  1. Hi Tim,

Come on, add some info... and get posting.

    Jon

  2. :-( If anybody wants an Ultrascale wheelset for a Heljan 26 in OO please PM me - I ordered in P4 ... looks like their system hiccuped somewhere. Chasing them at present (no answer)... but might be putting on classifieds ... 7 month wait down the drain :-(

If I did, I can't find it... doubly annoying. I;m guessing I'll get nowhere but I'll see what they come back to me with first; I've e-mailed and phoned (message left) ... Let's see how long before they get back to me.

You used to get an order confirmation email with all details on it... now it's just an online confirmation and "link" to the order status.. so there's nothing to track back to. Annoyed... possibly at them, possibly at myself.

      Jon020

David from Ultrascale has offered to replace them (reasonably quickly)... original order glitched? Sorted at least.

  3. ... and there it is! I didn't order one, but my "reputation" has achieved Western Enterprise!

Tim, just a silly reference to reputation scores; mine got to 1000, hence the comment!

Oh, OK, still, it's not something I've paid that much attention to anyway, I've never really understood how some blog entries attract yellow stars and others don't!!

    4. Jon020

      Jon020

You're quite right! It's practically irrelevant and just an insignificance that purely caused me some mild mirth given the timing of this with current releases. Stars? Oh yes. Who knows!?

  4. ... quite glad now about the cold weather... as it stopped me priming my 47 body... and Brian passed me some more extreme etching bits at Ally Pally to try - cab side window surrounds, so it's back out with the sandpaper and file.

  5. ... shortly to be headed west (SWA) for some hopefully warmer weather... really fed up with winter now!

  6. ... thought I'd just spend a few minutes scoping out what I'd need to do to refine those Bachmann 47 tanks... yee gads!!!! That'll take some work!

Ever get the feeling you've taken a step too far?

    2. Jon020

      Jon020

Maybe... but it'll be nice to think that I got it as accurate as I could. Oh well. At least there's only one piece of plastic to work on this time .

  7. 1 step back, 1 step forward; 4 steps (that were too far) back... 4 steps forward; 1 step back... 2 steps forward. Such is progress with the Bach 47 project... at least there's some primer involved this time.

  8. 2 hours and counting; cleaning up laptop... what on earth did youngest download? Time to review permissions me thinks - or hide the laptop so ghe can't ghet to it after school - he's only 6.. what'll he be like when he's 13?

  9. 3 1/2 hours trying to make marker lights for 4mm deltic from plastic rod and brass wire - failed - try again another day! Time for a beer!

      Hi Jon,

Just a thought but have you tried fibre optic cable (avail from ebay amongst others in a variety of sizes) You can get the sheathed variety which I had success with on a 47 project. The sheath can be cut back to expose the fibre optic which can then be cut and shaped to protrude through the body at the right diameter. It also allows you then to create a light-box where there is more room.

      Just a thought

      Hope it Helps

Hi, yes, I did think about that but have yet to convince myself that I want to light-fit this one... it's not a 21-pin version so would need all lights adding, including those for the headcode which would mean replacing that too. Not convinced that I'mm up to that yet, but thanks for the suggestion.... I'll keep an eye out for some.

      hi jon

I get mine done by a guy who is excellent and reasonable. he is steadily working his way through my fleet that don't have working lights. He is good value too for an excellent job. I think it really makes a difference. he did a superb job with my 40. Could PM his e mail address if you want.

  10. 3rd attempt at scalescenes inspection pit has been slightly more successful... and it's now all stuck down.

Ooh, now it's an EMU... 504!

  13. 55 minutes gate to gate Edinburgh to Gatwick; 45 minutes to get the last two miles to the office... is why air travel just doesn't work as it should. Good to be home though, fatigue, aches, pains and all.

    1. bcnPete

      bcnPete

43 minutes must have been the walk from the air bridge to the terminal at Gatwick!!

    2. Jon020

      Jon020

Plane stopped short of gate 110? Across the bridge - North Terminal... Had to wait for jet way.. then onto bus... wait until london-underground capacity full... drive to terminal and walk a mile to exit... wait for bus back to near offices and arrive... a hastle every time... oh the glamour of air travel ;-)

  14. A break from working the front end of a Bachmann 47... back to the P4TC Turnout kit now that check rails arrived... track gauge clears straight raills, yea! now for the curved outer closure rail.

  15. A day off and two TTAs weathered.

  16. A sharp Swann Morton 10A, pressure and lack of concentration, and finger tip = need some plasters! and maybe something medicinal

yes - rolled lightly and fixed, but they're still fragile - the most fragile of the lot so far. Care needed!

The answer to your question is - how many have you got left?

  18. Again, Brian H proves to be the master of Deltic knowledge - per his advice, yes the Deltic De-Mythology book does indeed show that the fuel tank vents on the No.1 end B side are different - Thanks for the pointer Brian, and of course to Ian Strange for his remarkable book

    1. Horsetan

      Horsetan

Brian's great. He is to Deltics what the late Albert Goodall was to Bulleid Pacifics.

    2. Jon020

      Jon020

Albert Goodall. Hmm don't know him. Wonder if my grandad did? Clan Line was his thing, bent handrail and all.

  19. All green Hymek bufferbeam and cowling paiting. Not what I am used to at all!

    1. Jon020

      Jon020

... and watching as some Heljan "hens teeth" 47 spares go for quite a bit on Ebay. Oh well, back to the scapel and plastic card.

    2. bcnPete

      bcnPete

      Green Hymek?

    3. Jon020

      Jon020

Yup. Not mine (don't panic!) My Friend's - he of the loft layout. Heljan one... everything under the sole bar was black so I offered to paint it - red bufferbeam. But I noticed the need for green cowlings and white tank too. A light weathering of underside will be given once tidied up. Nice little model; not my sort of thing, but very neat and compact.

  20. Am I the only person that thinks the new David Bowie track is possibly a spoof..? Surely he's not taking this seriously.

  23. And so a Skinhead PED is added to the stable.

  24. And we're back... phew! There was a danger of having to do some modelling, but I think that's been nicely averted ;-)
