  1. Funny thing; Until you wrote that comment James, I'd never thought about pre-wiring the motors themsleves - soldering droppers to the turnouts at my workbench? Yes. But not prepping the motors. Good call!
  2. And of course one day you may want to go back and add some subtle internal lighting...
  3. Ouch! "Trinity hoppers", eh? So they'd have gone to wagon heaven then? I did hit the "like" button on this post... and then pondered that it's probably not quite the sentiment I wanted to express...
  4. [devil's advocate mode] The thing is: one day, you might get a fob camera and do a "driver's eye" video of Bacup. Now if that low relief house is left as-is, and you can see it from the cab view, are you going to be happy...? [/devil's advocate mode] You could always assume the railway came after the house... and that therefore it did have a view, once.
  5. No, I think that's the RMWeb effect - The desire to "get it right", driven by a self-imposed wish to always improve, that grows on you the more you participate in this fourm. BTW - more great work, Jason - always great to see your updates.
  6. Hi Jim; I've just found this thread after following you back from the "Posting in layout topics" comment - some really great work! Looking forward to seeing your story unfold - and have added you to my favourites so I don't miss any updates. Regards Scott
  7. Of course most mere mortals would look upon a room filling S&C based layout as something of a book-end to their railway modelling efforts, Jeff... I'm not sure whether to laugh or to cry that you've even got designs on something else once K/L is complete!!! Always an enjoyable read catching up with what you are doing. Cheers Scott
  8. In which case, what a shame you could not have come down in our summer of 2007, Jeff. We had an unexpected visit from a great comet - the first I've ever seen. I can honestly say it was an incredibly moving experience - so surreal and otherwordly... A couple of links in case you hadn't seen them before: http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap070205.html http://www.twanight.org/newtwan/photos/3001530.jpg Cheers Scott
  9. In which case, Jeff, photos of your best specimens are surely an appropriate substitute? It's your thread, after all...
  10. Very nice work, Jeff! Congratulations on getting this done so quickly, and so such a high standard. (I do like the hours you work/post on this, BTW - it seems that quite often you post a few hours before my day starts (here in Perth) and again as my day ends, so I get to see plenty of progress!) Keep the story coming - it's a great read. Regards Scott
  11. At the rate you are building, Jeff, I'd think a whole Yorkshire Dales village would be your "winter project"! Very nice work so far - I really appreciate the clear photos (and copious quantities of same). It tells us all a fascinating story. Thanks for sharing.
  12. Very interesting work with the standard Peco hardware, indeed - you should be proud of the result. When you get a chance, I'd love to see a closer photo of the curved slips - how much surgery did you need to do to get them to take on a flowing shape?
  13. Have you any idea how much Royal Mail wanted for postage to the Antipodes... even back then??????
  14. I'm with Jeff on this one - it sounds like it had the makings of a Top Nightâ„¢!
  15. Hello Gordon; I wonder if a grey, or monochrome toned background may not work better? My thinking is that behind an urban setting, the washed out look of a mid-winter sky may bring more atmosphere, and be more appropriate, than a "field-full-of-buttercups" blue sky with fluffy clouds. FWIW, I like the industrial scene - but not the blue sky that goes with it... Good luck, and I'm sure you'll have a eureka moment that settles it for you. Regards Scott
  16. It's no more than a "heavy general", Ken - it'll keep your steam passages good for another 100,000 miles or more, I'm sure. (In your case, that probably equates to your next 250 kits!) My thoughts are with you for a comfortable and comprehensive recovery.
  17. :laugh_mini2: D&S on ebay for 99p? I think thats what the fanbois are paying for the 10 year old cellotape Danny used on the box! You'll do fine, I'm sure.
  18. Profile grinding in the tunnels under Taipei. Taiwan High Speed Railway Construction.
  19. Just found this thread, Jeff - great to see your progress. There is something organic about seeing a layout grow from a bare room... it really is the true blank canvas you have to work with! Good luck, and keep the updates coming. Scott
  20. Thanks for that Gordon - it really is very enjoying following your posts: maybe it's the inner-megalomaniac in me, but there is something quite inspiring seeing a "big build" progress!
  21. Gordon, any particular reason for chosing SMP over C+L?
  22. Gilbert - it may be stating the obvious, but you do know that with the G12 (I seem to remember you ended up with one of those, yes?) you can pull the viewing screen out from the rear panel - it's hinged on the left - and twist. tilt and reverse it into all sorts of contorted angles away from the body of the camera? This may help you shift the point-of-view of the photographer further away from the bookcase in some shots and still see what you are shooting...
  23. I seem to recall this one was around £36 from Holt way back in 2001 when I gathered this lot together. I think if the A1 Trust gets down to building one, it's a certainty for one of the big two RTR players. And I don't doubt theirs will handle tighter curves than this one is ever going to - so I'll be happy to run two if and when that happens.
