  1. An article on my layout was published in the spanish magazine called MAS TREN number 125.
  2. I wanted to make a serious layout (i.e. in accordance with what is done in Egypt :siffle:), but following various exchanges on the forum, I was suggested some interesting and trustworthy references. So I'm going to make some references to comics (Tintin with professor SICLONE), maybe Blake and Mortimer and Indiana Jones, ...
  3. You are right, the locomotive is an American Ruth Company with a Buda lanova motor.
  4. A few years ago I made layouts at the 7/8th then by lassitude I left to explore other scales like the hoe with the SIDI FONTANA and the on30 with Lucky Lucke. Finally I came back to the 7/8ths with the theme of archaeological exploration in Egypt with the railway. As is often the case in my networks, I always mix the real and the fictional. The narrow gauge railway was often used for exploration in Egypt with or without a locomotive. I chose to do it with typical English locomotives (colonial heritage). I have a lister, a ruston and a ransom and rapier. There will be a sand chute system between the ground and the first level. On the left side of the layout, there will be a cross bridge. The layout of which you have a volume model is 70 cm by 100 cm plus the cross bridge. Here are some real photos from Egypt which I will use as a basis deir-el-bahari-1894-6 by franck combe, sur Flickr egypte fouilles Isa 01 by franck combe, sur Flickr B55_NS by franck combe, sur Flickr A212_NS by franck combe, sur Flickr IMG_6414 by franck combe, sur Flickr IMG_6413 by franck combe, sur Flickr IMG_6412 by franck combe, sur Flickr IMG_6411 by franck combe, sur Flickr IMG_6410 by franck combe, sur Flickr IMG_6409 by franck combe, sur Flickr
  5. An article on my layout was published in the german magazine called Schmale Spuren https://www.schmale-spuren.com/
  6. I just finished my previous layout Lucky Luke. I want to continue with another project at on 30 scale called Carl ARENDT Mine Company. 10 years ago I started a layout at on30 scale but I never finished it. So I will do it differently this time. It's called Carl ARENDT, because Carl ARENDT was a remarkable man that I appreciated a lot. The second reason is that I add a specific constraint typical of Carl ARENDT’s spirit. My layout will have only 10 cm deep (4 inches). The reason of this constraint was inspired me by a discussion with my friends Erwan Josset and François Fontana (editor-in-chief of a narrow gauge magazine) that proposes as a challenge to create a layout of 10 cm deep. I doodle a lot of and I find one solution by creating a cross-section of a mining network. There are also two advantages of this size: a quick realization and also it could easily store in my flat during the building. I chose to do this at on30 for the atmosphere because if I do it at hoe scale it will be too small. It will be an US mine. 1 by franck combe, sur Flickr This is the blue print (overall dimension 120 cm by 60 cm by 10 cm (130 inches by 24 inches by 4 inches) 2 by franck combe, sur Flickr And please find 2 photos that will inspire the layout. These photos doesn’t belonging to me but I'm not able to find the owner, so if you are the owner of these photos please contact me. 3 by franck combe, sur Flickr 4 by franck combe, sur Flickr

  16. The barn has his roof with Tar-Paper Roof. I had to wheater it. For the roof of the church and railways station I will do it in corrugated steel. I add barrier and tumbs for the church. 17. Thank you for the idea. For the roof of the church, railways station, school and barn, I will do it with Tar-Paper Roof and corrugated roof. For the the corrugated roof, I had to wait the end of the covid to order etched product.
  18. I have nearly finished the building. I try to balance between what we expect in model railroading and strip cartoon. I'm quite happy with the final result except for the roof of the church, railways station and barn. I don't know if I have to change the color or the material (replace the wood by corrugated roof or by shingle). If you have any idea, I will be happy to share me your opinion. 21. Hi, I have done little progress because I'm very busy with containment, telecommuting and try to find food in store in Paris. I have finish the track laying, electricity and I motorise the turn out. IMG_4015 by franck combe, sur Flickr IMG_4014 by franck combe, sur Flickr
  22. I add the figures to capture the mood. I have all the figures of the cartoon strip with all the western cliche. They are shinny but I will coat them with a mat varnish. 23. I modify a little bit my mock up. For the hill, it's just in order to have an idea. The first tunnel is for the mine and I reality the track for the mine will be 1 inch lower. I will check the mock up during this week and if I'm satisfied the next week I will lay the tracks. 24. I had an old project 2 years before of a western spaghetti layout that I postponed. Finally, I come back with a similar layout lucky luke on 30 layout based on LUCKY LUCK strip cartoon. The overall dimension is 2m long for 45 cm wide for the boxed layout plus an oval to create a continuous loop. This is the mock-up. I will do a mix between a true traditional layout and the strip cartoon. It's not so easy because the code and the rules are different. IMG_3835 by franck combe, sur Flickr I have to create the background for each building. The buildings come from Atlas collection and I have more than 50 figurines from the strip cartoon. They are more or less at the scale of 1/48. We'll get all the clichés of the cartoon strip.
