Nice to see you back Neil. I know we all get busy and the old cash problem. Your layout is looking really good. Nice to see it moving along.
Thanks Doug, I suppose the cash problem is the limiting factor. Fortunately I already have the ballast so nothing to stop me going ahead with that; other than motivation.

Thanks Jeff. It will have to come in stages due to the cost but I need it. I'm loving the old electrics. Some very interesting designs.

No problem Grahame, its always best to ask as many questions as possible before committing to a purchase. Yes nice to keep the Bavarian railway alive in model.

Hi Grahame, Thanks for that, Glad you're enjoying it. The set up I'm using is putting the Veissmann signals through Lenz LS150 decoders. With the ECoS you can then create routes so that the signal and points can be linked to trigger in sequence. I actually bought the Veissmann decoders recommended for these signals and had no joy at all with them. I'm confident I set them up correctly as I spent ages at it but they just would not respond other than in a way that they should not have been set up. My take on this was that some decoders will be more compatible with some controllers than other. I'm fairly sure that the Veissmann decoders would have worked ok with the Veissmann commander controller. Well that's my expectation anyway. In comparison the Lenz Ls150 has been quite reliable with point motors and signals so I'm happy continuing with those.

Hi Grahame,
The entrance to the station isn't in the museum where the turntables etc are. When you come out of the Anhalter U bahn station walk the opposite direction from the museum and it's by the main road. I was aware it was there and wanted to see it but can't remember now how I knew. If you were going to the Techniks museum and weren't aware of it you'd easily miss it. It's a fair distance from the museum which gives an indication of how large a station it must have been. I loved the HO model of it.
I think it's the best transport museum I've been to. Absolutely amazing.
Thanks, new controller has now arrived and will be cracking on with some modelling this week.

Hi Ray,
I had looked at the Z21 and it does look very good. I really like the cab view feature. One of my thoughts was that all of the routes and mimic diagram etc are all stored in back up on my computer. My understanding is that I will be able to download this onto the new ECoS and I shouldn't have to spend weeks programming in everything. I know what you're saying about the cost. I'm Scottish too and don't part with cash unless absolutely necessary.
cheers

Thanks Mike, yep ballasting's going to be painful. I think that's why I'm taking my time getting to it.

Great blog entry. I'm off to berlin in a month so very useful.

Thanks Mikkel, I've since gone back and changed the side street scene with a smaller sized one. I'll show that in my next blog entry. I used a Bavarian banner to hide the top and a tree on the opposite side of the street. No problems, I've made a lot of mistakes on the way with this and other layouts and it's worth sharing so other people don't make the same ones.

Looks Good Neil,
I would be tweeking some of that trackwork before you ballast it the video shows up a few sections that may cause problems later on.
Cheers Peter.
Thanks Peter, yes it got bashed around a bit while working round it. Next job is sorting that out and filling in gaps.
Cheers

Thanks for the kind comments guys, Thanks for the link Mike. I'll have a look at that. I prefer the low down perspective. It gives a more realistic look on things. I'd like to do a bit more of this.
Hi Grahame, I'm sorry to say that I don't know of any manufacturer that does K.Bay decals. I don't mind you asking at all. More than happy to assist where possible. I'm sure that in a market as big as the German model rail one there must be a supplier that does. I did get some WW2 decals from a supplier in Germany years ago but can't find the details now. If I do I'll let you know. Some of the brass name and number plates that come with Roco locos could possibly be bought after market I'm thinking. Worth a try.
Cheers

Hi Grahame,
The main source I have used was the Eisenbahn Journal's Landerbahn report. It's all in German I'm afraid but on the DVD-Rom there are PDF's of nine magazines with plenty of pictures about the Bavarian railway network in Epoch 1 so still worth looking into even if you don't understand German. It was only 15 Euro so not too expensive. There's plenty of detailed information in german language but unfortunately not a lot in english.
For signals, I've been looking into this recently as I've started installing some signals. I found a couple of sites that were helpful. If you use google chrome to find these sites it offers you a translation which is helpful.

Thanks Doug, my idea was to try to create layers to give the impression of depth which is often lacking because of the size restrictions we have to work with. The square will make a nice 3D backdrop for trains entering and leaving the station.

Thanks Peter, It's developed a bit since then. I'm just gradually migrating my blog over here.

Thanks bgman, I think it was one of the most interesting periods as so many new ideas were happening then. The variation in locos was fascinating. I'm really enjoying it. Good to hear you are too. Cheers Neil
