milocomarty
What do you do on normal lazy Sunday, well I model a bit normal but not today. A real life spray job had to be finished. After 17.00 there was a bit of time left and I worked on a Belgian NMBS diesel reeks 55 for an article in a Belgian magazine. Still a work in progress. In the time in-between I tried to make a cardboard structure look like a concrete building. Laid my hands on some old Mig Production washes and had to try them..
RMweb Gold Mick Bonwick Posted April 24, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 24, 2017 Nicely done, as always, Martin. The concrete has just the right hint of green to it.
sb67
Wow! That concrete looks fab! Love to know how you did it. Steve.
milocomarty
Two 1:87 machines on the bench, the Dutch diesel is mainly weathered with Ammo oil brushers, the large PRR T1 steam engine has only Ammo acrylics. Earth on the lower frame and washable dust on the upper parts. Still works in progress.
RMweb Gold Mick Bonwick Posted June 12, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 12, 2017 The Oilbrusher work is particularly good, Martin. Nice effect.
jonas
Just going back to the yellow Belgian loco, how do you achieve such an exhaust stained roof? It looks fantastic.
milocomarty
Jonas, I chipped it with brush and sponge with acrylics, followed bij a light spray of nato black followed by several pigment, wich I set with odorless thinner until I'm happy.. Fooling around with a couple of pigments, fuel stains and rust washes, all Ammo by Mig products. 4
sb67
Fantastic stuff as usual Martin, when you say you 'fix the pigments using thinners' do you spray this over the pigments. Steve.
milocomarty
Yes I do, work the pigment in with a brush and fix them with thinner. But it depends a bit on what I want, most of the times I use the airbrush with low pressure, 12PSI, but also a brush dipped in thinner works fine, the capilarity of the pigments do the rest..Completely happy with pigmentfixer..but most of the time it adhears well enough with just thinner. milocomarty
Because the owner's gonna pick up his T1 this saturday I had a few things to finish. This machine has an incredible amount of details with I found should be brought forward. So I pinnated them all with a mixture of rain marks and African dust, Added more layers to the undercarriage and wheels, thin layers of flat black and old rust, a dark sludge wash, pinkish with the dust mix, black and brown pigments and a thin layer of acrylic earth. Around the smokestack and upper body the same mix of flat black and old rust followed by black pigment. All materials used from the Ammo box..

sb67
Stunning stuff! I'd love to pluck up the courage and weather a class 20 like that. Steve.

milocomarty
Sounds interesting, pretty neat prototypes here http://www.railalbum.co.uk/diesel-electric-locomotives/br-class-20-1.htm Would love to do one and combine it with an article for the mag. milocomarty
The question I asked if I could do some light car weathering with 2 colors of paint. Think thats possible. Only used W&N raw umber and burned umber oil paints in very light layers. The Rio Grande is my test piece.
RMweb Gold Mick Bonwick Posted July 18, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 18, 2017 From very subtle to very dirty. Nice effects, Martin. Were you able to use the same colours effectively on the underframes?
sb67
Just 2 colours, no airbrush! Wow! Steve.
milocomarty
The Rio Grande has a couple of colors more. As I said it's my test piece.. Underframe is done with an airbrush and just one color. I like the Ammo tracks primer a lot for that. Has this nice brown bit greyish color.
milocomarty
Still fooling around with just 2 colors oil paint, speckle, blend and streak...pure fun !!

Ross34
Thanks ! Just try to translate militairy techniques to railroad models.. Excellent effects - I think railway modellers can learn a lot from the military modelling community I have a sub to this magazine which I find very useful.. http://www.migjimenez.com/en/35-the-weathering-magazine-publications You can download a free taster here.. http://www.migjimenez.com/en/content/9-the-weathering-magazine-specials
