Hi Michael
If you can make a mould for the chimney that would be great, I'll have two to start with, one for 6205 and one for the revised etch when it's ready.
Thanks
Phil

Thanks Michael for this,
What I would like to see is how you make the steam pipes please
-
Steam pipes Michael they would be really useful, they look a b*****r to make.

Hi Micheal - wish list
For me and I think for a few others we would like to see the bits that we cannot get elsewhere - castings:-
Chimney (yes I know there are two versions)
Smokebox front
The lumps on the firebox
Dome
Rear trailing spring and axle box
backhead
castings above the bogie (could be built from an etch)
etches
The box cover over the expansion link
extending the front 'piano'cover further back under the smokebox
the other set of reversing rods (can't remember which set is on the etch which I don't have to hand at the moment)
Doors under the firebox above the rear frames
Also a drawing of the first (shorter) firebox and boiler (Longer)
When I find a way to upload a photo I will. so far have a running chassis and building the 6205 valve gear atm.
One interesting fact that I have discovered is that most published accounts say that the reversing gear was modified on 6205 at the same time as the valve gear.
published photos (wild Swan books) show the new valve gear with the existing reversing gear ('splasher' like form over the link to the reversing arm) but later photo's show this was changed and a straigher reversing rod fitted and the 'splasher' removed. any idea when this took place. I am building mine circa 1947

Hi
Prior to 1952 the front frames had two diamond shaped holes abpve the bogie to allow accomodate the flanges of the inside cylinder bye-pass valves which were never fitted.
The Micheal Edge etch has these as a half etch on the frames which can be left as is for post 1952 and opened out for the original frames

by that time the long firebox was the normal one, IIRC the longer wheelbase was due to the hopper ash pan, this also resulted in a longer smokebox.
I thought that the longer wheelbase was because of the use of roller bearings. The boiler and firebox were standard and the extra length resulted in a longer smokebox.
Once the longer frames were introduced then all subsequent locos had the same frames whether they had roller bearings or not

You are right, I stand corrected

Dome from the scrap box I'm afraid, I don't know where it came from unless it was an old 'k's' kit.
For the chimney I have an old Jamison chimney which with a bit of work could past muster.
Don't you wonder sometimes why you keep boxes of seamingly useless bits!

Hi
Just got mine to move under power!!
Building 6205 Princes Victoria in P4
Some points to note.
Very fiddly to get wiper pickups on the drivers due to the springs, in fact I cut back some ofthe spring support to clear the wiper, it doesn't show as it is behind the wheel rim.
Extreemly tight for P4 between the slidebars, crosshead and the front con rod. In fact I had to file back the crosshead slides by about 1 layer on the inside and also file back part of the crosshead to clear. On the next one I will consider leaving one of the layers off.
I got some brass cast valve chest covers from Brassmasters (keep that quiet)
Front bogie is from Micheal Clark, I have reduced the thickness of the spring wire for this one as the suppliered wire is too resistant and lifts the drivers off the track. (I have tried the continuous springy beam on this model. the spring is fairly thick to guitar string 16 = 0.43thou)
Tender is comet with Lanakshire underpinnings, easy to assemble and sprung.

Phil's almost finished building his. Unfortunately he's now got an enforced wait of, ooh, at least five months.....
Nice thought but nowhere nearly finished.
What I have done is to use gibsons 6'6" king wheels for setting up. Some may think this is an expensive route but I usually have a set of drivers for setting up the chassis as I prefer to fit the final ones only once if possible.
So may have a rolling chassis soon, not for Railex though Ivan
Still looking for detailing bits although I have a lot of brass masters castings (spares) left over from my scots

Hi, this is really good.
where did you get a drawing of the bridge from?

Any updates on this?
I have built a comet tender with the Lanakshire models chassis for mine which will be 6205 Princess Victoria. Got the nameplates today, and have the boiler and smokebox rolled.
Just finishing off a Gibson 3F with a CSB (first try at this) before starting in earnest on this one which may also incorporate a CSB ( need to explore the solution for having abogie and trailing truck).
Question
What/how did you push the rivits out?

DMR?
Michael
If you do cast them I want three please

Thanks Michael for the etches at Scaleforum.
Comet tender on order
Ultrascale wheels to be ordered
collecting various bits and bobs, Where did you source the chimney from?
Obviously I am following this minutely, keep the photos coming, great stuff

Michael
Will you be bringing some princess etches to scaleforum?

Have a look at the brassmasters inside valve gear for there 4F, i'm sure that it could be adapted as either working (very fiddly) or non working, but then I know you like a challenge
