britannia70
Anyone help? How much amperage would a standing loco on a dcc layout be expected to draw? I have 20 loco standing locos either outside a 5 lane shed or on the fiddle yard. Control is by Gaugemaster prodigy .
WIMorrison
Do they have lights? Do they have sound? all have an effect on the potential current draw
britannia70
no lights no sound.
WIMorrison
Then next to no power when they are standing still

With a 'few' end lights on and none moving the current draw, according to the display on my NCE PowerCab, is 0.34amps. As @WIMorrison says, "... next to no power ...". If I have 4 trains in motion (and I have some quite severe gradients; 1in~45) pulling reasonable train lengths (7 or 8 coaches) the current draw hovers around the 1.0 to 1.1 amp range. Does this help? Ian

Does this help? Ian It would be a little higher in larger scales. But I agree the current draw in stationary locos without lights or sound would be negligible.
