Gordon A
Having had a busy Scaleforum talking to various prople I had a few days off to spend the weekend with Millie my Land Rover and friends in the Devils Bridge area green laning. Having got back safely I settled down to working on the Peckett chassis only to find in my rush to build it for S4um I managed to build it out of square!! Grrrrr. I spent a few days taking the chassis to pieces, cleaning up and reassembling. I am now happy to report the chassis, gearbox and motor have been reassembled and are now running nicely on my rolling road. Hopefully the next post will show connecting rod, cylinders and crosshead fitted. Gordon A Edited October 24, 2018 by Gordon A
Down_Under
Keep up the good work Gordon. Chassis looking like the business and thanks for the updates. J Ps nice series 2. I'm currently in the mist of restoring my 59 series 2 shortie. So big thumbs up from me Edited November 7, 2018 by Down_Under
Norton961
Gordon, any news on the production version of the chassis kit? Enjoyed having a chat at Scaleforum. David
Gordon A
The chassis is still progressing. I had a set back with a dodgy front axle plus a cold bug giving me gip for the last week or so. Currently working on fitting the brakes to the chassis so should have some pictures say a week to ten days after the Portsmouth show this Saturday. I have currently 24 pages of pencilled assembly notes. Gordon A
Gordon A
A few more pictures. I have fitted the connecting rod, cylinders and crosshead. I have been spending time finding the odd thou clearance behind the cross head. All appears to be ok. Pictures of the brake hangars and rigging. The first two pictures show the brake hangars and rodding. The wire pull rods do not have any set position, which means you can take into account what type of pickups you use when fitting them. Cranks on the brake cross shaft are provided for the hand brake, behind the driver and the steam brake vertically mounted under the fireman's side. I have not bothered with a casting for the cylinder as it is out of sight. Just to prove that the brake hangars and pull rods are designed to be removable. Gordon A
At last the completed chassis. The motor is a Mashima 1220, which requires 3mm lopping off the shaft pointing to the front of the loco. I hope to post some pictures tomorrow of the chassis fitted to the body. PenrithBeacon
What did you do to the front crank pins to get a clearance?
Gordon A
I filed the bearing to less than 0.45mm, the thickness of the front end of the coupling rod. I then filed the boss part of the retaining nut ti match the diameter of bearing, then filed the height of the boss down so the gap between the two flanges was just a smidgin over 0.5mm. There is only 26mm between the slide bars. The clearance behind the cross head is miniscule. Gordon A Edited November 24, 2018 by Gordon A

Mike Edge has described a method using Markits crankpins elsewhere on RMweb, I think I’ll have to experiment first with both methods but I’m still in for two of these when you are ready to sell them. Gordon A
It fits! Left and right hand views. And a shot of the underside showing how tight the clearances are: I am planning to come to Warley show tomorrow and will, if they will host Dodo leave it on the Scalefour Society stand. Just the instructions and costings to do! Gordon A

DougN
Just stop that... I have a thing for small locos in P4.... let alone a excuse for a pea green peckett... no must resist!
PenrithBeacon
I notice the kit comes with a new underside for the boiler. Does anyone know of a rattle can match for Dodo's green and the MSC blue?

Norton961
Gordon, excellent work, which High Level gearbox have you used? Love how delicate the rods are. David
Gordon A
Polybear - Will the etches be suitable for 00 also, by any chance? After some consideration early on and not hearing any complaints of bad running I decided just to provide EM and P4 spacers. As such I am not sure the bottom of the firebox / ashpan you can see through the frame cut out would fit in 00 frames. Norton961 - ……..which High Level gearbox have you used? It is the Road Runner + which has had to have a 3mm x 3mm piece removed. Gordon A PS I don't know how I have managed to change the font colour or how to change it back!
