  1. The charlesworth was weathered and in the coaling process im just waiting a few days for the pva to dry A while back i scrapped brakevan No1, i wasnt happy with it for a few years now and will be replaced by something else. This was quickly decided after browsing the L&Y wagon books and seeing the drawing for an 1870's brakevan, ive just been to the library to reprint to scale along with a few other wagons i like the look of Another recent scrap was wagon 15, a flat with a Fergie tractor. After a few years i wasnt happy using a dumb buffer as an implement wagon and i dont want the fergie anymore since its post war. The chassis wasnt worth repairing and reusing so its gone, 1 day i'll make a pregrouping implement wagon with 20's or 30's machinery on it

  4. im on the computer now so can get the photos works photo from a book print i acquired from the collection of the late John Allen, which i assume was taken at Butterley
  5. Ive got 2 photos of this, its also on my to build list, Charles Roberts' first tank wagon of 1881, it was preserved at the works until Procor took over and went to Butterley where it slowly rotted and disappeared into the undergrowth and now nobody is really sure if it even still exists
  6. I presume by the photo that the Kurtz wagon was black so thats what ive gone for and done a bit of lettering on the Charlesworth
  7. The pennsylvania S1 reputedly went over 130mph and another apparently did over 140mph and werent even trying to set any records, they were just doing their job and happened to do it in the process but no dyno car and no official record while Mallard had to go downhill while falling apart to set the record, the yanks werent bothered with the official speed records at the time but now a group is building a Pennsy T1 which is similar to the S1 but a bit smaller, The T1 theoretically could beat Mallard's record and to prove that it can de done
  8. So theyve got a new cross head and i'm guessing they they need to prove that it runs reliably before being allowed back on the mainline? Or is it getting it running somewhere to make back money lost from down time?
  9. Butterley have announced on FB that they are next going to start working on 3F 47445 and that they intend to finish it with its iconic orange tanks

The bagnall finished a few days ago Fittings are from a box of spares and scraps given to me a while ago, the valve handles on the turret are 4mm carriage door handles While i already have a few wagons waiting to finish i couldnt help myself. Gloucester's first tank wagon of 1865 for "C.Kurtz Liverpool" which i assume was Charles Kurtz alkali works in St Helens
  13. the redesign of the P2 was nearly all by him, if youve watched the a1 trust videos about the p2 cylinder block, it was presented by him, he knew this was coming for a long time and was documenting all his work so it can continue after he is gone, hopefully he was able to complete this
  14. I honestly think that the old layout pages are obselete and i dont any them anymore, not just because that layout is gone but all the posts are a bit useless without the photos and i'm not going back to replace them, i would just keep the first post which would become a compilation/back story intro for what it used to look like
  15. 1901 Bass & Co Burton No1228, the last Caledonian single which was about to be scrapped, the magazine tried starting a campaign to save it for preservation but it didnt work Crediton, i saved this one just for the trackwork one of a few shots around the Furness's Barrow works, what took my interest is the loco on the right which looks like a Hunslet or Manning wardle The last GW broad gauge train Manchester London Road Goods Newcastle 1848 various rail sections Tiller patent fold up sheet bars tried out on a North eastern wagon, i already posted the rest of these photos in a different thread
  16. For a few days ive been wondering whether this thread would be better off in the industrial section? and whether to split pages 12-14 from 1-11 or even delete them as its all now obscelete?
  17. After filling, cut away filler to free up the blades and then went round with black poster paint
  18. Do you whats naughty? People showing so many interesting wagon photos in this thread making me want to build them

  21. ive also got myself some coal, an overgrown canal path i use daily was cut back and resurfaced earlier this year, and a lot lumps came up during the digging, so went along and got a little plastic bag full which will last me for years
  22. Info board painted a while ago and now trying to fit the gap back scene, a curved board which will be cut away to silhouette of a treeline At the info board end a wedge was needed to fill a gap, which is not just tapered for the angle but the right hand side of it also twists to match the curve This end will hook on Today i decided how to fit it against the bridge, screwed on a rectangle of ply in the portal which the backscene just sits against.
