failed, we did repair it, then the cam belt broke. The alternator thing is a fiddle to get it through the Euro emissions bunkum which mean super efficient 2017 diesels do 60% of the MPG 1980s 2 litre Montego Diesel Estates managed

My current chariot, although it does have an ECU, it is in its simplest form, and it had a tape player until I changed it for a Bluetooth unit for phone use. I work in commercial sales and the cost of some of this emission based electronic gizmo's to replace is getting out of control. Yet they create more problems than benefits in some cases.
