  1. Not sure if the sign is LNWR or LMS. All I had to go on was the photo below. As to font, I used Arial which seems close enough.
  2. Just a couple of pictures to show a bit more detail added to the part of the hotel that has been built. First the bottom of the bay window support. The pointy bit has been 3D printed. The detail does not show up very well, though it should do when painted. The rest of the model looks a bit rough at this magnification. Must try harder to clean things up better! A tidy looking sign above the door.
  3. A few other railway items seen on the Cologne trip. This Gauge 1 loco was on private layout in on old carriage museum just outside Cologne. Sound, smoke, and cylinder steam, all in phase with the chuffs. Cost £3k!! Two items in Z gauge!! Big stuff! This 7.5" gauge loco was pulling 100 people! One of the showcase models Another big one!
  4. A selection of photos of the layout taken at Cologne on our trip last week. The arches under the end screen of the station roof were so new that the paint wasn't dry when we unpacked it!
  5. Not sure what you mean. The corners are all mitred. Burn marks may make the corners look as though there is a gap, but once painted the corners should look better.
  6. Here it is, the almost complete Southern end of the North Western Hotel. This is as far as it will progress until the rest of the hotel is completed. Some of the detail cannot be added until the full model is painted. It is now in a temporary box and will be on its way to the Cologne show next week for, possibly, its only outing until it is completed and properly boxed. Details added since my last post include the front steps, the roof crestings, a bit more decorative stone strings, a couple of drain pipes, and a few more window frames!
  7. The front screen arches have now been completed and await weathering before permanently fixing them to the baseboard. Also the South section of the North Western Hotel has been almost completed. Just a few more details to add before I abandon building and carry on with the drawings required to laser cut the remainder of the components.
  8. Just like buses. You wait ages to complete the first tower and along come three!!
  9. Back to work on the hotel. Most of the details have now been added to the North West tower. The rest of the details can only be added when some of the other sections of the building have been completed.
  10. Did a trial fit of the arches that support the South West screen of the station today. A good fit. Now to add the detail before the final fit. Looks good from inside the station.
  11. Good to finally meet Micheal and share in his enthusiasm for our layout.
  12. The model hotel currently under construction is a copy of the North Western Hotel on Lime street which was built in about 1875 and is still there to this day. It is not a hotel these days, but student accomdation. So it could be described as 'modern `image'!
  13. The basic structural details now added. Windows, chimneys, cast items. The next stage will be to add all the external stone decorations.
  14. A few more bits added today. Window frames and part of the roof. The roof ventilators are cast from 3D printed originals. I need a few more components cutting before I can complete the roof, but still plenty more to do.
  15. At long last after years of planning the model of the hotel has been started. The components for three of the corner towers have sen cut and the photo below shows the core structure of the first of the towers. And the core has the outer detail layer added.
  16. The latest model for Lime Street has rolled off the production line!
  17. Finally, today, all the drawings for the hotel have been completed. All 90 of them. 1900 parts! All test pieces have been cut. I am now awaiting the first batch of parts to be cut then the building can start. Finished the drawings about four hours ago. Now I am bored, so i started the drawings for the North screen of the platform!!!
  18. Just got our invite to the Cologne Exhibition in November!! Just got our invite to the Cologne Exhibition in November!!
  19. Probably cheaper to use PPD than order one offs. I have plenty of work done by PPD and, yes, they do small amounts. Probably need to add some more stuff to make up even a small sheet for etching. Thanks for the response.
  20. Thanks Bill, but none of the hands are small enough for our use. Which is a bit surprising as the web site says they cater for the railway modeller.
  21. First attempt at a working station clock. Need to obtain more prototypical fingers (anybody know a good source?) or etch some next time I do some etching.
  22. p.s. John, Les and Brian will be demonstrating at the Preston show this weekend. I'm sure they will be more than happy to discuss their work on Liverpool Lime Street, so why not drop by for a chat? I will take a box full of some of the impressive bits we have made for the hotel, along with some of the drawings done so far.
  23. Also we have removed some material on the inside of the signal base to allow more movement of the balance weight lever, and increased the boss thickness behind the signal pivot. This will allow us to add a thickness of paint to the back side of the signal arm without it interfering with the signal base!!!
