  1. I wasn`t really complaining, I think it is great that they are doing so many Scottish railway buildings, especially those suitable for the northern routes. Not before time as my scratch building isn`t really up to it. I am taking your advice and using the Shed as a starting point and cladding it with various plastic sheeting. etc
  2. Just looked at their site again and there is a new building there since yesterday ! A highland cottage, much needed.
  3. Interesting you speak about the pricing structure. As I said above I bought the Highland shed a couple of weeks ago. They charged me £45 but I see it is now on the website for £30 ! Still can`t fault their service though and hope they do more Highland buildings.
  4. I also cannot fault their service. I ordered online one of their Highland sheds AFTER midday but it still arrived the next morning in the post.
  5. Developed but at what price ? I wonder what would happen to Chinese NIMBYS whose property happened to be in the way of a new line or road ?
  6. Sorry for the late reply. The shed I ordered, 24 x 12 is on their web site described as a "man cave" Cost is £3,000 but then it will need lining and insulating and of course a level concrete base which is almost prepared before the virus intervened. Do call the company, they are very amenable and would make a shed to your own specifications. I am sure they would deliver to you outside their own areas. Fort me it`s so frustrating as i now have all this free time but all I can do is stare at the cleared site that is waiting for a delivery of concrete !
  7. Not true. It will more likely be cheaper. Yield management will be used to fill seats so essentially the fare goes up and down according to demand. if fares are high this is because demand is high and vice versa. Airlines have this technique to perfection and ensures full aircraft. If fares are too high demand goes down and the system adjusts
  8. You miss the point i was trying to make. London is crazy accepted but my fathers house was in rural Lincolnshire where there is not a great deal of house inflation however there is a degree off inflation in the economy and even low inflation will erode in time, as long as spread over a long enough time frame A degree of inflation is acceptable as the opposite , deflation is destructive. Non of us thankfully have lived through deflation but even at sat 2|% why would you buy a large item like a car or house today when it would be 2% cheaper in a year or 10 % cheaper in 5 years. the economy would grind to a halt. So to get back to my point inflation the dept of HS2 will not be as bad as we think today in 30 years time.
  9. and let`s remember that even such a huge debt can be inflated away over the years to the point it is insignificant. i remember my father telling that in the last year of is mortgage his monthly payment was £4. That no doubt was a big sum when he first borrowed the money and he was earning less than £10 a month but by the 1980`s it was peanuts relatively speaking. Same for the national debt.
  10. No , it hasn`t reached 120 billion yet someone a few posts up thread has just claimed 200 billion !!!! That`s how rumours start. Pick a number, a large number and multiply by anything you think.
  11. FYI I have on order a 24 x 12 feet shed from this company - https://www.andrewdams.co.uk/ This is for my far North layout based on Forsinard which will appear on these pages in due course.
  12. I have found Olivia`s service absolutely dreadful. i would NEVER use them again. I do not refer to speed of sending out mail orders, they will do that as they want your money but once they do have your money that is where it stops. They are simply not interested. They are also expensive. Compare their prices to Rails of Sheffield for example. Put simply I will NEVER, EVER, EVER use Olivia`s again and would advise anyone to avoid like the plague.
  13. No, it is highly unlikely. Yield management will see to that. can you imagine the political uproar if, after 100 billion trains were running empty due to high ticket prices? The same yield management that Ryan air / Easy Jet use to fill their aircraft will be used and that will ensure the fare level is correct
  14. I have just sent a reply to the editor of the Spectator correcting many of the misleading assertions in the article. I hope it is published but I suspect not. Maybe is a few more send in replies it might stir them into printing one ? Here is the address - letters@spectator.co.uk
  15. and let`s not forget work is still ongoing ..............
  16. It will probably be assessed at various points along the way to make sure it is not above budget but realistically once it goes further it`s too far gone to cancel. Probably an option to cancel 2b if it gores over budget before they reach that stage ?
  17. I know exactly what you meant but i don`t see why I should spend all night trawling through the internet to satisfy your lack of trust. Its everywhere., trust me.
  18. Just about everywhere I would say led by the national newspapers who are still peddling 100 billion to save 20 minutes to Birmingham .It`s a simple headline but totally misleading but it sticks. Never a mention about all the capacity freed up and how it will benefit places miles away from Hs2. I hear all the time people saying "but it will not benefit us as we are 50 miles from HS2" etc, etc The public swallow sound bites. Every politicians knows this
  19. Given all the new conservative seats in the north there is no way this is going to stop at B`ham,. That would give Labour 5 years to attack the Tories over and would be a political own goal
  20. Very possible and add to this article in today`s Torygraph (not known for supporting HS2) I quote a few lines - Baroness Vere of Norbiton, a transport minister, praised “Victorian pioneers” for building the train lines which form the “vast part of our national railway”. She also criticised “naysayers” who block such projects and praised the “courage” of politicians who see them through. Speaking in the House of Lords in an HS2 debate on Thursday, Baroness Vere said: “Thinking back nearly 200 years to the 1830s, our predecessors were here debating not one, two or three but four new major train lines."... That to me sounds optimistic and that the government`s thinking is to build it.
  21. Used to live in Alvechurch but i always reckoned that Brum was unfairly criticised by those who had never been there. All cities have bad bits but the centre has improved out of all recognition since I first lived there which was 1979
  22. Not so. I has been stated many times that the HS2 money would NOT be diverted into other railway uses It either builds HS2 or nothing. .
  23. Sorry , off topic but you obviously have not been to central B`ham recently The cent re is massively improved over where it was 30 or 40 years ago.
