  1. I haven't posted for ages but how lovely to come back and find David and Adrian indulging in Carry On Up The Branch Line jokes .... not to mention Westerham looking more as brilliant as always . Ooooh Sid is this what you meant by a push pull working Um bad grammar as well as bad jokes ... sorry
  2. Nice to see this back and looking forward to some interesting progress A very good compact layout in the making
  3. As many have posted looking very good , but for me the construction , placing and visual effect of the footbridge brings in a real wow factor . Brilliant example for any small layout of great modelling creating a sense of place and fooling the eye there is more to see off stage . I am enjoying this a lot and its a shame I'm nowhere near Minehead in August

Forgot to mention I've started a two doll bracket signal for the starter for platforms 2 and 3 . I have built one before but was not happy with the result and I have plenty of parts from a Ratio LNER kit to do the job

Thanks Barnaby and the others making encouraging posts, it is always good to know this is read and appreciated.

Work has been the big item in June but I have grabbed the odd half hour to work on some small projects. So the SR concrete lamps are painted and I have completed a LSWR lattice signal based on the Ratio LNER signal kit suitably hacked and a cast finial. Not a perfect scale model but it will look the part at the end of platform 1

Think I've mentioned using Modelmates weathering spray before , well its just splodged on my weathered canopies aargh. No harm done though so keep calm and carry on
  9. Agreed the layout was excellent and hard to believe it was first time out

Thank you Adrian and the others who have rated my post. The roof has taken an age but I have learnt a lot and along with the third rail it should be the defining feature of the layout . The DEMU exhibition in Burton did not disappoint and Brighton East was excellent . the venue was also a masterpiece in Victorian splendour and civic pride

About to head off to DEMU exhibition at Burton and particularly looking forward to Brighton East I have now completed the canopies touched up paint etc so here they are looking rather pristine and soon to be treated to weathering

Rainy day and time for a couple of hours modelling this afternoon Worked on the overall roof adapting and butchering Airfix roof trusses and Plastruct rod to fit the three span roof section Also started building some Ratio concrete lamps and produced a jig to help fit the roof elements together as well as repairing platform canopies Started working on roof columns and gave everything new a coat of acrylic primer spray All very enjoyable

Don't know what voning is but sounds bad

Modelstrip less than a total success , or to put it another way it didn't work Maybe too dry , maybe not good with acrylics . Not disaster though as the paint on the valances was loosened enough to vone off with a scrub. Some repairing to do but nothing too terrible

Decorating nearly done for the moment so room and time available for modelling at chateaux Lash I have treated the platform canopies with Modelstrip, I was pleased with the weathering but they will be an integral unit with the overall roof and so I will weather the whole thing together I am continuing to work on the exit end of the layout, next job a Wills varigirder bridge Onwards and er sideways
  18. In building canopies and platforms I have been and still am beset my all manner of pestilence, but I must admit I am so pleased these have not included yellow lines on the platform. A faded white line appears to be more than sufficient in the early 60s. Happy carefree days , jumpers for goalposts, lettuce and Bovril sandwiches ........I admire your persistence and can't wait to see the full effect with canopies on
  19. So pleased to see progress on this brilliant scheme again . Let the lack of space be an inspiration is my view. Looking forward to seeing more
  20. Just read the whole thread. Very good ideas and execution in a small space and plenty of inspiration and food for thought.
  21. Love it , its not just that Adrian is a terrific modeller but the feel and atmosphere is just perfect and so well observed. I think he might just have missed a brilliant career designing film sets

I haven't worked on the overall roof and canopies for a few weeks but seeing David's work on Dover Priory has perked me up and so here are a few pics of the latest progress
  24. My experiences with expanding foam have not been very positive , well messy sticky and thoroughly nasty would be quite apt but it might be worth a go . I just have this vision of the foam bursting through the platform surface and running amok like Alien causing John Hurt a bit of tummy trouble . Mind you if that happened in the real Portsea in the early 60s I don't think the poor little razor jawed acid blooded little mite would last 24 hours with the locals
  25. .... and I forgot to mention the canopies are looking very good . Is that a Knightwing footbridge suitably hacked , sorry crafted . Looks very nice whatever
