  1. I've just read on FF that long time follower of this thread and Leicester City fan Cary Hill is 65 years young today. You get a free train request as well as your bus pass. ;)

    Happy Birthday David. :sungum:

Thanks. I quite fancy a passenger and a goods working featuring Southern locomotives as their drivers need to keep their route knowledge up to scratch......forbidden fruit....

  2. You can play absolute pants and still get through to the World Cup QFs - I've just seen the proof.

Hoping for an England win, as it would make a great 65th birthday prezzie for me, but not only have England got to beat Columbia they also have to beat their ITV hoodoo with one win in the last ten World Cup games covered by ITV. :jester:

  3. Alan Hodgkinson.

    Mike.

Courtois would have had a field day carping on about how vertically challenged Hodgkinson was - only 5'9" (1.75m) tall - one of the few keepers I could have stood next to without feeling vertically challenged.

Good shot stopper but played for England before Gordon Banks so..........

  4. Poor old Kasper. Saved the pen towards the end of extra time only to be let down by some thoroughly dismal pens by his teammates in the shoot out.

At least he'll back at Leicester for pre-season training a bit earlier along with our Nigerian and Portugese contingents :jester:

  5. Spain get their just desserts after 45 minutes of fairly pointless arrogant tiki taka football with little attacking intent - 3 goal attempts to Russia's 5.

It doesn't make any sense to me not to try for a second goal to seal the match instead of taking your foot off the gas almost completely.

Still I'm sure Spain should be able to play with a bit more positive intent in the second half.

  6. I think today's matches may be a bit like "after the Lord Mayor's Show" with yesterday's pair of belting matches being a hard act to follow.

It's more difficult for me to get excited about today's matches as I don't have any feelings of irrational dislike, envy, prejudice or jealousy about any of today's teams, which I had for all of yesterday's teams to some degree.

Still football is a funny old game and anything can happen......

  7. Well that was a great game for the neutral and the match between Ronaldugal and Cannibal Suarez and his crew will have to be some match to equal it.

  8. Oh well at least England have secured the "easy" route to the latter stages - I just hope we don't have to call on the services of too many of that reserve crew as most of them are distinctly average.

Unfortunately it also looks like Pickford could be developing early stage Joe Hart Weak Hands and Arms Disease.

  9. I think England should go for the win tonight. I would prefer them to play Japan rather than Columbia as I think we would have more joy with set pieces playing a shortish team than against unpredictable South Americans. I don't care that we will probably play Brazil in the QFs. This "planning" your route to the Final nonsense never works out in practice anyway.

  10. Utter farce Japan v Poland - Japan go through because they have less yellow cards than Senegal after wasting the last ten minutes aimlessly passing the ball between themselves with Poland looking on as passive spectators :jester:

  11. someone who refs in the Tahiti 1st division.....

Good old Norbert Hauata.....they wouldn't dare to actually pick him to referee a game would they?

  12. My concern is the quality of the referees. This is the world cup so should have the best referees and although I'm sure the representatives from Uzbekistan, Bahrain, Gambia, Zambia, Tahiti etc know the rules and are the top refs in their respective countries are they really up to officiating at this level? Our refs get a regular knocking but we don't have a single representative at the World Cup, surely we've got a dozen that are better qualified.

I thought Clattenburg was on the provisional confirmed  list before he went chasing a crock of gold in Saudi. Also not sure we've got a dozen quality referees in the Premiership but I could have missed them I suppose. :jester:
