  1. Hi Mike,

I seem to remember you were after some Maroon Mk1s. Someone is selling sopme here.

No connection, just thought you might be interested.

    Regards, Matt

  2. Hi Carl,

How is Vale of Oxbury coming along? I was enjoying the thread on the old RMWeb, any chance of posting your progress on here?

    Regards, Matt

  3. Still hoping for an N gauge version. B)
  4. True but I would much rather ride behind the 2800 than an austerity. Partly this is because I am a GWR fan but also it is because the austerities are a bit bland compared to more distinctive engines. Even the BR standards have more character. Having said that I apprecaite their importance, particularly on those preserved lines just starting out (Gwili railway for examnple). I do not begrudge them their usefullness. It just seems a shame to me that so many were preserved when more interesting (and still useful engines) like the BR std 3MT or the Granges were all cut up.
  5. Many thanks for the suggestion, I will try and track down a copy. Yes I think that is the case. I believe that they were intended to replace existing home and distant semaphore signals on a 1-for-1 basis. I will try having a look at american models too.
  6. Does anyone know where I can find some photos of GWR colour light signals of the kind installed at Bristol Temple Meads in the 1930s? How long did these signals last, would they still have been in use at the end of steam? Lastly (and this is probably a long shot) does anyone know if there are any N gauge versions available? They do not have to be working as long as they are the right type.
  7. Not necessarily true. The ownership of the IPR will have been stated in the contract, it does not automatically belong to either party. For example, Bachmann might agree to do the production at a lower cost of they gain ownership of the IPR after a specified period of time. Alternatively they might gain ownership with the proviso that they do not release any models of CoT but can do other class members. A good example would be Ixion Manor which has been produced by Dapol. Part of the work included the production of a 3500 gallon Churchward tender drive. I do not know the details of the arrangement between Ixion and Dapol but I would hazard a guess that Dapol have the rights to the tender drive since they are planning to release a 38xx with the same tender drive. This would not be possible if Ixion automatically owned the copyright. My guess is that Dapol gave Ixion a discount on the production of the Manor in reutn for the right to use the tender drive behind other locos. Please note that I am not saying any of the above actually happened. I am just pointing out that the IPR is a commodity like any other and the ownership will be specified in the contract and related to the price.

I don't think they are too bad. Take a look at Nuneaton junction, http://www.railbrit.co.uk/location.php?loc=Nuneaton%20Abbey%20Junction They seem a passable representation of UK masts. The only bit that seems out to me is the extra wire forming a triangle to join the upper arm but that is not part of the mast itself.
  9. Personally I agree they are a bit on the shiny side. Reflections are one of those things that do not scale well and tend to break the illusion with models. It is the same way that most modellers prefer a satin finish even if it is an ex-works loco that would have been glossy in real life. However they are a bit too modern for me and I probably won't be getting them so feel free to ignore my vote if it goes against the concensus.
  10. That is right, churn traffic largely ended by nationalisation (although I am sure isolated examples continued). The traffic was seasonal to an extent being heaviest at the summer. The GWR traffic did usually warrant an express loco, indeed it needed it for the perishable cargo. I believe there was even working diagram worked by a King, their only regular non-passenger diagram IIRC.
  11. You lucky fellow. I would love a chance to drive something like CoT. Still, the MHR is just down the road and they do engine driving days. Maybe one day (when the kids are a bit older ).
  12. Milk trains on the main line required a passenger rated brake van (usually a BG). The reason for this was that milk is perishable and so ran at express speeds so a corresponding brake vehicle was required. Older BGs were popular for this but there are other options. The Ex-LMS Stove Rs were very popular for this role as they provided the necessary guard accomodation but were smaller and lighter than regular bogie BGs. After nationalisation they ended up distributed around the network and were very popular on Southern milk trains. I have seen photos of Stove Rs on milk trains passing through Wimbledon (probably on their way to Vauxhall or Kensington). I am a Western fan so my knowledge of SR stock is a bit more limited. Both the vehicles you mention are passenger rated so would be feasible vehicles on a milk train. I do not know for sure if either was actually used in that role. I do know that the Stove Rs were used, it depends if you want to wait for the forthcoming specially comissioned model.
  13. Very nice indeed and usable in many periods (livery and fittings permitting). Does anyone know if there is any chance of an N gauge version? I know Deltic has not appeared in N gauge but the Farish range only has an only poole-era deltic so that is not very suprising. CoT will be an all-new model so might it scale down well?

Here we go, publicity shot rather than a warley snap though.
  15. Personally I would class that as "Expert" level.

    Dapol Class 22

Any word on the N gauge version of the 22 or is that still just WIP? Between this and Farish's class 14, that just leaves the D600s missing from N gauge hydraulic lineup (and the full set available to in 00).
