  1. Satan likes! What bogies are you using?

I am lead to believe they should be a Y33, but Bachmann do a Y25 as a set of accessory spares, so it'll be these that it'll roll on.

I have some channel and the spare locks from a Bachmann container twin to fit on the sides, it's a narrow wagon like the prototype, the containers overhang and create quite a look.

  2. Further to brother satan's comments I report as follows.

A troll through the Gareth Bayer wagon site reveals a splendid choice of originals to replicate, a search on the web also unearths a set of detail plans from Astra rail.

But, what a bl..dy boring looking wagon.

Wattsy says he can cut it out tomorow if I can get him a set of plans tonight, so.....

I've drawn one up but at 1:76 so will have to rescale that as 1:1 for the laser cutter.

Attached are the details used so far and the CAD drawing of parts.

  3. Impressive stuff.

However I have to ask why you're creating a pocket wagon this way and not going with the existing Dapol option? A good model project and more likely to be seen there would be the FAA Thrall tilt wagon, a different type of container well wagon for high cube containers and used by ews/dbs as opposed to the KTA which is freightliner. And it's not available rtr, don't know anyone that's attempted a scratch build either.

    Good point,

If the truth be known, my buddy with the laser, has had a new one installed at his place of work, which is a significant upgrade on the last, and he asked for a more complicated project,

having a genesis kit to hand I was able to take some measurements straight from their offering as a tester.

i will do some research this end and get back with something.

  4. Little progress this week, with me and me bro' travelling to shows, Stafford last weekend, and Doncaster next, to those who came up and chatted and introduced yourselves, Hi, it's good to put a face to an avatar.

I studied Farkham layout at some length and found their rolling stock outstanding, ( the layout is first class all over, but the stock was just awesome,)

As a result I intend to have a go at building some of my own again, whilst it may not, to my knowledge have run onto the dock, I am going to have a bash at a few KTA pocket wagons,

I have drawn up the sides base, end panels and cross members, and will now forward these to,,,,, yes you guessed it. To have them cut from styrene on the laser,

  5. I do enjoy seeing updates on this one. That chemical plant is very impressive! Nice work. It looks like it needs some 'steam' drifting out of it somewhere, small dry-ice/smoke machine hidden in it maybe? Would be very atmospheric at exhibitions.

Had a similar thought about using a seuth smoke generator, in a few of the towers, the funny point of note is you seldom see anything coming out of the stacks during the day, in a way that I remember the fumes at llanwern or Port talbot.

Different story in the evenings though.........

  6. Frames built for elevated pipeline supports, primed with halfords spray, then a grey graphite metallic coat and a cheap blast over with a chrome colour from the local £1 shop. The bridging sections are treated the same, all currently being left to dry,

Received a new canon eos camera for my significant birthday over the weekend, so, better picture quality in future hopefully of progress on the layout,

Quiet week as tidying up work also underway in Ranelagh bridge ready for Stafford this weekend.

    Ttfn.

  7. Really good day, saw the push pull NR 37s through Cogan at lunchtime, then had a few hours on the baseboards,

They are now wired with the track feed droppers soldered up and a quick lash up made to test.

So at 2015 this evening the first movement took place with a Bachmann 37 hauling a Hornby container fret the length of the layout,

A good step forward, next will see the Cobalts added and the wiring fixed,

Hoping the styrene beams from EMA will turn up this week, have started the support frames and using florist wire to add the cross bracing, one srprayed up in grey primer is shown on the White paper in the picture.

Friday I picked up a dozen 300mm long lengths of hanrIl cut on the laser by Wattsy. Sprayed yellow these were glued onto the walkways added to the plant, this is now taking more shape,

The walthers factory was cut down to better fit the footprint on the base board, the remnant will be bashed into the garage for CJ minibus hire.

It's my birthday this week so little progress is expected.

  8. Awaiting the EMA plastruct parts, so in mean time have drawn up the large yellow dis charge tower rigs that take the STOLT tankers and unload to the nearby windmill tank farm.

Located next to the dock security office u have tried to scale them based on other features nearby like the doors on the power hut.

I will build three of them which will stand on the back of the baseboard which is intended to represent the dock side.

Turning my thoughts to the back scene, I am getting a proper camera for my very special birthday next Friday.

So the plan is to take some landscape shots from Jewsons of Dock view road, and also of the plant, then digital stitch them into a 12' long image,

  9. The layout has had its first enquiry for exhibiting, hopefully it will be at the cardiff show this autum dates are the weekend of the 16th October. It's good to have a deadline, focus the mind "an that" as Mr John Rance would say.

Tonight has been just an hour of gluing up short lengths of tubing with knightwing pipe flanges for the ducting on the plant.

    Progress is slow and steady.

  10. Recently placed an order for plastruct beams and lattice beams, found it as cheap as I could but still £30.00 for bits.....

Measured up for the knightwing security palisade fencing, there is 24" in a pack, and I need a 16' run to match the location.

Whaaaaaaaaaa. That's the best part of £64 on fencing.

Time to offload some stock on the classifieds to offset that one.

Wish I hadn't chucked all the old stock boxes out now.

    Doh.

  11. Bit more wok over the weekend, track pinned in place and the holes drilled for the cobalt motors, fitted a peco inspection pit which will be adapted as the unloading base of the Polybulks with a scratch built shed over the top.

The basic track plan is now pinned and all isolated so the soldering iron will be out soon for the track feed droppers.

With the track down the space for the plant is now evident and required a bit of re jigging, the complex visual elements of the plant can now be installed and painted as we go, this will take longer than I thought,
