  1. Do I weather the track then ballast...or ballast then weather the track???

      If you weather the track then ballast then it would look like track panels of an old siding being used on HS1!

      Do both. Paint the track overall first, including some generalised weathering of the rail and sleepers. Then ballast and follow up with individual sleeper weathering afterwards, plus perhaps a general 'blow over' from an air brush.
