steve1
Yep that all folks! Initially conceived as a replacement for our EM gauge shipyard layout 'Walker Marine' and our first foray into 7mm scale. 'Hospital Gates' as we eventually named it - 'Asylum' was an early idea for a name - was heavily influenced by the Whittingham Hospital line - though elements from other sites were also worked into the overall design and scenic finish. The layout can be seen at both the Wigan and The Great Electric Train Shows in early October and then we will be shutting the Gates on Hospital in favour of new projects. It is still as popular as ever with modellers and public alike but as we have no future plans for the layout and are willing will entertain serious offers for the layout (with or without stock) should someone want to take it on after its final show commitments with us. We are hoping that a kindly home with someone who is happy to progress with it over the years as we have (look at pictures taken over the years to see how details changed), can be found for it. As it has plenty of life in it for show use or could form the basis of a superb home layout. Hospital Gates is 19ft long by 2ft 6 inches wide (14ft scenic with a 5ft fiddle-yard) - Think down the side of your average garage sort of length. The layout consists 4 baseboards - 2 at 5ft and 2 at 4ft 6ins. Its predecessor our EM gauge shipyard layout 'Walker Marine' found such a home in Oceanside California. So given that who knows where it could end up. steve (on behalf of ERFG) Edited September 12, 2018 by steve1

RMweb Premium Dava Posted September 11, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 11, 2018 Let's just remember what a superb layout Hospital Gates is, and what an inspiration it's been for the past few years for 7mm scale period light railways, breaking new ground for the level of detail, much of which you may not see. Sadly I don't have room for it. 'Nuts about Hospital Gates' Dava

steve1
If the length of the layout is your only issue in considering taking on the layout we can let you into a secret. We didn't have a 19ft length available to us either when we first built the layout - hence the fiddle yard was design so that we could use it in a different format for home use which in effect shortened the layout by 2ft 6 inches (making a 17ft 6 inches by 5ft L shape). We did remove this feature but it can be easily reinstalled. Note also that the layout is being sold ready to go and complete with its lighting system, it current controllers and its transport and storage covers. Should anyone want a ready to go 7mm exhibition layout. steve
Earl of Pembroke
Oh no! I've been travelling and have just read the news about Hospital Gates. This layout is a classic, a definite goto attraction and it will be a great shame if the new owner takes it off the exhibition circuit. D9016
Definitely interested. Can you please advise height of boards, whether legs integrated or detachable, DC or DCC and finally whether control panel can be located at the front? Thank You. 3rd Rail Pete
Hospital Gates is now in its new home down south and sill definitely be back on the exhibition circuit in the near future. It will get a few minor alterations and a completely new set of locomotives and rolling stock. More details will be added soon.
