  1. Some mundane details that may be overshadowed by more important stuff are the extra rain gutters over the side grilles that the Class 29 received (but not the 21 as far as I know). The additional vertical pair of grilles on the 29 were not guttered on the engines with disc headcodes but the gutter extends to cover them on the examples with central 4-digit codes. Also watch out for the grille hinges as the 21 and 29's with discs have the paired vents side hinged whereas the 4-digit loco's have their paired vents hinged horizontally. There may be or may not be variations of this but it's definetaly something to watch out for as well as considering the additions (and blanked 21's exhaust) to the 29's central roof area. Cheers Andy
  2. Cactustrain, that is the most realistic picture on here yet I reckon; for me that dirty scene deserves to win but voters maybe want to see trees and other stuff...we'll see. About the French 40.......I love it; it's not accurate on the nose but it's a part of modelling history and sort of cosy that it ever came to fruition. I sold a lot of outmoded loco's but couldn't part with my Joueff's Andy
  3. The pictures on this page are fantastic!. I reckon folks are getting such good lighting into the shots these days that the colour versions are working better then the B & W 's. Cheers Andy
  4. Thank you Merlin. It's great that you have memories of this region that a lot of us have only seen on black and white photographs. It must be nice to model from memories as well as photographs as there must be some extra bit of soul that goes into it and I think it does show, and links us younger modellers in some way to the past. I have only read about Edinburgh's railways from books and my memories are only of modern DMU's and electrics but I've tried to gather some information about the past and see where everything fits in and how structures were built on the NBR. I think a layout of St Margarets would be good to build with it's volcanic turntable and cramped quarters with unwilling tenements. So it's pretty interesting for me, all this. Thanks Andy
  5. Wow, I'm gobsmacked! Whilst most folk are ogling the Gresley's which are beautiful of course, I'm looking at the smaller loco's that were hanging in there towards the end of steam on that region and how nicely they are weathered. The pug with the makeshift tender (is it a Y9?) is simply fantastic. So many top qualilty photo's here it's hard to take them all in and notice every detail but what stands out for me is the point rodding and the signal wires. Wonderful stuff Cheers Andy
  6. They were always a bit more cultured than that in Brum I think The glazing has the authentic vandal proof perspex or whatever, yellowing just starting to occur on some of it's panes which will be helped by a thousand school kids scratchings and burns....God, I get the chills from that bus stop.....mission accomplished
  7. Another fan here too. Some lovely scenes and mouth watering loco's. Welcome to Scotsweb Cheers Andy
  8. Ach. Sorry Stu and folks. I didn't want what I said to come across as a wannabe mod thing but it sort of did didn't it? The picture blew me away or I wouldn't have commented and I agree that this thread shouldn't have hardline rules as it's more fun based and a discussion about whether photoshopping is a good or bad thing in forums or mags should be somewhere else. Cheers Andy
  9. That single car is amazing in every way Stu. I think Photoshopping shouldn't be allowed in this thread though. It's how realistic is your modelling; rubbish backscenes and the lot, but not how realistic is your image
  10. Yep, too hot in lofts! I popped in to see if the Calmac's arrived yet but you've got some good pictures of 114. Really nice work there with the pebbledashes cottage with the series one Landy and old Furgy; plus the battered fencing and general coastal scatter. So tell me, how do you blow a speaker?
  11. I was constantly reminded of this layout whilst on holiday in St Ives the other week. From the Sloop and down the line to St Erth. Yeah you've got the feel of the area down to a T. Lovely scenery and a wonderful layout you have there.
  12. I keep popping in to see how that station building is developing. It pretty much blew me away when you first started putting it together and I'm becoming increasingly speechless (if that's possible!)with each development. I say it's gonna be indistinquishable from the real thing when it's done. Thanks for sharing this much loved architecture from the great line and what a cracking layout!!! Andy
  13. Kev Yeah, that 27 of yours has the same Olivia's sound files as my 26 definately. Maybe that is their Class 25 sound or maybe it's just chance which little Sulzer sound they give you. I still can't tell the differences in real life between the 4 classes unless I can see the loco I reckon it's fair to say that Olivia's are hit and miss with their files but I wouldn't totally condemn them. Andy
  14. Ken Sorry for the late reply with regards the Olivias 26; busy weekend! There's 15 functions including notching on F14 and F15 I think but my controller only supports 9 so I've not tried those functions yet. The flange squeal is very nice as is the brake squeal; not piercing at all. I think all the Olivia's diesel projects have been standardised with the functions on the same F numbers. I don't have the Howes 26 decoder yet so I can't compare them but I can't imagine any disappointments with the Olivia's 26. I've heard Olivia's 24 too and that sounds good but the 25 sounds were poor I thought. Glad you liked the vid and layout. Nice praise from a Scot's modeller of your standard Cheers Andy
  15. Here's An ex MTK Gloucester twin I'm building based on Bachmann 108 running gear. Sound files are from a 108 maybe? Cheers Andrew
  16. Hello Kev I just put the 20X40 bass-enhanced in the tanks pointing upwards. You should get this speaker and enclosure with the decoder but I'd probably check first. Good Luck Andy
  17. Another Scots to the collection. Here's my video with a 26 with 4MT tank with Olivia's sounds and a 25 with bog standard Bachmann sound. Cheers Andy
  18. No need for gentleness Kev, that was great! and a nice web site you've got. That 37 certainly sounds throaty with the reflex in it. I'm more interested in your own sounds for the 20 and 27 though; guess they'll be on the next video's? Love your layout anyway, and that NBR tall lattice post is a work of art. Nice to see the Scots videos on here. Waverley West with the Deltic journey is perhaps the best DCC sound video I've ever seen with one of the best layouts to grace a forum; I'm hoping my own video of ex-NBR sound will be coming soon and add something else to the Scots sound scene. Cheers Andy
