  1. BTY I have used a Masokits front bogie with Comet sides, Still the support bearings on the outside to add
  2. Some more pictures Overview showing the Continuos Springy Beam Front end showing the drive to the internal valve gear Motor drive set up
  3. Mashima with a hi level 50:1 Load hauler gearbox on the centre driver, will post more pictures soon
  4. chassis running on ultrascale P4 wheels. For the next one I will reduce the thickness of the slidebars from 4 layers to 3 layers to improve the clearence , it's very tight in P4 Need to sort the steam pipes before attaching the boiler assembly to the footplate.
  5. Hi Michael If you can make a mould for the chimney that would be great, I'll have two to start with, one for 6205 and one for the revised etch when it's ready. Thanks Phil
  6. Thanks Michael for this, What I would like to see is how you make the steam pipes please
  7. Steam pipes Michael they would be really useful, they look a b*****r to make.
  8. Hi Micheal - wish list For me and I think for a few others we would like to see the bits that we cannot get elsewhere - castings:- Chimney (yes I know there are two versions) Smokebox front The lumps on the firebox Dome Rear trailing spring and axle box backhead castings above the bogie (could be built from an etch) etches The box cover over the expansion link extending the front 'piano'cover further back under the smokebox the other set of reversing rods (can't remember which set is on the etch which I don't have to hand at the moment) Doors under the firebox above the rear frames Also a drawing of the first (shorter) firebox and boiler (Longer) When I find a way to upload a photo I will. so far have a running chassis and building the 6205 valve gear atm. One interesting fact that I have discovered is that most published accounts say that the reversing gear was modified on 6205 at the same time as the valve gear. published photos (wild Swan books) show the new valve gear with the existing reversing gear ('splasher' like form over the link to the reversing arm) but later photo's show this was changed and a straigher reversing rod fitted and the 'splasher' removed. any idea when this took place. I am building mine circa 1947 philbax Philbax
  9. Hi Prior to 1952 the front frames had two diamond shaped holes abpve the bogie to allow accomodate the flanges of the inside cylinder bye-pass valves which were never fitted. The Micheal Edge etch has these as a half etch on the frames which can be left as is for post 1952 and opened out for the original frames Philbax
  10. by that time the long firebox was the normal one, IIRC the longer wheelbase was due to the hopper ash pan, this also resulted in a longer smokebox. I thought that the longer wheelbase was because of the use of roller bearings. The boiler and firebox were standard and the extra length resulted in a longer smokebox. Once the longer frames were introduced then all subsequent locos had the same frames whether they had roller bearings or not Philbax
  11. Dome from the scrap box I'm afraid, I don't know where it came from unless it was an old 'k's' kit. For the chimney I have an old Jamison chimney which with a bit of work could past muster. Don't you wonder sometimes why you keep boxes of seamingly useless bits! Philbax
  12. Hi Just got mine to move under power!! Building 6205 Princes Victoria in P4 Some points to note. Very fiddly to get wiper pickups on the drivers due to the springs, in fact I cut back some ofthe spring support to clear the wiper, it doesn't show as it is behind the wheel rim. Extreemly tight for P4 between the slidebars, crosshead and the front con rod. In fact I had to file back the crosshead slides by about 1 layer on the inside and also file back part of the crosshead to clear. On the next one I will consider leaving one of the layers off. I got some brass cast valve chest covers from Brassmasters (keep that quiet) Front bogie is from Micheal Clark, I have reduced the thickness of the spring wire for this one as the suppliered wire is too resistant and lifts the drivers off the track. (I have tried the continuous springy beam on this model. the spring is fairly thick to guitar string 16 = 0.43thou) Tender is comet with Lanakshire underpinnings, easy to assemble and sprung.
  13. A trick I got from the club members is to get a blob of bluetak and put this in the planned position of the decoder. Replace the body on the chassis which will squash it down. Then when you remove the body again you will see how much space you have. If not enough you can either try and modify the chassis or body to create the space you need, or try another position Philbax
  14. Nice thought but nowhere nearly finished. What I have done is to use gibsons 6'6" king wheels for setting up. Some may think this is an expensive route but I usually have a set of drivers for setting up the chassis as I prefer to fit the final ones only once if possible. So may have a rolling chassis soon, not for Railex though Ivan Still looking for detailing bits although I have a lot of brass masters castings (spares) left over from my scots
  15. Tim What guage wire did you use for the window surround please thx Philbax
  16. Hi, this is really good. where did you get a drawing of the bridge from? philbax
  17. Any updates on this? I have built a comet tender with the Lanakshire models chassis for mine which will be 6205 Princess Victoria. Got the nameplates today, and have the boiler and smokebox rolled. Just finishing off a Gibson 3F with a CSB (first try at this) before starting in earnest on this one which may also incorporate a CSB ( need to explore the solution for having abogie and trailing truck). Question What/how did you push the rivits out? Philbax
  18. Hi Richard As you look into the supplier aspect there has been a marked move away from the traditional model shop, ideed they are few and far between, why? Also you may want to look at the age of modellers, here you may find many senior modellers that started very young, whereas there are fewer young modellers about (wait for some responses on that statment!) there is, in my view a change in society where there is less creating and more expecting the product to be there for you to @play with@, computor games for instance. Of course this not only impacts the world of model railways. All the best Phil Bax
  19. DMR? Michael If you do cast them I want three please Philbax
  20. Thanks Michael for the etches at Scaleforum. Comet tender on order Ultrascale wheels to be ordered collecting various bits and bobs, Where did you source the chimney from? Obviously I am following this minutely, keep the photos coming, great stuff Philbax
  21. Michael Will you be bringing some princess etches to scaleforum? Phil
  22. nice model, and the DMU as well
  23. 2mm, unbelievable! I need to up my game in P4!!
  24. This is looking really good. What are the origins of the model, DJH? Don't forget to fit the axle boxes on the tender. I built one from the DJH kit which I thought was very good as far as the body was concerned, the only modification I made was to lower the cab roof slightly. As I build in P4 I replaced the kit chassis with one from Comet Can we see some more photos please
