coombe junction - moorswater - fade to grey...

Update,

Finally got around to finishing the basic roof on the old dries building last night. When I looked further at the construction, I realised it was the same as the lower panels, and that the shadow was infact concealing small purlins which aligned with the lower ones...so a bit more tedium  I have also lined the rooflight openings ready to receive some glass panels which will be added after the painting/weathering commences.

When I placed the final piece of the roof in place I realised that it was a little untrue in places...but after a while, I quite liked it as the unevenness is a characteristic of the old dries building (wonky freight lines and old buildings seem to suit my modelling :D)

The obligatory misting of grey primer to reveal all the errors and areas that need a bit of attention swifly followed.

The next mission...is the inset track...so I had better do a little retesting first before it all gets covered up.

From below...you won't get this view from the layout though...

One man on a lonely platform...Ah...we fade to grey, fade to grey...

"...Wishing life wouldn't be so dull..." - this certainly isn't dull (OK well the colour might be :P ) but the detail and the lessons in construction are most fascinating.

It could be said to present a most captivating Visage...

Keep the updates flowing, and I fully agree with your choices of inspirational music ;)

Steve - Thanks - I didn't realise you were a poet too :P On a sort of roll at present so a few more updates are on the horizon...

Jamie - Thanks also...hmmm....I am a bit scared about the painting/weathering...they might remain in car primer for some time yet...bit like those replacement front wings that you used to see on Ford Capris etc which never seemed to get sprayed to match the rest of the car...

Jon - Thanks too - I am overall happy with the way the buildings are going...but there is a long way to go yet for it to capture the essence of a clay dries...talc is at the ready to disperse over all and sundry for the clay dust...as I said before, perhaps it could be the nicest smelling layout...and help combat the 'great unwashed' at an exhibition...

Kris - Thanks - You haven't been looking hard enough..slipped lintel second shot, ridge tiles delaminating... ;)

Superb modelling Pete. The juxtaposition of old and new is so right for industrial sites. The music fits too.

"Two eyes staring cold and silent" - but i still can't see the errors! :)

Great work as ever, Pete. Rooves can sometimes be a little dull to look at from above, but this one has so much character!

Thanks Don and Mikkel...

One man on a lonely platform is probably more fitting for Coombe Junction than Moorswater...

The model is looking good Pete. Not sure about the 80s lyrics though.

Have you decided how you are going to paint all those stones?

Thanks Andy - I guess I am the only one still living in the 80's then

Hmm...not sure about the stones...whilst I applaud the work done on your seawall, I think I will apply a base colour and then dry brush a mix of powders overall...

80s music is fine - they were my formative years but I think you need to be careful about what you might start.

Now St Ruth is set in the 60s... just off to find some Beatles or Rolling Stones lyrics for my next posting... or maybe some Woodstock era stuff...

Seeing as how my layout is set in the 80's it's very appropriate....

Last year I did post a blog titled 'coombe fly with me' as a tribute to Sinatra....Goodness me....I will be running kettles on this layout next :P
